Dear ACLU Staff,
I am writing to express my strong interest in the internship opportunity at the American Civil
Liberties Union (ACLU) listed on your website. As an enthusiastic advocate for civil liberties, I am
eager to contribute my passion for social justice and commitment to constitutional rights through
an internship with the ACLU.
I am currently a graduating senior studying Political Science at Howard University in D.C.
Throughout my academic journey, I have actively pursued courses and research projects focused on
urban planning, research and analysis and economics. I have also recently gotten the chance to attend
the American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy's “Industry Summer Study” which focused
on decarbonizing the manufacturing world. My academic background has provided me with a strong
theoretical foundation, but I am eager to gain practical experience and hands-on insights into how I
can use my experience in a legal setting.
During my academic tenure I interned at Growth Opportunity Partners, a community development
financial institution in Cleveland, OH where I was tasked with researching the lack of affordable
solar and wind options for low-income and middle-class residents of Cleveland along with talking to
lawmakers about implementing Cleveland's Climate Report. During my junior year and summer, I
interned at BGS (Boston Government Services), an engineering, technology, and security firm
where I worked directly with the Solar division of the U.S. Department of Energy to help find holds
in communication with their community solar developers. I also presented research on renewable
energy barriers to entry for LMI communities in a policy white paper.
What particularly attracts me to the ACLU is its unwavering dedication to defending the rights of
all individuals, regardless of background or circumstance. The ACLU's work on issues such as
racial justice or reproductive rights aligns perfectly with my passion for social justice and equality..
Thank you for considering my application. I am enthusiastic about the possibility of contributing
to the ACLU's important work and gaining valuable experience as an intern. If you would like to
contact me further my email is micah.anglin@bsion.howard.edu and my number is 908-305-0424
Sincerely, Micah Anglin
6. Reflective Memo
To: Prof. John Harris III
From: Micah Anglin
Subject: Job Application Package Reflective Memo
Date: October 20, 2023
For the Job package I decide to follow the guidelines that were provided on campus as I
felt it flowed the most natural. I chose a internship that I had recently applied for and that was the
ACLU spring internship. It is a very completive internship and so I wanted to highlight my
biggest strengths and expiries in my cover letter and resume. I made sure to not only add my
experience for my resume but also the awards that I have won as long with my skill set.
I chose to flow from resume to my cover letter because my resume gives a sneak peak to
my experiences and then I the cover letter I get deeper into what I have done.
I choose classes that I have already taken that have directly correlate to the job
description. I feel the flow of my job application perfectly highlights my strengths and shows
why I would be a good applicant.
Thank you,
Micah Anglin
