Winderweedle, Haines, Ward & Woodman, P.A.
Winter Park, Fl, U.S.
Dear Winderweedle, Haines, Ward & Woodman, P.A. Hiring Team,
My name is Lea Johnson and I am a first-year law student at Florida A&M University College of Law, writing
for an invitation to an open house at the WHWW office in Winter Park. I learned about this program through
my University, and I was immediately interested in an opportunity where I would be able to connect with those
in the field and gain real life experience in litigation while working alongside attorneys. A lot of my interests
revolve around intersectional activism and advocating for marginalized identities, and I am excited to explore
how I can achieve my goals through litigation. I believe that working at WHWW as a legal intern would allow
me to continue my commitment to promoting equality in marginalized communities, and I am confident that
I could contribute to the work of WHWW while strengthening the skills that I will need to work towards
bridging the gap between social justice and litigation.
I received a Bachelor of Science in Sociology from Florida State University, where I had the opportunity to
engage in work related to diversity, inclusion, identity, and leadership. Through my work during undergrad, I
had the chance to work with those who were once wrongfully convicted, facilitate dialogues about DEI across
differences, and see how the legal and criminal justice system play a vital part in ensuring positive, sustainable,
and systemic change. Since then, I have been working diligently as a law student to continue refining and
enhancing my community through the legal system. So far, my studies have allowed me to gain an in-depth
understanding of the laws and regulations governing the legal profession, and I want to utilize those skills to
make a positive difference in the lives of marginalized people.
I am interested in a summer clerkship at your firm because I believe that by gaining exposure to different legal
issues and getting real work experience, I can advance my education and develop skills that I would not be able
3. to do solely in law school. In this position I believe that I can continue growing my advocacy skills and work
with different departments to address the social needs of vulnerable populations while also conducting legal
research, drafting memos, and learning about legal strategies as it relates to WHWW’s goals.
During my first semester of law school, I decided to focus on my studies before joining any organizations. That
being said, I have honed my communication, research, time management, organizational, and problem-solving
skills to corroborate that I can effectively represent the companies that we would be working with. In addition
to my academic qualifications, I bring a solid commitment to client service and professional ethics that will
enable me to be an asset to AbbVie. I am confident that I can learn and efficiently assist as a legal intern, and I
am eager to learn more through hands-on experience.
My resume highlights my educational, work, and leadership experience. I hope to network with you and I would
like to thank you in advance for your consideration! I look forward to discussing my qualifications with you
further.
Sincerely,
Lea Johnson
