drik
Form is observed, eye is the observer
Only things eyes can’t see are
themselves
Limit of our vision is not out there but
here

Tad drishyam drik tu
mānasam
That (eye) is observed, mind is the observer
Mind knows that eyes are open or closed
Knower is relatively unchanging, known is
changing

Drishyā dhī-vrittayah
sākshī
Mental activities are observed, witness is the
observer
All that is happening in our mind, we know it
You are not miserable or peaceful, you are
the knower of peace or suffering in your mind

Etad veditum icchāmi
jñānaḿ jñeyaḿ ca keśava
This body, O son of Kunti, is called the field,
and one who knows the body is called the
knower of the field.
