“Although human beings are incapable of talking about themselves with total
honesty, it is much harder to avoid the truth while pretending to be other people.
They often reveal much about themselves in a very straightforward way. I am
certain that I did. There is nothing that says more about its creator than the work
itself.” (Item 6)
Presenter - I read this quote and immediately thought of my favourite director,
Danny Boyle, and wondered, “what does his work say about him?” The quote
informed me that through their films form and context, we should be able to see the
director’s artistic creations, making them an Auteur, which then led me to my essay
title…
”In what ways can we consider Danny Boyle to be an Auteur?”
Presenter - In 1954 François Truffaut wrote an essay entitled ‘A Certain Tendency in
French Cinema’ in his essay he stated that filmis the greatest way for a director to
express his or her ideologies or personal ideas, and therefore should be regarded as
an ‘Auteur’ or ‘Author’ of film.
