2. The definition of Prejudice
Originally meant harm or injury caused to a person
resulting from a disregard for their rights; it is from Latin,
meaning "to judge beforehand.“

religion, etc.

3. How Prejudice Differ
from Discrimination
A prejudiced person may not act on their attitude.
Therefore, someone can be prejudice towards a certain
group but not discriminate against them.
Also, prejudice includes all three components of an attitude
(affective, behavioral and affective), whereas discrimination
just involves behavior.
4. Mrs. Carter prejudice towards Florence ability in becoming an actress
even though she do not even meet and know Florence personally.
It is when she tells Mama that even she, a quite well-known white
actress do not have anything to do in those six months.
So she thinks Florence, being a black woman will never do it.
She ask Mama to stop Florence before she will be completely unhappy.
Mrs. Carter: I’m an actress! A dramatic actress . . . I haven’t really worked
in six months . . . And I’m pretty well-known . . . And everyone knows
Jeff. I’d like to work. Of course, there are my committees, but you see,
they don’t need me. No really . . . Not even Jeff.
Mama: now that’s a shame.
Mrs. Carter Now your daughter . . . You must make her stop before she’s
completely unhappy. Make her stop!
(line 183-185)
5. Chosen Theme:
Faith
Florence has faith that she will succeed in becoming an
actress while everyone keep asking her to just give up
because a black woman will never have the opportunity to
be one.
Marge’s line:
“I know Florence is real bad off or she wouldn’t call us for
money. Make her come home. She ain’t gonna get rich up
there and we can’t afford to do for her”. (line 21)
