Sustainability and Green Management (triple bottom line) decisions in Operations.
Three components of the Triple Bottom Line (TBL) are people and community (social responsibility), planet (environmental sustainability) and profit (the bottom line). These three components are holding true today even with the current situation the world is dealing with the mass interruption of worldwide logistical efforts due to COVID 19. Bottom-line, profits have taking a back sea.

Sustainability and Green Management (triple bottom line)
decisions in Operations.
Three components of the Triple Bottom Line (TBL) are people
and community (social responsibility), planet (environmental
sustainability) and profit (the bottom line). These three
components are holding true today even with the current
situation the world is dealing with the mass interruption of
worldwide logistical efforts due to COVID 19. Bottom-line,
profits have taking a back seat to social and environmental
sustainability as the world is more focused on the survival of
community versus the overall profit of a business. This goes to
show you that money is not just the root of all evil but also the
thing that hinders creative thinking. The world has shown that
putting the community above greed can bring nations together
9. and provide a footprint for change. The world is coming
together creating a better way of living that will keep operations
from folding by solving logistical hindrances that have kept
businesses from achieving substantial profits. Today, the focus
is preventing another outbreak but we must not take our eyes off
the bigger picture of future sustainability. Following the
directions of discussion, I found that companies have not forgot
this even though is seem to be out-of-site. Researching the
article sited below, I found that Rolls-Royce has set an
ambitious goal of reaching net zero carbon footprint in their
production operations by 2050. Not losing focus on what is
beyond this pandemic is vital to the survival of our future
generations. I totally believe that we need to be diligent on
finding ways to let our children’s children sustain a world that
includes all three components of TBL. Rolls-Royce has set an
example by producing clear road maps to create pathways to
achieve aviation, shipping, rail, and power generation net zero
carbon emissions by their goal date.

The article that I picked this week is called The Long and Short
of Supply Chain Risk. This topic deals with the, differences
between manufacturing and service operations. Discussed
throughout the article is there decisions on whether they should
order in bulk or order on supply and demand. The major
difference between the two is tangibility of their output. Service
firms have various amounts of intangible services such as
training, consultancy, and even maintenance. Service firms also
10. do not hold inventory, they produce when the customer ask for
it. Manufacturing holds the stock on hand because they produce
in bulk. Also, there is this key statement that really brought
everything together for me in the article,” reduced risk in long,
complex supply chains when demand is steady and demand
forecasts are historically accurate. On the other hand, there is
significant risk when suppliers need to support markets where
demand is seasonal, variable and/or forecasts historically
contain excessive error. It just makes you see why business
have to make the decision to be a manufacturing or service
operation.
