3. Abstract :
Proper attendance management is crucial for the academic institutions to
disseminate and ensure quality education to every student. The paper presents a model of an
automated attendance system to alleviate the manual effort pf recording data eliminating The
chances of fraudulency. The model focuses on how face recognition incorporated with Radio
Frequency Identification (RFID) detect the authorized students and counts as they get in and out
from the class room. Smart Attendance System keeps the authentic record of every registered
student and eradicates greatly the traditional tedious task. More ever, this smart system keeps the
data of every student registered for a particular course in the attendance log and provides necessary
information according to the need. By recognizing the face of the individual and verified by RFID
simultaneously in our project, the limitations in the existing manual attendance system are mostly
eliminated.

4. Literature Survey:
Md. Sajid Akbar, Pronob Sarker, Ahmad Tamim Mansoor.,“ Face Recognition and RFID
Verified Attendance System”: For academic institutions to disseminate and assure quality
education to all students, proper attendance management. This study proposes the concept of
RFID based attendance system.
Lin Zhi-heng*, Li Yong-zhen , “Design and Implementation of Classroom Attendance
System Based on Video Face Recognition”, The importance of classroom attendance cannot
be overstated when it comes to classroom teaching. It is possible to successfully supervise
students who regularly attend class to ensure that they arrive on time and that the classroom
education is of a high standard.

5. Problem Statement:
The current method that institutions uses is the
faculty passes an attendance sheet or make roll calls and
mark the attendance of the students.
It disturbs the discipline of the class.
It should be frequently updated manually in the excel
sheet.
It is quite hectic and time-consuming process.
5
6. Existing System:
RFID(Radio Frequency Identification) Based recognition system:
The student needs to carry a RFID Card with them.
The system is capable of to connect to RS232 and record the
attendance to the saved data base
There are possibilities for the fraudulent access may occur.
Some are students may make use of other students ID to ensure
their presence when the particular student is absent.

Fingerprint Based recognition system:
Portable fingerprint device need to be configured with
the students fingerprint earlier.
During the lecture hours or before, the student needs to
record the fingerprint on the configured device to ensure
their attendance for the day.
7
Fig: Fingerprint Based recognition system.
8. Proposed System:
To capture the face of each student and simultaneously the RFID tag is readed and stored it in
the database for their attendance.
All the feature of the students' face needs to be detected.
There is no need for the teacher to manually take attendance in the class
The attendance database is updated for the respective student automatically.
8
9. Objective :
Detection of unique face image.
Detection of faces amongst other face characters as beard, spectacles etc.
Automated update in the attendance sheet without human intervention.
Reduce time loss as time is a very valuable resource.
Reduction of flaws done by the students, Employees etc..
9
10. Introduction :
Attendance is high important for both the schoolteacher and pupil of an educational
association. So, it's veritably important to keep record of the attendance. The problem arises
when we suppose about the traditional process of taking attendance in class room. Calling
name or roll number of the pupil for attendance isn't only a problem of time consumption but
also it needs energy. So, an automatic attendance system can break all above problems.

12. Hardware Tools:
Raspberry Pi is a series of small single-board
computers.
It is used in many areas, such as for monitoring
because of its low cost, modularity, and open
design.
It consists of HDMI and USB standards and
Raspberry Pi OS.
It consists of 1.5 GHz quad-core 64 bit processor. It
needs at least a 5-volt, 3-amp power supply.

The Arduino-uno is microcontroller which is
shown in Figure based board on the atmega328.
The board are equipped with set of digital and
analog input/output pins that may be interfaced
with various expansion boards or breadboard and
other circuits.
The boards feature serial communications
interfaces including USB (universal serial bus) on
some models which are also used for loading
programs from PCs.

The Raspberry Pi Camera Board is a custom designed
add-on module for Raspberry Pi hardware.
It attaches to Raspberry Pi hardware through a custom
CSI interface.
The sensor has 5 megapixel native resolution in still
capture mode.
In video mode it supports capture resolutions up to
1080p at 30 frames per second.

Organic light emitting diodes (devices) or OLEDs are
monolithic, solid-state devices.
Typically consist of a series of organic thin films
sandwiched between two thin-film conductive
electrodes.
OLEDs are emissive displays that do not require a
backlight and so are thinner and more efficient than
LCD displays.

An RFID or radio frequency identification
system consists of two main components, a tag
attached to the object to be identified, and a
reader that reads the tag.
It consists of a microchip that stores and
processes information.
The RC522 RFID reader module is designed
to create a 13.56MHz electromagnetic field
and communicate with RFID tags.

SD Card Module is a breakout board used for
SD card processes such as reading and writing
with a microcontroller.
The board is compatible with microcontroller
systems like Arduino.
A standard SD card can be directly inserted
into the board, but to use microSD cards.
17
SD Card module & Micro SD Card:

18. Software Tools :
Raspberry pi OS:
Raspberry Pi OS has a desktop environment.
It looks similar to many common desktops, such as macOS and Microsoft Windows.
We should use SD card (minimum 8 GB recommended) to store the OS.
18
19. Cont..
OpenCV Python:
OpenCV is a huge open-source library for computer vision, machine learning, and
image processing.
OpenCV supports a wide variety of programming languages like Python, C++, Java,
etc.
It can process images and videos to identify objects, faces, or even the handwriting of
a human.
It is integrated with various libraries, such as Numpy.
19
20. Cont..
Arduino IDE:
Arduino IDE (Integrated Development Environment) is the software for
Arduino.
It is a text editor like a notepad with different features.
It is used for writing code, compiling the code to check if any errors are
there and uploading the code to the Arduino.
It is a cross-platform software which is available for every Operating
System like Windows, Linux, macOS.
20
21. Advantages :
Proxy attendance can be caught.
Hard copy paper work of attendance sheets is reduced.
Data can be stored long time compared to attendance sheet.
Fully automated and human interaction is reduced.
Time loss is reduced.
21
22. Applications:
1. Used at the confidential areas such as military areas.
2. Used in the educational organizations , offices and hospitals.
3. Used where Real time data management is required.
4. It is used to monitor the prisoners.
5. It can provide access for only authorized persons only.
