Empty coke can, bunsen burner, water, a bowl, tongs.
What we do:
•Fill a large bowl with cold water.
•Add a tablespoon of water in the empty can.
•Heat the can until the water begins to boil.
•Then grasp the can using the tongs. Very quickly turn the
can upside down into the bowl of cold water. The can will
collapse instantly.
3. Explanation
• Normally, air pressure inside an open can is equals with
the pressure outside.
• When we heat the water inside the can, the water
vapor forces out the air of the can.
• Once the water vapor is cooled
and condensed, the air pressure
inside the can becomes much less
than the air pressure outside.
• The greater pressure outside the
can crushes it.
