Before we start preparing for the GRE, it is important to know all about GRE. May it be the
GRE structure, the questions types, or the scoring pattern, ensure that you understand the
rules of the game before you start to play.
And then have to play better than anyone else”
“You have to know the rules of the game.

countries.
Ÿ It is administered by the Educational Testing Service (ETS).
Ÿ The test measures verbal reasoning, quantitative reasoning, critical thinking, and

7. The unscored section, also called the experimental section, can be a verbal reasoning section with 20
questions to be solved in 30 minutes or it can be a quantitative reasoning section with 20 questions to
be solved in 35 minutes. ETS uses the experimental section to test new questions which can be used for
future tests.
After the AWA Section, 2 Quant Sections, 2 Verbal Sections, and 1 Experimental Section
can appear in any order. ETS won't allow you to identify the experimental section, and, at the same
time, the experimental section will not be counted towards the score. So, we have to treat all the
sections as scored ones. Alternatively, sometimes, you may have a declared research section towards
the end of the test; you can attempt or skip this section.
You do get some breaks ... there is a 10-minute break after the third section and 1-minute break after
every section. There is no break between the 2 essay tasks and you cannot exceed the designated
breaks.

8. Quantitative Reasoning Section – It's a piece of cake
Most of you will nd the Quant section to be much easier, as only high school level math is tested in this section. Believe me!
Engineering math, theorems, proofs, etc are not tested on GRE Quant. Basic concepts of Algebra, Arithmetic, and
Geometry are tested in this section. However, ETS makes the section harder by making the questions tricky with many trap
answers. Right strategies for pacing and accuracy will enable you to get a better score improvement and take a shot at that
perfect score,170!
Verbal Reasoning Section – The crux of the matter
Ÿ Reading comprehension
This section could be a challenging one in your GRE preparation.
Nearly half of the questions require you to read the passage and answer the questions based on the passage while
vocabulary plays a more signicant role in the other half of the questions. The most common questions from students who
prepare for the GRE is, “How many words should I learn?” and this question doesn't have a simple answer. Be not afraid!
There are multiple ways to learn and remember words.
Ÿ Text completion
Apart from scores, preparation for the GRE Verbal will denitely make a big difference in your use of the English language.
There are 3 type of questions in the GRE Verbal:
Ÿ Sentence equivalence
7
9. GRE Scoring Pattern – A different kettle of sh
Test-taking techniques and a few good habits would help test takers a lot to produce desired results.
For further updates on the test and how you would be tested, please visit our website
www.manyagroup.com or walk into any of our centers. Get a real-time experience of the test by taking a
full length mock test at one of our centers.
GRE has a totally a different scoring pattern compared to our school/college tests. GRE is a test that is
adaptive by section.
The rst section of Math/Verbal has a mix of easy, medium and hard questions. Based on the number of
right answers in the rst section, a student enters into a hard, medium, or easy section. To get a high
score, one should get into a harder section and answer the questions correctly.

10. CHOOSE THE RIGHT WAY
FOR YOUR PREPARATION
“Older and wiser voices can help you find the
right path if you are only willing to listen”
9
11. Ÿ There will be mind-boggling data interpretation questions.
Ÿ A quicksand, very often.
With all this said, the GRE is written only by professional test writers and not by superhuman
geniuses, so cracking the GRE shouldn't be a challenge. Making this possible would mean the
right practice in the right way with guidance from the experts who have been handling the GRE
for ages.
Ÿ Even if you miss reading one word in a math question, you may be trapped.
Every test preparation institution is unique in its own way. How would you choose the right
institution which extracts the best from you for you to be able to achieve maximum score
improvement and reach your dream score and University?
Whatever you arrive at as the answer that is not correct will be there in the list of answer choices:
The GRE is a different ball game when compared to the tests at schools/colleges. Our teachers
would have given us harder and devilish questions but never tricky ones. The GRE is purposefully
designed to be a tricky test.
The duration of the test by itself is one more factor that makes the test difcult.
10
12. GRE Study Material
Ÿ Easy ways to build vocabulary.
Manya-The Princeton Review offers you an adequate and excellent set of materials for GRE preparation that matches the
above-mentioned specications.
Ÿ Enough practice questions that are on par with the real GRE questions.
Ÿ The material should have the right techniques and strategies that apply for the GRE questions.
Ÿ The full-length practice tests should be aligned to the actual GRE – online tests that are adaptive by section.
Ÿ Over and above, the materials should be an updated one.
There are a lot of materials available for the GRE preparation, but the right material must have the following
characteristics:
