2. Hygiene
Wash hands! This is always a must, but it is even
more important when immune systems are susceptible,
like during the winter months.
Cover mouth. Always cover your mouth when
sneezing or coughing. Also consider a face mask if you
are sick and in public, this will help to reduce the spread
of illnesses.
3. Nutrition
H2O! Winter means dryer conditions, meaning it can be
easier to dehydrate.
Eat the rainbow. Consuming the needed amount of
vitamins and minerals will provide your body with the
resources it needs to maintain a strong immune system. It's
not just Vitamin C!
Note vitamins do not prevent colds, but
they may help reduce the duration. If
you already have a strong immune
system, fighting off colds is also easier.
4. Sleep
Get Your Zzzzz's.
While you are sleeping your
body reboots and refreshes
itself. If you aren't getting
enough sleep, your body can't
recharge. An uncharged body
can have a weakened immune
system and a higher
susceptibility to colds and flues.
5. Exercise
Maintain physical activity.
Even though it's cold out, exercise is
an important component in reducing
stress, weight maintenance, and
increasing immune function.
6. If You Do Get a Cold...
● Maintain hygiene practices to
prevent spread.
● Stay hydrated.
● Drink hot beverages to help
clear mucus and relieve sore
throats.
● Use a humidifier to help moisten
air and relieve cold symptoms.
● Always seek medical help if
concerned about illness.
