2. What it is?
Xochimilco is one of Mexico City’s most popular destinations, principally for the
miles of waterways that run through the centre of the barrio, which have led the
people to call it the Venice of Mexico.
In the waterways, there are floating gardens known as chinampas, that will make
a pretty unique experience while in the Mexican capital.
3. History
The floating gardens of Xochimilco have existed since Aztec times, but, the
waterways where the gardens flow are smaller now.
In 1987, the UNESCO recongized Xochimilco as a herritage site.
Actually, a lot of Mexican people go to this place every weekend, like if it was a
tradition. Many of the people that go say that it’s a way of relaxing and preparing
for next week.
