2. Paella is one of the most popular Spanish dishes.
It appeared in Valencia between the 15th and 16th centuries. Do
you know why? Farmers needed an easy meal to prepare with the
ingredients they had in the fields.
In its origins, the ingredients of the paella were birds, the rabbit of field
or hare, fresh vegetables, rice, saffron, and olive oil.
Nowadays, paella doesn´t have an exact recipe.
3. There´s a legend about the paella, which dates of the war of the
Independence, carried out by a French general and a woman who cooked the
paella. As the general was very impressed with the plate, they made a deal:
for every new paella dish, the general would release a Spanish prisoner.
According to the legend, she managed to free 176 prisoners.
