Erasmus+ My kitchen garden
1. 1. What is grown in the participating
countries…
2. My kitchen garden…
2. 1. Wild and Cultivated Plants in
Turkey
•Turkey has the richest flora on the temperate zone. The
wide variation in topography and climate, the fact that
Turkey is surrounded by four seas and the relatively late
development of industry and agriculture has resulted in an
phenomenal wealth of plant life within Turkey’s borders.
5. Wild and Cultivated Plants in
Croatia
•The Croatian flora is the third richest in Europe. This
extraordinary richness is a result of a number of favorable
circumstances. Croatia is situated on the boundary between
the continental and the Mediterranean climatic zones and
was less affected by the Ice Ages, so that many species have
survived as relict species.
8. Wild and Cultivated Plants in
Romania
• Almost half of Romania’s land area is covered with
natural and semi-natural landscapes, including one of the
largest remaining areas of undisturbed forest in the
continent. Romania’s success in preserving and enhancing
it’s natural environment is in part, thanks to the
traditional farming practices that are still being used in
much of the country.
11. Wild and Cultivated Plants in
Italy
The Italian peninsula has been inhabited by humans for a long
time resulting in many changes throughout the centuries. The
original vegetation were wiped out and replaced by crops.
Despite this apparent shortcoming, Italy has preserved its
appeal for visitors and sparkles with olive groves, vineyards
and natural parks.
14. Wild and Cultivated Plants in
Latvia
• There are more than 1600 species of flowering
plants and filicides in Latvia. The most typical
flora of the country is forests, meadows and
bogs.
17. 2. Now you’ll take a look to a Greek
kitchen garden
(some Autumn and Spring vegetables)
This is an eggplant that
many people plant in their
garden and it is the main
ingredient of our
traditional food,
moussaka.
18. This is a pepper plant which has red, green and orange
peppers.
20. Here, we can see a
cauliflower that has not
grown up yet.
21. In this picture we see a
farmer who takes care
of his little cabbage.
22. In the first picture we can see zucchini, while in the
second one, there are purple cabbage.
23. At last:
In our region, almost all inhabitants have their kitchen
garden. During spring and autumn they plant their
vegetables for the everyday salad.
Furthermore some of them make their small
greenhouse to grow vegetables under variable
weather circumstances.
