“To Choose or Not to Choose”
Abortion is a very disputable issue and not everyone agrees that the mother of a
child should be granted the decision to discontinue her pregnancy. I would never have
an abortion but that’s my opinion. The human life is a phenomena existence to our
universe. Many people feel that terminating a pregnancy in its early stages is murder
and inhumane. Abortion can be perceived in our society as ungodly or loss of fate. I can
understand that position because I am a God-fearing woman and believe there are no
mistakes through his mercy.
There are over 3,000 abortions a day.
Four out of ten women pregnancies
are ended in abortion. The Journal
of Law, Medicine indicates these
findings. The process of
abortions terminates the future
life of human existence within
the first trimester. Although the
child might not be fully matured,
it relies on the necessities of
food and water to survive. The
child develops their sense of
touch and eventually advances
to show signs of movement
during the second trimester.

2. pregnancy puts the mother’s life in jeopardy. Should the mother die with the child or
should she abort to save her own life? What about the many raped victims every 98
seconds assaulted, 90% being women, or how
about the age of 18-24 college women who are
more likely to be raped than other in public society,
according to Victims of Sexual Violence there is
valid information supporting their claims. Why
should anyone who has been victimized by a
horrific experience be forced to bare child? Many
doctors have seen the necessity of reason to abort
child under threatening health conditions,
underage/under-development, and rape
circumstances, taking from the USA Today publications on doctor’s opinions; they state
abortions are needed to save lives in terrible times. I believe there are certain
circumstances that justify having an abortion. Before passing judgement on abortions,
we should consider some different positions surrounding the topic.
Heather, 32 is from Tennessee. She already has two kids and is in a financial
situation. Although she comes from a religious background, she is a single mother and
feels like another child will put a financial strain on her current situation. She feels like
an abortion is the right thing to do now as she cannot afford to take care of another
child. It hurts her that she must do this but she feels it is the right thing for her since she
doesn’t have the means to provide. This is a
scenario where you have a single mother that wants
to do what she feels is the right thing. She is a few
weeks into her pregnancy and feels that this should
be her decision to have an abortion. Is she wrong?
From a pro-life position she may be, but who are we
to judge? Reading the article “My Abortion, by the
New York Times of politics, provided a personal
outlook in one’s choice. Shame motivates
abortions.
One out of three women have had an abortion in the United States. Most have
had an abortion during young ages based on the book Fisher, Brian E. Abortion: The
Ultimate Exploitation of Women. The idea of a child (teenager) raising a child is a
difficult task. It is a lifelong job that a parent continuously does. Many teenage girls feel
that they are not fit to be a mother and feel that if they do decide to keep their child, who
will help them. They begin to feel like they have no choice but to have an abortion.

3. children. Women don’t have to be pressured into making a decision they may later
regret.
I researched countless material on abortions, from both a pro-choice and pro-life
perspective, to find their most convincing arguments. I wanted to understand both sides
of the topic. It’s important to be open-minded when reading and discussing a touchy
issue. People’s lives, regarding the decision of abortion, is a sensitive subject. There is
no right or wrong answer. The essential conclusion; women should be allowed to do
what is suitable for themselves, everyone will have an opinion but the decision one must
choose is their ultimate right. I understand that we are given the choice of free will and
some women are faced with uncompromising situations; rape, poor health, and
homelessness. I believe in doctors and their practice to do what is safe and healthy for
everyone. I also understand and respect doctors as life changers and people doing
what’s right under certain circumstances. The one beautiful aspect of living in America
“the free world” is that we have many choices and don’t have to be scrutinize when
facing trying times. Abortion should remain legal under proper procedures and not be
used or abused as a method of birth control.
