- 3. Directions For Set-Up and Play: Print/copy the chrysalis/cocoon and caterpillars on cardstock. The butterflies can be printed/copied on either cardstock or regular printer paper. I chose to put the poem on the back of the caterpillar. You can do the same by choosing front/back printing You can also print the poem separately and staple/glue it to the chrysalis/cocoon. Print ether the color version or b&w for students to make it more personal. The chrysalis/cocoon can be rolled and taped as shown in the photo, or attached to a toilet paper holder. Bend the caterpillar in half (see photo) to make it easier for the children to push him through. Fold the butterfly as shown on the solid fold lines. Slide it into the chrysalis/cocoon so that when it ‘emerges’ it is right side up. You can choose to chart the poem and have the students ‘act it out’ with their interactive craft!
