4. The Arts Group came about from the many small conversations between
Sister Annabellai Gruenberg, a psychologist, biography worker,
counselor/life coach in private practice and Brother Bimboy Peneranda,
TSP Vice-President and a established poet and writer, on how to bring arts
into the Theosophical Society of the Philippines (TSP), upon learning that
there were significant TSP members who were artists in their own right.
5. One time later, Sister Bellai invited Brother Benny De la Cruz, who
is a natural poet, to a book launching of Rebecca T. Annonuevo, a
doctor in Literature at the De La Salle University. Bro. Benny was
moved by the experience, so they agreed to start the Arts Group
in TSP. With the consent of Bro. Bimboy, Sis. Bellai opened the
TSP Arts Study Group site at Facebook and assumed the role of
administrator together with Bro. Benny, Bro. Bimboy, Bro.
Andrew Navarro and Bro. Billy Candelaria taking into
consideration everyone’s availability and contacts.
To date, after barely three (3) months of existence, the site has 94
artists members.. .
7. The TSP Arts Study Group intends to provide a forum for sharing art
works , creative expressions in the arts (literary, visual , performing and
functional arts), its sources, potentials and the artists themselves.
This way , members can study , learn and experience different local
cultures and art forms from each country and understand how these are
used for healing, service, education and community building.
8. Moreover, the group sees arts as an alternative means to introduce
Theosophy and promote the Theosophical Society in an orthodox way
wherein everyone can easily relate to.
We believe that Arts transcend religious, social, political, geographical,
philosophical disparities; thus, the main motivation of this group is to
promote universal brotherhood and love among men by encouraging
the study of the various art forms: Poetry, Yogic Arts, Language Arts,
the Musical Arts, painting and sketches, videography, etc.
10. The planned activities of the TSP Arts Study Group are yet to be finalized in the
very near future and it would be premature to present it haphazardly. But for
the purpose of this presentation, the group brainstormed and have come up with
the following activities:
1. Postcard series of Nellie’s evening sky and chocolate hills series
(artwork with quotation or verses of a poem/song). To be displayed and sold
during the International Book Fair at SM Mall of Asia in September.
2. Articulation of the Sacred: the poetry of selected Boholano poets,
lecture and powerpoint presentation by Marj Evasco, poet and professor in
Creative Writing (De La Salle University) for scheduling in May.
3. Exhibit of artworks with accompanying poems (on display and to be recited
or chanted through recording), or songs (lyrics on display and to be sang.)
4. Martial Arts exhibition on Arnis (the dance and art) or Pangalay at Silat.
