The document analyzes and summarizes the music video in 9 screenshots. It shows a young boy who appears to have destructive powers and is alone. He is chased by police and surround before using his powers to repel them. The music video tells a story through these shots rather than featuring the artist. It conveys the theme of the song lyrics about being shot down but not falling and being bulletproof.
2. I’ve chosen to break down the music video
into 9 screen shots which I feel highlight the
main points throughout the video.
Genre- dance/pop
3. Here we see a long shot of a
young boy set in the centre
and all of his surroundings
destroyed, judging from the
papers and lockers we can
assume the location is a
school. The shot moves
backwards to reveal all the
damage which has been
done, the boy is alone,
suggesting he may have
caused the mess. The shot
also focus’s on him,
because of him being in the
centre of the door, the outer
walls appear larger as they
get closer to the camera.
4. The shot shows the boy
walking through the
corridor, however the focus
is drawn to the woman
hiding behind the door on
the phone who appears to
be scared of the boy, again
suggesting he caused the
damage. The actual
clearness and focus of the
shot is on the woman
who’s facial expression
appears frightened.
5. During this shot the camera
speeds up the boy riding on
the bike, creating the
illusion of him riding the
bike very fast as if he is
being chased. The camera
jump cuts repeatedly shows
different shots of the boy on
the bike, zoomed in on the
pedals, his hands on the
breaks and his facial
expressions. He is set again
in the centre of the shot
from behind, this shot also
gives a point of view feel as
though you were chasing
him.
6. Here we see a mid shot of the
room and the boy, he is
throwing his teddy bear back
behind him, suggesting he is
throwing away his childhood,
he knows he is being chased
and maybe knows its time he
needs to grow up. Beforehand
the shot cuts to the teddy
bear laying on the bed, then
jumps to a shot from behind
as the bear is thrown out the
way. The bedroom appears to
be very dull and cold, there is
also no family home
suggesting the boy wont miss
leaving home as he is used to
being alone.
7. This is the first time we see
the boy has superpowers, as
he attempts to escape
through his back door and
moves his keys by stretching
out his hand and
telepathically moving them.
The shot shows a mid-shot of
the keys physically lifting
from the kitchen bench,
breakfast from the same day
is still left out and is only set
for one, suggesting he is by
himself. The shot quickly
jumps to the police offers
who have broken in the house
as he escapes through the
back door.
8. Here we see both teddy
bears which he threw,
spinning around in the air,
the shot is shown mid-shot,
tilted upwards behind a
police offer, almost giving a
point of view effect of the
person behind. The teddy
bears spinning could also be
a way of him distracting the
police offers in order to run
away. Because of the shot
angle tilting upwards it also
suggests the boy has power
over the officers, he can
entrance them by moving
objects.
9. Here we see the sun setting
behind some trees whilst the
boy is running through some
vandalised pieces of large
rocks. The sun setting in the
background draws focus to
the boy, as it highlights the
back of his body. Everything
around him is also very still
suggesting he has run far
away from home. The camera
moves slowly to the right, the
same direction in which the
boy is running. By now we
can see the music video
doesn’t contain any footage
of the artists but instead tells
a story.
10. Shortly afterwards we see the
boy has been caught and is
surrounded by people with
guns, the headlights of two
cars focused on him. The
camera shows a long-shot
from behind one of the men,
The boy is again in the centre
of the shot, on all floors staring
down at the ground. This shot
also shows the views of society,
because the boy is different he
is being chased and everyone
is “finger pointing”, no matter
how hard he pedalled he
couldn't get away, and his
powers weren't strong enough
however they kept him safe.
11. The scene in the woods is
something highly expected
from thriller films, someone
running through the woods
with someone chasing them.
Here we see a long-shot of
the boy curled up in a ball
on the ground, instead of
fighting the people around
him he chooses to use his
power to repel them away
from him, the light becomes
bright enough to spread the
leaves into the air and knock
the officers of their feet, the
camera then fades out into a
plain black background.
Another view is that he was
so scared that he lit up and
killed himself because he
would rather take his own
life then to be killed by
others for being different.
12. Andrew Goodwin-
The music video is almost like a short film, The young boy is different
to everyone else and that’s looked down on in society. The lyrics do
link to the meaning of the song and video, however they do not tell
the story.
You shout it out
But I can't hear a word you say
I'm talking loud not saying much
I'm criticized
But all your bullets ricochet
Shoot me down, but I get up
I'm bulletproof, nothing to lose
Fire away, fire away Ricochet, you take your aim
Fire away, fire away
[Chorus:]
You shoot me down but I won't fall
I am titanium
You shoot me down but I won't fall
I am titanium
13. [Sia:]
You shout it out
But I can't hear a word you say
I'm talking loud not saying
much
I'm criticized
But all your bullets ricochet
Shoot me down, but I get up
I'm bulletproof, nothing to lose
Fire away, fire away
Ricochet, you take your aim
Fire away, fire away
[Chorus:]
You shoot me down but I won't
fall
I am titanium
You shoot me down but I won't
fall
I am titanium
[Sia:]
Cut me down
But it's you who'll have further
to fall
Ghost town and haunted love
Raise your voice, sticks and
stones may break my bones
I'm talking loud not saying
much
I'm bulletproof, nothing to lose
Fire away, fire away
Ricochet, you take your aim
Fire away, fire away
[Chorus:]
You shoot me down but I won't
fall
I am titanium
You shoot me down but I won't
fall
I am titanium
I am titanium
I am titanium
[Sia:]
Stone-hard, machine gun
Firing at the ones who run
Stone-hard as bulletproof
glass
[Chorus:]
You shoot me down but I won't
fall
I am titanium
You shoot me down but I won't
fall
I am titanium
You shoot me down but I won't
fall
I am titanium
You shoot me down but I won't
fall
I am titanium
I am titanium
14. The lyrics of the song do link to the meaning
of the music video “shoot me down, but I get
up” and “shoot me down, but I won’t fall, I am
titanium”, also linking to the common phrase
“ sticks and stones may break my bones”, The
young boy does not back down and is
stronger than all the officers combined.
