Professional Development Through Collaboration
Equinox 2010 Osaka is shaping up to be downright EXCITING. We’ve added cutting-
edge, live stream technology, and we’re bringing a number of excellent people together.
We’ll be collaborating with audience members, watching a fascinating discussion
between two stellar educators, and participating in a live international webinar in Europe –
all in one afternoon!
From 14:00 – 18:00 on Saturday, September 25 at the Osaka Christian center, in
downtown Osaka, we plan to offer an innovative, collaborative, thought-provoking,
energy-boosting event. We have an absolutely lovely intimate little theater thanks to the
graciousness of Osaka Jogakuin and the efforts of Steven Cornwell and Deryn Verity.
We also have the support of Osaka JALT, Nara JALT and Kobe JALT, whose members
are active and dedicated to their own teaching and professional development.
The afternoon begins with an audience discussion on “Defining our EFL Experience”
within four contexts: university, young learners, graduate schools/ESP and JSHS. Steve
Brown, Ann Mayeda, Steven Nishida and Steven Herder will facilitate these
discussions. We can share common elements within our EFL experiences with each other
and with our headliners, Scott Thornbury and Paul Nation.
Audience members will have a chance to write questions for the main event in which
Scott will finally get to do the interview with Paul that he has long wanted to do. There’s
nothing like actually being at a live event like this, but for fans in other cities and
internationally, we offer a live streaming of the interview through our MASH
Collaboration website.
At 17:00, we have a bonus for all. Scott Thornbury will give a very popular presentation,
“The Secret History of Methods” as a plenary address for a live webinar at a number of
British Council schools throughout Spain.
Following the event, a number of us will head out for drinks, dinner and more discussion!
