2. Initial plans and proposals
What kind of advert are you going to produce?
My advert will be a promotional advert for The Beacon School Sixth Form as I will be showing off the good aspects of the Sixth Form as a persuasive method
toward Year 10‘s, Year 11’s and their parents. I am hoping that my advert will persuade them to come to the Sixth Form or to want their kids to come.
What will be the purpose of the advert?
The purpose of my advert is to show The Beacon Sixth Form as a creative, interesting and enjoyable place to be. Also to show off their wide array of departments,
this will therefore go to a wider target audience as it will cover a lot of different subjects able to be taken. My main purpose is to sell the idea of coming to the
Sixth Form to Year 10’s, Years 11’s and their parents.
How will the advert meet the needs of the college?
My advert will meet the needs of the college as it will show The Beacon Schools high standards of education and facilities.
What are its unique selling propositions?
The unique selling propositions for The Beacon School Sixth Form:
- The Sixth Form has it’s own area of high-tech computers and desks for the students to use.
- The arts department is very colorful and creative.
- In the Sixth Form there is a bistro for Sixth Form students only.
- The Media department have Apple Macs and Mini Macs.
Is to just inform or to educate/entertain/challenge as well?
My advert will not only be to inform, my aim is also to educate, challenge and entertain. This is because i believe people will be more interested if I have a
mixture of fun and serious activities and facilities that go on in Sixth Form.
Is to communicate particular information to the viewer? What type?
With my advert I am trying to communicate all of the facilities, subjects to be taken and sixth from in general to the viewer.
Will it promote in a different way to existing college adverts? How?
My advert will be promoted in a different way to Hurtwood House as it will show the very wide range of subjects able to take at The Beacon School Sixth Form. It
will also show you round the Sixth Form itself and focus on the USPs of the newly designed Sixth Form centre, such as the high-tech new seating, computers,
sofas and the bistro for Sixth Form students only.

3. Identification of message
I want to get across that no students get left behind. They are committed to providing excellent education for all students. Each student is valued by the school and
their learning is made enjoyable. Also that success of students is celebrated and responsibility is shared which ables all students to grow into questioning
responsible citizens who play an active part of society.
I also want to get across the schools Behavior and Discipline, there are high expectations of all The Beacon Schools students, these expectations of the students are
embodied in the schools achievement culture and behavior policy. The Beacon School have a graduated system of rewards to notice students achievements. These
are things such as :
- School prizes and awards
- Letters to parents
- Vivo miles
- Star of the Week
- Roles of responsibility
- Certificates of Achievement
- Postcards sent home
Second bullet point : Arrange an interview
Question him/her about what they think should be the message got across by a promotional advert for the Sixth Form.

5. form and style
Describe and justify the form and style of the advert
My advert will be part documentary and corporate. It will also be humourous and fun. I will achieve this by involving large groups of students and teachers in
my advert. It will be a stand alone advert as i will not be making a series. The overt message of my advert will be that The Beacon School is a school enjoyed
by many. The actors in my advert will be students and teachers, the students will be wearing their own smart clothes as they are Sixth Form students and
therefore wear their own clothing. The teachers will also be wearing smart clothes. Lighting will be bright because it will give off a happy vibe, whereas if it
was dark and gloomy it would not be as enjoyable to watch. I will be using a different range of shots in my advert such as:
- Long shot
- Close up
- Extra long shot
- Medium shot
