WHY SHOULD SEMANTICS BE CONSIDERED AS PART OF GRAMMAR?
Because commonly it is thought that gramar is structure and semantics analysis only appy
to words, but semantics applies also for phrases and sentences.
Initialy semantixs is no considered part of gramar but there are some considerations that
explain that gramar is not only the structure as I said before.
Words have certain meanings
Gramar describes what a fluent speaker knows of the language.so it is a part of
gramar because semantics and gramar are part of the linguistic competence, and a
person who knows structure and meanings has a good linguistic competence.
LITERAL AND SPEAKERS MEANING
It is raining cats and dogs
In the linguistic meaning this sentence mean that reallly it’s reaning cats and dogs;
that cats and dogs are falling down. BUT
In the speaker meaning or literal use. This Word mean that it is raining a lot.
