 Once
  there
  was
  a
  li'le
  red
  hen.

She
  lived
  with
  her
  friends
  the
  dog

Max
  and
  the
  horse
  named
  Scout.

They
  also
  lived
  with
  a
  sheep
  named

Shawn
  and
  the
  pig
  named
  Oinkers.

  One
  day
  Li'le
  Red
  Hen
  was

walking
  in
  the
  field,
  when
  she

stumbled
  upon
  some
  wheat
  seeds.

Li'le
  Red
  Hen
  had
  an
  idea.
  ”
  I
  could

plant
  these
  seeds
  and
  make
  bread!”

she
  clucked.
  So
  she
  went
  home
  and

did
  just
  that.

 “Who
  will
  help
  me
  plant
  this

wheat?”,
  asked
  Li'le
  Red
  Hen

  “I’m
  busy
  with
  a
  bone.”
  barked

Max.

  “I
  am
  pracOcing
  my
  galloping”,

neighed
  Scout.

  “I
  am
  grazing”,
  baaed
  Shawn.

  “EaOng”,
  snorted
  Oinkers
  with

a
  mouthful
  of
  slop.

  “If
  you
  want
  to
  be
  lazy
  then
  I

will
  plant
  the
  seeds”,
  mumbled

Li'le
  Red
  Hen.

So
  she
  did.

  She
  planted
  those
  seeds

and
  watered
  them.

  She
  watered
  the

seeds
  for
  a
  month
  unOl
  harvest.

  “Who
  will
  help
  me
  harvest
  the

wheat?”
  Li'le
  Red
  Hen
  asked.

  “I
  won’t”,
  said
  lazy
  Max.

  “I
  won’t”,
  said
  sleepy
  Scout

  “I
  won’t”,
  said
  yawning
  Shawn.

  “Honk-‐shu”,
  said
  sleeping
  Oinkers.

  “ Then
  I
  will!”
  announced
  Li'le
  Red

Hen.

  So
  she
  got
  to
  work.
  By
  sundown
  she

had
  a
  beauOful
  crop
  in
  bundles
  ready

to
  be
  taken
  to
  the
  mill.

  The
  next
  morning
  Li'le
  Red
  Hen
  got

up
  early.

  She
  asked
  Max,
  ”
  Will
  you

come
  with
  me
  to
  the
  mill
  to
  grind
  the

wheat.”

  Max
  explained
  ,”
  I
  do
  not
  have

Ome
  for
  this
  silly
  nonsense.

  I
  have

squirrels
  to
  chase.”

  “
  I
  have
  galloping
  to
  do,”
  admi'ed

Scout.

  “
  I
  have
  grazing
  to
  do
  ,”
  noted

Shawn.

  “
  I
  have
  to
  be
  in
  the
  cherry

orchard.

  There
  is
  free
  cherry

picking!”
  oinked
  Oinkers.

  “Well
  if
  you
  have
  other
  things
  to

do,”
  said
  Li'le
  Red
  Hen
  hotly.

 So
  she
  brought
  the
  wheat
  to

the
  mill
  to
  and
  got
  it
  ground
  into

flour.

  She
  made
  it
  home
  by
  the

aUernoon.

  “
  Who
  will
  help
  me

cook
  some
  bread?”

  “
  I
  won’t,”
  said
  Max

  “
  I
  won’t,”
  said
  Scout

  “
  I
  won’t,”
  said
  Shawn

And
  the
  only
  sound
  of
  Oinkers

was
  a
  faint
  oink
  in
  the
  distance.

  “Ok,
  I
  guess
  I’ll
  do
  it
  myself,”

sighed
  Li'le
  Red
  Hen.

  Soon
  the
  kitchen
  smelled

heavenly.

  Max
  smelled
  the
  bread

first
  and
  sat
  by
  the
  window

smelling
  the
  delicious
  bread.

Scout
  smelled
  the
  bread
  next

and
  stood
  by
  the
  window
  with

Max.

  Shawn
  smelled
  the
  bread

and
  came
  to
  the
  window
  with

the
  friends.

  Oinkers
  smelled
  the

bread
  and
  came
  running
  toward

the
  window.

  The
  bread
  was
  ready.

  Li'le

Red
  Hen
  brought
  the
  bread
  out.

“
  Who
  will
  help
  me
  eat
  this

bread?”,
  asked
  Li'le
  Red
  Hen.

  “
  I
  will!”,
  shouted
  Max

  “
  I
  will!”,
  shouted
  Scout

  “
  I
  will!”,
  shouted
  Shawn

  “
  I
  will!”,
  shouted
  Oinkers.

“
  Well,
  too
  bad!”,
  snapped
  Li'le

Red
  Hen.

  “
  You
  never
  helped
  me.

So,
  too
  bad.”

  And
  she
  gobbled
  that

up.
