Ocean.Hawaii isthe onlyU.S. state not locatedinthe Americas.The state doesnotobserve daylight
savingtime.
The state encompassesnearlythe entire volcanicHawaiianarchipelago,whichcompriseshundredsof
islandsspreadover1,500 miles(2,400 km).Atthe southeasternendof the archipelago,the eightmain
islandsare—inorderfromnorthwesttosoutheast:Niʻihau,Kauaʻi,Oʻahu,Molokaʻi,Lānaʻi,Kahoʻolawe,
Maui and the Islandof Hawaiʻi.The lastisthe largestislandinthe group;itis oftencalledthe "Big
Island"or "Hawaiʻi Island"toavoidconfusionwiththe state orarchipelago.The archipelagois
physiographicallyandethnologicallypartof the Polynesiansubregionof Oceania.
