math and the drama.
• The Math: low fat, low carb, macros,
keto, points, calories in/calories out, etc.
etc. etc.
• The drama = mindset.
Most programs only focus on the math
and then convince you the failure is your

5. Crafting for Weight Loss
LisaDuke.net
Crafting can be a tool we use to deal
with the drama.
6. Crafting for Weight Loss
LisaDuke.net
If we are overweight it’s often because we are
also eating extra food for non-fuel reasons.
Reasons like:
• To reduce stress
• To feel better emotionally
• Because we are bored or restless
• Out of habit
Once we realize this is what we are doing,
crafting can often be used to address some of
these issues instead of food. Even swapping
some of the time can make a difference.
7. Stress Reduction
LisaDuke.net
Our lives are stressful!
We are often pulled in multiple directions,
caring for kids/pets/partners/parents in our free
time in addition to clients/coworkers/bosses at
work.
Humans need some way to regulate our
nervous systems, to slow down, and to take
time for self-care.
We often use food for this, but we could use
hobbies and/or practices instead.
8. Emotional Eating
LisaDuke.net
Are you an emotional eater?
• Need to celebrate? Eat!
• Feeling bad? Eat!
Often we are consciously or unconsciously
using food to regulate our emotions and
nervous system.
Instead, take time for yourself and work on
your project!
9. Feel Better Emotionally
LisaDuke.net
Shame and excess weight are very
connected.
If we have childhood experiences of
shame, we often subconsciously
hold onto that, which makes us feel
bad.
Then we use food to feel better.
Instead, find a passion or a practice
that sparks joy.
10. Bored/Restless
LisaDuke.net
If what your family has picked to watch on
TV or what your boss has given you to do is
not doing it for you, we often turn to food.
Since eating is essential to life, it may be the
only break/pleasure/fun we feel we are
allowed.
Instead, we can do crafts during that time.
Examples – book folding, knitting,
crocheting
11. Doing Everything – No Results
LisaDuke.net
Some women who do eat healthily and get
a good amount of movement and just are
not shifting the weight.
For many women, this is hormonal, and
cortisol, a stress hormone, is often a culprit.
We need to reduce stress for our body to let
the weight go.
12. How to Break the Habit?
LisaDuke.net
You may also be eating as a habit.
If you notice yourself eating, ask:
• Am I hungry?
• Why am I eating?
• How do I feel?
• Is there a non-food solution or option?
Just that level of awareness may be enough
to help you shift.
14. Crafting for Weight Loss
LisaDuke.net
Use crafting:
• To improve your mood
• To shift out of shame by increasing
pride
• To reduce stress
• To relieve your boredom
• To play with when you are restless
• To keep your hands busy
• In place of an eating habit
• To take time for yourself
• To slow down and self-regulate
• To reset
• To create tools, like the urge jar
Even grownups need time to play.
15. Are You Doing All This Already?
LisaDuke.net
Try my ACE Weight Loss Methodology.
• A – awareness – what are the thoughts,
feelings, and habits driving my overeating?
• C – clearing – once the thoughts, feelings, and
habits causing the problem are identified,
learn the skills and get the support you need
to clear them out of the way.
• Energy & Education – the perfect combination
of left and right brain approaches to deal with
the issue.
