A Radical Analysis And Argument On The Issue Of Lgbtq...
Within this essay, the main focus will be to improve a radical analysis and argument in relation to the topic of LGBTQ rights movements. Injustice has
developed during the centuries to be a main problem around the world, especially in the United States. There are many different issues that injustice
addresses. In order to form this, this essay will discuss the history of LGBTQ rights movements since early 1920s. In reference to the position
supporting LGBTQ rights movements, the discussion will concentrate on; discrimination and injustice and respect on people's rights. The word
"LGBTQ" stands for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (and/or questioning) individuals/identities. There have been organizations try to call

and a developing gay culture in the United States. According what Gerber had experienced in his country, he decided to found an organization to
protect the LGBTQ rights. With some of his friends, Gerber founded an organization which is known as The Society for Human Rights, a nonprofit
association in Illinois. Chicago 's LGBTQ media have firm and deep roots and an old history (Thies). This Organization's goals were to protest police
harassment, the US military 's treatment of gay people, and the disease model of homosexuality all over the nation. For example, Illinois became the
first state in the U.S. to decriminalize homosexual acts between consenting adults in private in 1962. The Society for Human Rights published a
newspaper, "Friendship and Freedom", which was given away to its tiny membership (Harrington). The society could only publish two issues of its
newsletter, which financed mostly out of its founder's pocket; in 1925 the police attacked Gerber 's house and arrested all members of this small

Spanish American War Analysis
Throughout history, American perception of the causes of the Spanish–American War of 1898 has shifted drastically. As new facts and first
–hand
accounts come to light in the years following its events, historians have more information to make assessments, and as a result there are clear
differences in the writings of three historians in three different points of time. Shortly after the events of the Spanish–American War, the blame of the
war was mostly placed on the Cubans, with a focus on military strategy. The textbook, An American History, published in 1911, references aUnited
States that was fixated on the military angle of relations with Spain and Cuba. According to the author of An American History, David Saville Musey,

In the time between the publishing of An American History and 1942, American perception of the Spanish–American War became increasingly
emotional. The authors of America: The Story of a Free People, citing "In the fall of 1896, Weyler turned certain towns and cities into concentration
areas, driving women, children, and old men within stockaded quarters where they perished like flies." The author later goes on to describe the
horrible conditions over 100,000 Cuban citizens were forced to endure, an experience roughly half would survive. At the same time, the United States'
involvement is justified through the securitization of American ideals in defenseless territories. United States citizens at the time used words that
conveyed negative beliefs about the Spanish people, going as far as to call Dupuy de Lome, a Spanish minister exposed to have published a letter
slandering President McKinley, "stupid". Historians in the 1940's believed that the emotional response to Spain's brutality was the motivation of the
United States to enter the Spanish–American

Howard Zinn 's The United States
Howard Zinn 's A People 's History of the United States has been highly influential since its initial publication in 1980. It spawned adaptations for
young readers (a two–volume adaptation by Rebecca Stefoff: A Young People 's History of the United States) and The People Speak, a History
Channel documentary based on Zinn 's work. Zinn himself was until his death in 2010 a heroic figure to many, especially for this book and for his
ongoing teaching and social activism, which were directly related.
A People 's History of the United States was praised from the moment it appeared on shelves. A 1980 Library Journal review called it "brilliant and
moving" and said it was well–designed to appeal to both historians and general readers. However, the volume was not without its criticisms. Some of
these critiques align with party lines. Roger Kimball 's review in the conservative National Review labeled Zinn a "Professor of contempt" and
dismissed the work as the ultimate in "anti–American history," a patchwork of leftist clichГ©s. Oscar Handlin 's review for The American Scholar
dismissed both Zinn 's approach to history and the actual content of the work, citing a number of Zinn 's claims as fallacious.
Some criticisms of the work carried more intellectual weight and addressed the quality of Zinn 's reasoning directly. Bruce Kuklick 's review of the
book for The Nation suggested that A People 's History of the United States was essentially a textbook for the left, and as such it

Patriot's vs. People's Howard Zinn's, Peoples' History of the US and Larry Schweikart's, Patriots' History of the US are two analytical views on
history that most people would consider politically conflicting. Zinn's Marxist book was widely praised by liberal activist and Schweikart's book
is greatly publicized by conservatives like Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck. These two widely known historians turned their focus on writing two
historical pieces that would fill in the "historical holes" that weren't being taught in the educational systems. It created a type of diverse learning
that made for a great argument while still allowing the readers to understand all sides of the topics at hand. Zinn really dismissed the common
"white mans history" and focused his approach on a multiple minority perspective. Schweikart's book is very different in the sense he takes aim at
Zinn as he targets words like "great discovery" and "war on terror" which Zinn only used as scare quotes. Schweikart's book really reads like old
history textbooks from the moral principals of the American founders that built this nation to the ideological view of American prosperity. No matter
who shares the views of the political perspectives or condemns them because of its bias stances both historians felt responsible in writing the history of
the United States.
Zinn did not believe in an unbiased approach to history

Federal Judiciary Act Of 1789 Analysis
This paper identifies, discusses and analyzes the Federal Judiciary Act of 1789. This paper addresses the historical context and the public need for
the Federal Judiciary Act of 1789 (the "Act"). The paper then describes the major components of the Act and the policy issues the Act attempted to
address at the time of its enactment. Finally, this paper evaluates the Act's impact on the American justice system over the past almost two and a half
centuries. This is an unbiased paper written with the sole intent to research and report on the Federal Judiciary Act of 1789. Keywords: Judiciary

Act of 1789 Public Need A compelling public need existed with respect to the passage of the Federal Judiciary Act of 1989 ("the Act"). The basic
provisions of Article III of the newly ratified US Constitution needed to be implemented and further defined (ch. 20, 1 Stat. 73). Article III, Section I, of
the U.S. Constitution prescribed: "[T]he judicial power of the United States, shall be vested in one Supreme Court, and such inferior Courts" as

Alfred Thayer Maan Influence
The Influence of Sea Power Upon History, 1660–1783 is a book written by Alfred Thayer Mahan, published in 1890. Mahan's book is about his point
of view and thoughts regarding to naval warfare and power with histories of naval wars included. Looking back at history, Captain Mahan realizes
how much the naval forces around the world had changed over the past centuries. Mahan explains how it is critically important to study the history,
elements and experience of naval warfare from the time of sailing ships to the current time of the book, and connects how they are similar and
different to each other. In the book, he focuses on the period from 1660 to 1783. He used Great Britain as an example to why the British Empire was
able to successfully dominate the most the seas during the time. The British dominance in political, economic and military power played a significant
role in why they are able to rise as the worlds' dominate empire at the time. Mahan researched the history of naval warfare and sea–related travels.

Spain later returned the territory back to French under the Third Treaty of San Ildefonso due to pressure from Napoleon Bonaparte. In 1802, there was

Italian Immigration In The Late 1800s
Italian immigration became very prevalent during the time of 1880 to 1899 as 900,000 immigrants fled to America because Italy suffered from
overpopulation, poverty and natural disasters. In the 1870s, "Italian birthrates rose and death rates fell" (Digital History). In the poor southern
provinces of Italy, over population became severe. By the late 1890s, the illiteracy rate in southern Italy raised to 70 percent, which was ten times the
rate in England, France, or Germany. "The Italian government was dominated by northerners, and southerners were hurt by high taxes and high
protective tariffs on northern industrial goods. Southerners also suffered from a scarcity of cultivable land, soil erosion and deforestation, and a lack
of coal and iron ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many Italian immigrants were known as birds of passage because they came to the United States seeking temporary work without any intention of
living permanently. Because the economy was suffering in Italy, the Italians were "unable to earn a livelihood in their home countries" (Digital
History). Most of the laborers who came to the United States were young men in their teens and twenties, who left behind their parents, wives, and
children to work and save money. Before 1900, an estimated 78 percent of Italian immigrants were men. "Many of them traveled to America in the
early spring, worked until late fall, and then returned to the warmer climates of their southern European homes winter" (Digital History). Because the
Italians were looking for high wages and not long term residency, they migrated to the cities where wages were relatively high despite the poor living
conditions. The Italians "lived as inexpensively as possible under conditions that native–born families considered intolerable" (Digital History). The
immigrants took heavy construction jobs such as digging tunnels, laying railroad tracks, constructing bridges and roads, and erecting skyscrapers.
"As early as 1890, 90 percent of New York City's public works employees and 99 percent of Chicago's street workers were Italian" (Digital History).
The Italians played a major role in the development of big United States cities as they were the labor force of the construction jobs. While the Italians
migrated to these large cities together, they formed ethnic enclaves and left Italian culture in these

Emancipation Proclamation Dbq
The Emancipation Proclamation has been argued as one of the top ten most important documents in the history of the United States. This document
stipulated that if the Southern states did not cease their rebellion that it would proclaim the freedom of slaves in those states. The slaves that were in
the Southern states were now legally free and therefore could enlist in the United States forces and be paid for their services and ordered that the Union
Army recognize and maintain the freedom of the ex–slaves. By the end of the war over 200,000 African–Americans were serving in the Union Army
and Navy. This document changed the aim of the war to include the freeing of all slaves in addition to preserving the Union. By the end of the war, the
Emancipation Proclamation had influenced citizens to accept abolition for all slaves in both the North and South. This lead to the passing of the 13th
Amendment (Slavery Abolished) in 1865. This amendment states that neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime, shall
exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction. Not only did it end slavery, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Use Of Sterilization Of Minorities By Supporting The...
Throughout history, people have consistently tried to prove that groups with inborn qualities can either vastly improve or degenerate different races
over time. This rhetoric has been proven multiple times throughout the course of the last century in the United States and Nazi–reigned Germany.
Supposedly, this rhetoric has been disproven throughout the United States; however, there are proven accounts that the United States government has
recently supported this theory of sterilization of minorities by supporting the eugenics movement, which was not only in Nazi Germany, but also on
United States soil. The topic of improving the genetic makeup of different races has not only just become a common theme for many modern day
countries to use to make their societies more genetically fit. However, it has adopted the basis for current racism that is clearly apparent in today's
society. If improving genetic fitness was not a concern to past societies, then people in general would be a lot more open to interracial and
cross–cultural relationships rather than completely disregarding the idea of dating someone that is visibly genetically different. Historically speaking,
Americans and the United States government have consistently had many issues of not recognizing their faults towards current situations that could
potentially be avoided. From the War on Terror and the Black Lives Matter movement, the United States does not like to look back upon past events
that have shaped the

Manifest Destiny Research Paper
Manifest Destiny is the idea that God intended the United States to expand from sea to sea. This means to expand and settle all land from the Atlantic
Ocean to the Pacific Ocean. The idea really came into light in the 1830's and 40's, but really you could see the American's desire to continuously
expand all the way back to the 17th and 18th centuries (A Patriot's History of the United States). However, the term itself came from an 1840s
Democratic newspaper supporting the Mexican–American War.
Thomas Jefferson was the first president to have a huge impact on western expansion with the Louisiana Purchase that greatly increased the size of the
United States (The Monroe Doctrine and American Expansion). By the 1830's, however, Americans were looking to expand western again.
Simultaneously, Texans were looking for independence from Mexico.
The Texas–Mexico relationship dated back to when Mexico won their independence. Mexico was trying to entice new settlers to settle the area, and
they originally looked to America to cover the vast area. However, this policy ended up being too successful and eventually Mexico became wary of
American influence on their land (A Patriot's History of the United States). This resulted in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Polk was able to squeak out a victory in the election of 1844. President Polk had four main goals in his presidency, three of which dealt with Manifest

Territory which at the time of his election Mexico had control over. President Polk turned out to be one of the most accomplished presidents, especially

Conflicts And Fusions Of The United States
Conflicts and fusions
As we all know, the year 1865 was an essential year for people in the United States. It was also a beginning for American people to unify their countries
and also a beginning for slaves' freedom. However, it was also the year 1865 when American people lost a great leader,Abraham Lincoln. In Lincoln' s
200th birthday, Obama said, "It 's a humbling task, marking the bicentennial of our 16th President 's birth–humbling for me in particular, because it 's
fair to say that we presidency of this singular figure who we celebrate, in so many ways made my own story possible."(Barrack Obama. President
Obama Speaks at Lincoln's 200th Birthday Dinner.#Page 2) Actually, Lincoln has cleared the obstacles about the second development of the capitalism
in the United States.
The conflict is the result of American history fusion, Of course, the history fusion can also lead to other kinds of fusions. What's more, a history
period for a country is a sediment for both cultural and economic development. So when people look back at their history, they will guide these
sediments for the future. However, once there is more than a countries history flung into a big melting pot, it must be conflicts in the pot. Then, with
unceasing frictions, a new kind of history for a new country would be inoculated and it would also produce a new kind of economic and cultural
fusion. For example, the modern America is such a melting pot country with conflicts and fusions.

Everywhere, everyone and everything looks like their changing. Throughout time, everything has changed a lot. In American history, the first example
was the American Revolution. If something was the same for years, then that would become boring. One thing that changes often is the Presidency.
Every four years, America has the choice to either select a new President or keep the same person in office. Some countries change leaders in less than
four years, and others more than four. The fact is that if there was a King/Queen that was ruling for many years, things would get boring. People

At first glance, Cuba is a paradise, surrounded by green terrain and shimmering oceans, yet internally the fight for power takes over the country. In the
19th century, many had the desire to be in power, although the two that influenced history as we know it were Fulgencio Batista and Fidel Castro. Both
of these leaders weren't ideal, as they both had faults to their governments. In fact, their conflict among each other changed the history of the Caribbean.
Castro and Batista's conflict was based upon the disagreement of their goals for the country of Cuba, as well as who their allies were. As the leader of

"Cut and paste history", according to Collingwood, a historian who feels that you should look at the facts, times and dates. He feels that "cut and

history is used because emotions, feelings and interpretations make the movie sell. He draws our attention by involving our emotions; we follow the

The Holocaust was a dark time in humanity's history; a time that should be looked back on in shame. People lost their compassion and empathy

"one of the best National Socialists, one of the staunchest defenders of the concept of the German Reich and one of the greatest opponents of all

Himmler and Hitler sent him to represent them in the Wannsee Conference in January 20, 1942, to discuss to the German offices the solution to the

Heydrich was very well respected by Himmler and was his right–hand man. And when Heydrich died in 1942 Himmler was very hurt by it and wanted
to carry on his legacy. This is what triggered Himmler to start the Final Solution. So he commenced Operation Rienhard, which was named in honor of

Proud Shoes Chapter Summaries
In the book Proud Shoes, Pauli Murray writes about her family's mixed race history and how the history of the United States with racism, specifically
the south, affected her family's history. She writes about the struggle with identity a lot of her family members faced. The book highlights how the
time period and the history of the country that someone lives in has a great deal of impact on their lives. My family moved to the United States in 2002;
a great time for immigrants because of the recent passing of the Immigration Act of 1990. The passage of this law created the Diversity Visa program,
which is a lottery that allows immigrants into the United States from underrepresented countries. Nigeria, my home country fell under that category.

caused a global recession.
The third financial crisis faced by the United Sates was the recession of the 1980's. Sablik (2013), states that the main reason for the recession of the

rates.
The fourth crisis was Black Monday, the stock market crash of 1987. According to Colombo (2012), During this time the Federal Reserve raised
interest rates to try and control inflation. This did not sit well with individuals who were invested in the stock market. So, in order to secure their funds,

movements in the United States that set out to obtain equality for Mexican–Americans (Herrera). At first, the movement had a weak start but eventually

The Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo, signed by the United States and Mexico to end the Mexican War, was a factor in the Chicano Civil Rights
Movement. In the Treaty of Hidalgo, under Article VIII and Article IX, it states that pre–existing property rights were ensured by the United States for
Mexicans that remained in the United States after the Mexican War (United States and Mexico). "During the 1960's, a group of Mexican–Americans
attempted to reclaim federal land in the United States" (Ramirez). Unfortunately, the United States decided not to honor a part of the agreement of the
Hidalgo treaty, resulting in loss of lands for many Mexican–Americans. During the Chicano Movement, many Mexican–Americans claimed that they
owned parts of lands in the United States (Ramirez). The Chicano Movement activists attempted to convince the federal government to honor the
Treaty of Hidalgo ("Chicano! A History of theMexican American Civil Rights Movement"). The farm workers' rights issues were also a major matter

Slavery And The United States
Over the centuries, slavery held a prominent factor in United States history. Slavery shaped and formed what society was in the United States. Slavery's
influence impacted the United States in various ways. The ways that slavery impacted United States history are the United States economy, society and
politics. Some historians argue slavery is not an important factor in United States history. However, they are wrong because slavery brought many
different political movements and the Underground Railroad marked it's importance in United States history. Slavery had an economic impact in the
United States. In 1794, an inventor named Eli Whitney created the cotton gin. The cotton gin revolutionized the South's economy. Upon the creation of

Instead of big cities and industrialization in the North, the South had large plantations and fields. Slavery was important to the South's economy
because they have a long growing season and a warm climate for farming. When the region has a great climate for farming, why would the South
change their economy? Slavery greatly influenced the United States economy by dramatically increasing the production of crops such as cotton
and provided large amounts of labor to upkeep with production of the crops. Slavery had a social impact in United States history. During the
colonial era and antebellum era in the United States, slaves were not treated with respect. In the documentary "Slavery And The Making Of
America", there were ways and methods of who slaves were treated. For instance, when slaves ran away for the first time, they get whipped. For the
second time, the runaway gets an "R" branded on his right cheek. The third time, the slave has their ear severed and another "R" is branded on the
left cheek, and for the fourth time if the slave is a male, he gets castrated. When white men did the same crimes, they served short terms in jail or lesser
punishments for crimes. African Americans were judged very harshly during this point in United States history. White Americans believe they had
superiority over the African American slaves because of their skin color. Edward Bull, author of "Slaves in the Family", spoke in the

How Did The Cuban Regime Change Cuba In The 19th Century
At first glance, Cuba is a paradise, surrounded by green landscapes and shimmering oceans, yet internally the fight for power takes over the country. In
the 19th century, many Cuban's wanted to be in power, although all for different reasons. Fulgencio Batista was known as a dictator, seen as the enemy
by many, but an ally to the United States. On the other hand, Fidel Castro was fighting against Batista –– opposing everything Batista fought for. These
two leaders were conflicting, both in their goals for the country of Cuba, and their allies. As the leader of Cuba changed constantly from Batista to
Castro, the Cuban regime changed. This regime change influenced both American History and Caribbean History. The regime change influenced many
changes to history, like: the immigration of Cubans to the United States, the Cuban Revolution, the Bay of Pigs, and more. Fulgencio Batista and Fidel
Castro, both Cuban leaders, influenced yet complicated the relationship between Cuba and the United States a tremendous amount due to their
opposing views and allies.

Castro strongly disagreed with Batista's changed to Cuba's government as ruler. He thought that Batista was allowing the United States to exploit
Cuba. The goal of the Cuban Revolution was for Cubans to "overthrow" the U.S. control in Cuba and be able to form "truly independent states"
(Westad 170). Castro clearly didn't have a good relationship with the United States like Batista did. He was opposed to what the United States and
Batista wanted to achieve for Cuba. Instead, his goals for the revolution were to gain true independence. Cuba became independent on May 20, 1902.
But since then, Cuba has had a major power controlling it. Cuba was independent but not free thanks to the control of one of two superpowers at the

One way countries are organized and categorized into developing and developed countries based on a various number of factors. Two of the
factors that are valued highly in the process of organizing countries are government stability and resource accessibility. These components are held

Compare And Contrast Howard Zinn And The People's History
1. Each author had their own objective in writing each of the books. Both books tell the tale of history much like any other textbook. However, each
book leaves out certain events creating a noticeable bias between the two. In The People's History of the United States, the liberal author Howard Zinn
writes about American history in a particularly unconventional way to convince the reader that there is another side to the history of the United States,
one that does not necessarily invoke a feeling of patriotism, but rather showcases several flaws. On the other hand, Larry Schweikart and Michael
Allen write about American history in a very patriotic way in A Patriot's History of the United States to persuade the reader that one should feel a
sense of pride in the history of the United States. Although they bear many similarities due to history not changing, the differences between The
People's History of the United States and A Patriot's History of the United States are very pronounced due to the bias of each author.
2. By assigning both, The People's History of the United States, and A Patriot's History of the United States, it allows us to take a look at two
different views of American history. Howard Zinn, the author of The People's History of the United States, seems to tell the story from the view of
those not in power, like those in slavery, women, and Native Americans. Conversely, the authors of A Patriot's History of the United States, Larry

The history of Mexican–Americans began with the colonization of Mexico by the Spaniards around 1492. At this time, there were approximately
eighteen million people living in Mexico as compared to the 250,000 Spaniards that came to the ANew World.@ This is shocking because these
250,000 Spaniards were able to conquer and gain control of Mexico. Many believe this was done because the Spaniards brought disease which killed
off the majority of the natives and because the Spaniards were militarily superior. Although this may be true, the Spaniards were smart and knew they
would not be able to conquer so many people by themselves. With this being the case, they acted as friends to the natives, joined their communities,
learned about their culture, learned the language, and eventually turned the different tribes of natives against each other. Two examples of this include:
Cortes, who recruited a native woman to be his slave, impregnated her and had the first Mestizo (half Indian, half Spanish) or Mexican child, and Alvar

The Nations Within Our Nation
Native Americans within the United States are the aboriginal population of the land. America was not a vacuum domicillium (empty landscape) when
explorers arrived–that was just a statement tool used to justify the mass genocide and conquests that occurred after colonization (Welch 9). There were
millions of Native peoples that populated this land with preexisting political structures and tribal relations of their own. In today 's time, the Native
American people are not fully free nations, but they maintain many sovereign rights depending on their level of federal recognition and autonomy. In
this essay, there will be an outline of the United States history and political similarities to Native American tribes, an explanation of how sovereign
nations interact domestically with the United States, and why these governments still exist separately within the United States.
The United States of America has a very tumultuous history with Native American tribes. The country originally attempted to eradicate the Native
American populations, but when the attempts did not work the citizens had to learn how to coexist with the tribes. Native American tribes are unique
in the United States because they are the only aboriginal peoples that continue to practice a form of self–government in the midst of a new and modern
civilization that has come to their lands (Deloria 2). The term nations were given

Introduction (Thesis)
After the Civil War, the economy & politics had a rapid return to success. There were other impacts that were not as positive due to theIndustrial
Revolution. Several groups were negatively impacted by this shift in the economy and political standings.
Groups affected by Industrialization There were several groups that were impacted by the US Industrialization movement. Three of the groups included
African Americans, Native Americans and Chinese immigrants. African Americans experienced segregation impacts that were labeled as "Jim Crow"
laws that denied certain rights ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There was also the implementation of sweat shops and child labor that impacted immigrants. This led to lower class living and infestations of drug
abuse, prostitution and gambling. (Chinese Immigration and the Chinese Exclusion Acts – 1866–1898 – Milestones – Office of the Historian. (n.d.).

Positive Impacts to "Average working Americans" During the Industrialization period, many Americans were able to become prosperous. After the
time of the "great depression", a need to progress through industrialization was mandatory. Many Americans began to see increases in their incomes
due to expansions of the railroad and more need to industrialize. Instead of having a disproportionate wealthy and poor class, the middle class
Americans grew. During this period, there was a rise in larger businesses. Some of the changes included, improved production methods, development of
new products, use of natural resources and a growing population. (History of the United StatesIndustrialization and reform (1870–1916). (2014, January
1). Retrieved August 2, 2014.) Reform was a key movement during this time in America. The United States also became a world power during this era.
Industrialization shaped a new America.

  • 1. A Radical Analysis And Argument On The Issue Of Lgbtq... Within this essay, the main focus will be to improve a radical analysis and argument in relation to the topic of LGBTQ rights movements. Injustice has developed during the centuries to be a main problem around the world, especially in the United States. There are many different issues that injustice addresses. In order to form this, this essay will discuss the history of LGBTQ rights movements since early 1920s. In reference to the position supporting LGBTQ rights movements, the discussion will concentrate on; discrimination and injustice and respect on people's rights. The word "LGBTQ" stands for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (and/or questioning) individuals/identities. There have been organizations try to call for an end... In 1924, Gerber came back to the United States and his return was amongst a scenery of urbanization and a developing gay culture in the United States. According what Gerber had experienced in his country, he decided to found an organization to protect the LGBTQ rights. With some of his friends, Gerber founded an organization which is known as The Society for Human Rights, a nonprofit association in Illinois. Chicago 's LGBTQ media have firm and deep roots and an old history (Thies). This Organization's goals were to protest police harassment, the US military 's treatment of gay people, and the disease model of homosexuality all over the nation. For example, Illinois became the first state in the U.S. to decriminalize homosexual acts between consenting adults in private in 1962. The Society for Human Rights published a newspaper, "Friendship and Freedom", which was given away to its tiny membership (Harrington). The society could only publish two issues of its newsletter, which financed mostly out of its founder's pocket; in 1925 the police attacked Gerber 's house and arrested all members of this small association. • 2. Spanish American War Analysis Throughout history, American perception of the causes of the Spanish–American War of 1898 has shifted drastically. As new facts and first –hand accounts come to light in the years following its events, historians have more information to make assessments, and as a result there are clear differences in the writings of three historians in three different points of time. Shortly after the events of the Spanish–American War, the blame of the war was mostly placed on the Cubans, with a focus on military strategy. The textbook, An American History, published in 1911, references aUnited States that was fixated on the military angle of relations with Spain and Cuba. In the time between the publishing of An American History and 1942, American perception of the Spanish–American War became increasingly emotional. The authors of America: The Story of a Free People, citing "In the fall of 1896, Weyler turned certain towns and cities into concentration areas, driving women, children, and old men within stockaded quarters where they perished like flies." The author later goes on to describe the horrible conditions over 100,000 Cuban citizens were forced to endure, an experience roughly half would survive. At the same time, the United States' involvement is justified through the securitization of American ideals in defenseless territories. United States citizens at the time used words that conveyed negative beliefs about the Spanish people, going as far as to call Dupuy de Lome, a Spanish minister exposed to have published a letter slandering President McKinley, "stupid". • 3. Howard Zinn 's The United States Howard Zinn 's A People 's History of the United States has been highly influential since its initial publication in 1980. It spawned adaptations for young readers (a two–volume adaptation by Rebecca Stefoff: A Young People 's History of the United States) and The People Speak, a History Channel documentary based on Zinn 's work. Zinn himself was until his death in 2010 a heroic figure to many, especially for this book and for his ongoing teaching and social activism, which were directly related. A People 's History of the United States was praised from the moment it appeared on shelves. A 1980 Library Journal review called it "brilliant and moving" and said it was well–designed to appeal to both historians and general readers. However, the volume was not without its criticisms. Some of these critiques align with party lines. Roger Kimball 's review in the conservative National Review labeled Zinn a "Professor of contempt" and dismissed the work as the ultimate in "anti–American history," a patchwork of leftist clichГ©s. Oscar Handlin 's review for The American Scholar dismissed both Zinn 's approach to history and the actual content of the work, citing a number of Zinn 's claims as fallacious. Some criticisms of the work carried more intellectual weight and addressed the quality of Zinn 's reasoning directly. Bruce Kuklick 's review of the book for The Nation suggested that A People 's History of the United States was essentially a textbook for the left, and as such it ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

History 2112 Critical Analysis Paper #1 Dr. Pitts James Hamby Monday–Wednesday 8:30pm Patriot's vs. People's Howard Zinn's, Peoples' History of the US and Larry Schweikart's, Patriots' History of the US are two analytical views on history that most people would consider politically conflicting. Zinn's Marxist book was widely praised by liberal activist and Schweikart's book is greatly publicized by conservatives like Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck. These two widely known historians turned their focus on writing two historical pieces that would fill in the "historical holes" that weren't being taught in the educational systems. It created a type of diverse learning that made for a great argument while still allowing the readers to understand all sides of the topics at hand. Zinn really dismissed the common "white mans history" and focused his approach on a multiple minority perspective. Schweikart's book is very different in the sense he takes aim at Zinn as he targets words like "great discovery" and "war on terror" which Zinn only used as scare quotes. Schweikart's book really reads like old history textbooks from the moral principals of the American founders that built this nation to the ideological view of American prosperity. No matter who shares the views of the political perspectives or condemns them because of its bias stances both historians felt responsible in writing the history of the United States. Zinn did not believe in an unbiased approach to history ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Mahan's book is about his point of view and thoughts regarding to naval warfare and power with histories of naval wars included. Looking back at history, Captain Mahan realizes how much the naval forces around the world had changed over the past centuries. Mahan explains how it is critically important to study the history, elements and experience of naval warfare from the time of sailing ships to the current time of the book, and connects how they are similar and different to each other. In the book, he focuses on the period from 1660 to 1783. He used Great Britain as an example to why the British Empire was able to successfully dominate the most the seas during the time. The British dominance in political, economic and military power played a significant role in why they are able to rise as the worlds' dominate empire at the time. Before 1900, an estimated 78 percent of Italian immigrants were men. "Many of them traveled to America in the early spring, worked until late fall, and then returned to the warmer climates of their southern European homes winter" (Digital History). Because the Italians were looking for high wages and not long term residency, they migrated to the cities where wages were relatively high despite the poor living conditions. The Italians "lived as inexpensively as possible under conditions that native–born families considered intolerable" (Digital History). The immigrants took heavy construction jobs such as digging tunnels, laying railroad tracks, constructing bridges and roads, and erecting skyscrapers. • 8. Emancipation Proclamation Dbq The Emancipation Proclamation has been argued as one of the top ten most important documents in the history of the United States. This document stipulated that if the Southern states did not cease their rebellion that it would proclaim the freedom of slaves in those states. The slaves that were in the Southern states were now legally free and therefore could enlist in the United States forces and be paid for their services and ordered that the Union Army recognize and maintain the freedom of the ex–slaves. By the end of the war over 200,000 African–Americans were serving in the Union Army and Navy. This document changed the aim of the war to include the freeing of all slaves in addition to preserving the Union. By the end of the war, the Emancipation Proclamation had influenced citizens to accept abolition for all slaves in both the North and South. This lead to the passing of the 13th Amendment (Slavery Abolished) in 1865. Throughout history, people have consistently tried to prove that groups with inborn qualities can either vastly improve or degenerate different races over time. This rhetoric has been proven multiple times throughout the course of the last century in the United States and Nazi–reigned Germany. Supposedly, this rhetoric has been disproven throughout the United States; however, there are proven accounts that the United States government has recently supported this theory of sterilization of minorities by supporting the eugenics movement, which was not only in Nazi Germany, but also on United States soil. The topic of improving the genetic makeup of different races has not only just become a common theme for many modern day countries to use to make their societies more genetically fit. However, it has adopted the basis for current racism that is clearly apparent in today's society. If improving genetic fitness was not a concern to past societies, then people in general would be a lot more open to interracial and cross–cultural relationships rather than completely disregarding the idea of dating someone that is visibly genetically different. Historically speaking, Americans and the United States government have consistently had many issues of not recognizing their faults towards current situations that could potentially be avoided. • 10. Manifest Destiny Research Paper Manifest Destiny is the idea that God intended the United States to expand from sea to sea. This means to expand and settle all land from the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific Ocean. The idea really came into light in the 1830's and 40's, but really you could see the American's desire to continuously expand all the way back to the 17th and 18th centuries (A Patriot's History of the United States). However, the term itself came from an 1840s Democratic newspaper supporting the Mexican–American War. Thomas Jefferson was the first president to have a huge impact on western expansion with the Louisiana Purchase that greatly increased the size of the United States (The Monroe Doctrine and American Expansion). By the 1830's, however, Americans were looking to expand western again. Simultaneously, Texans were looking for independence from Mexico. The Texas–Mexico relationship dated back to when Mexico won their independence. Mexico was trying to entice new settlers to settle the area, and they originally looked to America to cover the vast area. However, this policy ended up being too successful and eventually Mexico became wary of American influence on their land (A Patriot's History of the United States). This resulted in ... It was also a beginning for American people to unify their countries and also a beginning for slaves' freedom. However, it was also the year 1865 when American people lost a great leader,Abraham Lincoln. In Lincoln' s 200th birthday, Obama said, "It 's a humbling task, marking the bicentennial of our 16th President 's birth–humbling for me in particular, because it 's fair to say that we presidency of this singular figure who we celebrate, in so many ways made my own story possible."(Barrack Obama. The conflict is the result of American history fusion, Of course, the history fusion can also lead to other kinds of fusions. What's more, a history period for a country is a sediment for both cultural and economic development. So when people look back at their history, they will guide these sediments for the future. However, once there is more than a countries history flung into a big melting pot, it must be conflicts in the pot. Then, with unceasing frictions, a new kind of history for a new country would be inoculated and it would also produce a new kind of economic and cultural fusion. In the 19th century, many had the desire to be in power, although the two that influenced history as we know it were Fulgencio Batista and Fidel Castro. Both of these leaders weren't ideal, as they both had faults to their governments. In fact, their conflict among each other changed the history of the Caribbean. As the leader of Cuba changed, so did the government and it's way of functioning. This constant and extreme regime change had an effect on everyday people's lives. Oscar Montero and his family have been affected by such change. Both sides of the Montero family lived in Cruces, but he, his mother, and his sisters moved to the United States in 1961. 1961 was the middle of both the Cuban Revolution and the fight for control between Fidel Castro and Fulgencio Batista. Montero's mother decided that her family would be safer if they left Cuba. His mother thought the state Cuba was in wasn't a safe situation to be in because of the persistent war between leaders. Montero and his family flew to Miami, then moved to North Carolina. He spent most of his childhood in North Carolina but currently lives on the Upper West Side in Manhattan. This highly praised movie allows the audience to carefully watch a movie that is based on a day that started the United States' involvement in World War II. The movie begins with a two boys, Danny Walker and Rafe McCawley, who have grown up hoping to become involved in theUnited States military and slowly changes to the life, excitement, and hardships of being involved in the war. "Cut and paste history", according to Collingwood, a historian who feels that you should look at the facts, times and dates. He feels that "cut and paste history" a person is able to accomplish the most amount of objectivity because they are doing their best to prevent analysis and/or assumptions. "Cut and paste history" is more accurate because emotions and feelings should not be involved. However, when studying history through a movie this type of history would be difficult to sell to the audience, so producers and directors go back to scientific history. Scientific history is used because emotions, feelings and interpretations make the movie sell. He draws our attention by involving our emotions; we follow the love triangle that is made between Lt. Evelyn, Danny, and Rafe. We watch a desperate young girl, Betty, who hopes to meet someone she can spend the rest of her life with. She lies to the government to become a nurse. She puts her life at a possible risk in hope to find love. These are a few examples of the emotions that are attached to the movie making the viewer look at the movie in a different perspective, which often distracts the audience from what actually happened. These emotions are essential in keeping peace and harmony throughout the world, and give mankind a natural kindheartedness towards one another. Having the innate sense to feel for one another and understand the trials and tribulations others go through is what truly makes us human. This is what was lost during the Holocaust. Judging by Hitler's words and Heydrich's high ranking in the Nazi government, Heydrich was very well respected by Himmler and was his right–hand man. And when Heydrich died in 1942 Himmler was very hurt by it and wanted to carry on his legacy. This is what triggered Himmler to start the Final Solution.
