This document outlines the cybersecurity track of the MMU CIT Club for 2022/2023. It lists the track leads and their roles. The track aims to bridge the skills gap in cybersecurity by building industry-relevant skills through a roadmap of peer mentoring, weekly skills meetings, networking sessions, and cybersecurity simulations. The track will onboard new members on September 25th and cover cybersecurity essentials like networking, operating systems, and coding foundations before advancing to application, network, and host security domains. Interested students can contact the leads after the session or via WhatsApp for more information.
2. TECH LEADS YR 2022/2023
1. Kaburu K. Zeddie –Lead
2. Valary Ayuko - co-lead
3. Moan Logabo – mentee lead
4. Anderson Macharia –mentee Lead

3. WHAT IS?
Cybersecurity is a branch of information security that is
concerned with protecting digital assets i.e. everything
from networks to hardware and information that is
processed, stored and transported by inter-networked
information systems.
It thus focusses on protecting systems, networks,
computers and digital data, from unauthorized access
(intentional and unintentional), modification.
4. OBJECTIVE OF CYBERSECURITY TRACK:
Due to the current digital evolution, every industry quickly
adopting the digital infrastructure.
Consequently, cybercrime by malicious actors (Red-hat hackers)
is on the rise.
Intention is Data breaches. Data breaches destroy company’s
reputations and causes Denial of services to clients of
revenue=loss .
Reports by IBM, that 1M attacks happen daily. Cybersecurity is a
great concern. yet there is inadequate cybersecurity
practitioners.
The cybersecurity Track is working towards bridging this skills
gap by building exceptional industry-sought skills for defense
against digital dark arts.
5. HOW WE DO IT:
With the assistance of industrial experts, we have
Developed:
A Cybersecurity Roadmap that guarantees skills-build from
beginner to intermediate level.
Organized Peer-to-peer Mentorship programs.
Weekly Meet-ups for hands-on skill development.
Occasional Networking sessions with cybersecurity industrial
experts.
Playing CTFs to simulate real-life cybersecurity incidences.
6. Where are we set to begin?
We begin on 25th of September by onboarding all Student members interested
in cybersecsurity into the track
On 8th with a great session on the overview to cybersecurity -a great
starting point for every beginner.
On 15th of October we have a meetup with the cybersecurity with experts
already working in the industry. We will explore all the careers in
cybersecurity.
In the subsequent weeks we will be laying the foundation by looking at the
cybersecurity essentials/pre-requiusites: networking essentials, OS
essentials(Windows & Linux ), JavaScript essentials, HTML/CSS essentials, n
React.js/PHP essentials coding essentials.
After the foundation is laid we will begin diving deep into various domains of
Cybersecurity: web/mobile app security, API security, cyber-physical security,
IOT security, Network security, Host Security.
