Essay Military Discipline
Military Discipline 1.General.The word discipline comes from the Latin word disciplД«na which
means "to instruct". Discipline is a specific form of instruction which develops self–control,
character, and efficiency. Military discipline is that mental attitude and state of training which
renders obedience instinctive under all conditions. It is founded upon respect for, and loyalty to
properly constituted authority. While it is developed primarily by military drill, every feature of
military life has its effects on military discipline. It is generally indicated in an individual or unit by
smartness of appearance and action; by cleanliness and neatness of dress, equipment, or quarters; by
respect for seniors; and by prompt and cheerful...show more content...
Maybe a whole squadron deserted its post. In this case, the court handed down the famous, the
ghastly, sentence of decimation. The tribune called the legion on parade and ordered to the front
those who were guilty of desertion of their ranks. He reprimanded them, called them every name he
could think of. This was not just another sermon. Everyone knew how it was going to end. "Now I
want each of you to choose a number," he told them. And by lot one out of every ten men was
chosen to pay the penalty. What penalty? On the tribune's order, the army fell on these men–their
comrades–and clubbed them to death, mercilessly. The rest of the guilty men were allowed to live,
but possibly they thought death was preferable to the humiliation they had to suffer then. They were
told to quarter themselves outside the camp walls, where they were unprotected; and they were
given rations of barley–horse food–rather than wheat for sustenance. Their disgrace would live as
long as they did. "But it isn't only your severe punishments that produce right conduct," Polybius told
the Romans. "That alone wouldn't make men brave. You encourage them to act heroically by
holding out all kinds of rewards and incentives." A soldier who

Essay on Defining Military Discipline and Values
Military Discipline is a state of order and obedience existing within a command. Self discipline in
the military is where soldiers do the 4 rights without being told, even in the absence of the
commander. Discipline is created within a unit by instilling a sense of confidence and
responsibility in each individual. To strengthen discipline, senior leaders need to give praise to their
subordinates, either individually or as a whole, for tasks done well. By doing this, it will
accomplish every commanders goal of having a unit that functions well and builds a bond which
binds together the team. Everything in life requires some sort of discipline. Whether it is hitting a
baseball, learning to sew , playing a musical instrument, making good...show more content...
An example is when a soldier is talking bad about an NCO and another soldier sticks up for the
NCO not only because they can get into trouble for talking like that, but because it is the right
thing to do. It helps build a unit and unites them and builds trust. Missing PT on Wednesday was a
prime example of disloyalty. If I was punctual and made sure the alarm was set the night before, I
wouldn't have let the team down. It showed the unit that I couldn't be trusted with the smallest of
tasks, such as being on time. Had I been more disciplines, I would have been more aware of the
fact that the alarm was not set. Duty is the easiest to define. It is doing what you are supposed to
do when you are supposed to do it. Simply, it is your job. As air traffic controllers, our first duty
priority is to separate aircraft and issue safety alerts as required. If we neglected this priority, then
we would lose tons of valuable lives. It was my duty to show up to PT on time. By deselecting
this duty I let down my unit. Self discipline is the vital key to duty. If you don't have self
discipline you won't know what right is, or you will know what it is but you won't have the
discipline to do it. The 4 rights take a lot of discipline. It is our duty to accomplish the 4 rights: right
time, right place, right uniform/ equipment, and right attitude. By missing PT, I failed to accomplish
all 4 or the rights as I

Army Respect Research Paper
Respect is important in the army Respect can either bring a unit moral up or disrespect can bring
the moral of the unit down. Respect is a word that holds a lot of weight with people. I have looked
up respect but I have taken respect from the army value and broke it down into little pieces. Treat
people as they should be treated. This part of respect is the backbone to me and is a very
important part in the army. By treating people as they should be treated is what keeps us as
soldiers and senior leader's level. Yes, we do have to understand that there is a rank structure but
we also need to know that we are people to. Treating people with respect also helps us know that we
as people of America, all have come from different parts of life.

Respect in the Military
Essay The purpose of this essay is to further my knowledge of the Army NCO support channel,
chain of command and why we as Soldiers use them. It is also to inform the parties that may be
what I feel loyalty, dedicated service and also my interpretation of Military bearing and Discipline. I
am explaining the importance of obeying a lawful order from an NCO and performing that order in a
timely manner. The NCO support channel is designed to be subordinate to and supportive of the
chain of command. The NCO support channel is not an independent channel. It is mandatory of the
users of this channel to ensure that the chain of command is kept informed of actions implemented
through the NCO support channel and to eliminate the possibility of...show more content...
If an NCO tells a soldier to prepare a vehicle before they roll out for a mission, the NCO is telling
the soldier to get the vehicle and whatever else ready so that they can be fully functional and help
with the fight. Even if the soldier doesn't know why they are being told, the soldier must execute
the order without question. When a soldier executes an order quickly and to standard, they help
with the effectiveness of the unit, because every single soldier is vital to winning the war. They
strengthen the unit and increase the moral of the unit by relieving the leadership of worries as to
whether the soldier is going to carry out the order correctly. This builds a stronger team with high
morale. For example, when an NCO gives someone an order, the soldiers must follow those
directions so that everything runs smoothly and in an orderly fashion. The NCO knows what is
going on more than the soldier would. Picture, if you would, a soldier decides to cross the road and
a vehicle is coming at high speed on that road and an NCO gives the soldier an order not to cross.
The NCO is telling the soldier for a good reason, because the NCO can see the truck coming and
cares for his or her troops

The Importance of Discipline and Respect
PV2 Limke, Kasaundra 23 July 2010 The importance of discipline and respect Discipline and
respect are important in life as well as in the army. Respect is one of the army's seven values. The
seven army values are loyalty, respect, duty, honor, selfless service, integrity, and personal
courage. While respect is one of the army values, discipline is needed for all of them. You must
have discipline in yourself in order to have selfless service, to do your duty, to have personal
courage, as well as loyalty, and honor. And it takes a discipline to respect. The definition of
discipline is 1. training to act in accordance with rules; drill: military discipline. 2. activity, exercise,
or a regimen that develops or improves a skill; training: A...show more content...
For example if a certain soldier is constantly getting away with not showing respect towards his
NCOs or command, or does not have the discipline to do what is he is told to do/needs to do, and
the other soldiers in that area witness this often, they will begin to believe that respect and
discipline is not so important, since this one individual gets away with it all the time. This leads
to the other soldiers not caring to show the proper respect and to start questioning why they are
having to do things. And when it comes time to get a go to the field, and train or actually deploy
and fight, and they are told something needs to be done, it'll be blown off and then at that point
people start to get hurt. We have to have the discipline to do what we are told, when we are told
it, exactly how we are told it when we are fighting in order to save our lives. When we forget that,
don't bother to do it, or even question it, we become vulnerable, and in that instance we either get
hurt, get others hurt, or worse killed. So while we are back home and safe, we have to train how
we will fight, which means that we much remember to respect those in charge of us, those giving us
orders, and have the discipline to execute when we are told, how

The Importance Of Integrity Of The Army
SPC PECK 20150714 THE IMPORTANCE OF INTEGRITY IN THE ARMY. Integrity is one of
the Army's core values and one of the cornerstones of the army. The cornerstones of the army are
important because they are the very fundamentals that we all must live to uphold. We must
always embody and live up to the core beliefs and fundamentals of the army. We must try every
day to respect and uphold the army core values and beliefs. These core beliefs are what all the rest
of the army beliefs and discipline is built upon in the founding of the army. If we live up to the
core beliefs of the army, we are honoring all who have served before. We also honor all those who
have yet to serve by leaving the service better than we came to it. We are also honoring all those
who have paid the ultimate price for their country. If, we cannot live to uphold the very
fundamentals and the very cornerstones of the army way of life then we are letting our peers,
subordinates, and senior leaders down. Not only are we letting our peers, subordinates, and
senior leaders down but we are letting down all those who have come before and all those yet to
come into the service. Not only are we letting our army down we are also letting down all the
people who we defend, protect, help and support around the world. By the lack of integrity, we
cause our fellow soldiers, leaders, and their families' trouble as well. We also lose the trust of our
peers, and we ostracize our self into becoming the outcast of

Respect Essay
I have been told that I need to write a 1000 word essay on disrespecting a Non Commissioned
Officer. But it is really hard to write about this because I am having a hard time wondering how I
disrespected them. So, where do I start on this and what do I say about it. As far as this essay
goes I am just going to write how I feel about respect and how respect works both ways. It is
wrong to disrespect a Non Commissioned Officer because they are appointed above me to guide
me to the right place and things to do. But it is really hard to respect someone when they do not
respect you. Respect works both ways and if that person or leadership does not respect you trying to
respect them is difficult. No matter what is said it is disrespect....show more content...
I have seen way worse disrespect then what I have ever done to anyone. In my eyes disrespect is
if you just plainly say hell no or fuck off. I have never done that and yet they automatically think
that if you are asking them why you are told to do something it is disrespect but in fact is not
disrespect it is that the soldier is trying to learn from them. If I remember correctly the Non
Commissioned Officer Creed states "Competence is my watchword. My two basic responsibilities
will always be uppermost in my mind–accomplishment of my mission and the welfare of my
soldiers. I will strive to remain tactically and technically proficient. I am aware of my role as a
Noncommissioned Officer. I will fulfill my responsibilities inherent in that role. All soldiers are
entitled to outstanding leadership; I will provide that leadership. I know my soldiers and I will
always place their needs above my own. I will communicate consistently with my soldiers and
never leave them uninformed. I will be fair and impartial when recommending both rewards and
punishment." But it seems that only a few of the Non Commissioned Officers respect the lower
enlisted. Why should soldiers' words get twisted and why is that NCO's are not respecting the
soldiers and their needs. We need to be respected that is one of the many needs of the soldiers of
today. That is why a lot of soldiers act out against Non Commissioned Officers. Ok so disrespect is
all on what that person

Importance Of Respect In The Military
It is often said that the Non Commissioned Officer is the backbone of the United States Army. The
truth is respect is the true backbone of the United States Army. Not just respect, but mutual
respect. Without mutual respect the Army and all Military would fail in its mission. However,
mutual respect alone is still not enough. It is all of the core values that stem from respect. These
build together the necessary building blocks of leadership and mutual respect. There are several
definitions of respect. One is being deference to a right, privilege, privileged position, or someone
or something considered to have certain rights or privileges; proper acceptance or courtesy;
acknowledgment. The other relevant definition is the esteem for or a sense of the worth or
excellence of a person, a personal quality or ability, or something considered as a manifestation of
a personal quality or ability. (Respect) The first definition discusses the military custom and
courtesy of showing the proper respect to those of a greater rank or position then you. This is an
integral function of the military. It allows those in a higher rank or position to give orders and
directions which will be carried out without hesitation. However while this is a necessity for
success it is not the only respect needed. If this is the only type of respect garnered it could create a
hostile command climate. General John M. Schofield said, "The discipline which makes the soldiers

Respect in the Military
Respect Respect, especially in the Army is a very important value to live by. It is much more than
just talking kindly and listening to someone. It is the process of taking into consideration someone's
emotions, feelings and needs. You must also focus on their ideas, thoughts, and preferences. It is
showing someone that you value their time; that you care what they have to say. Showing someone
respect allows that person to know and acknowledge that you are tracking them and that you
comprehend and believe in what they are saying, It is important to allow someone to feel your
respect for them. It will ease the conversation and create trust. Behavior and attitude will allow the
person demanding respect to feel that respect. When we...show more content...
If a higher–ranking soldier is talking to you, you stand in the correct body position–parade rest or
attention––and you listen to what they have to say. Make respect an overall attitude. It is not
simply a thing given to a person after they have proven themselves but rather it is earned. Respect is
something that many people would do many things to have. Some would die for it (i.e. Samurai
warriors back in ancient Japan–they would take their own lives before the enemies took their lives).
Some would endure endless pain and suffering if they thought others would respect them for it; think
people being tortured rather than divulge top–secret information. This often holds true here in the
military. During our 'smoke' sessions, we often see others outperform each other and make a
competition out of it, just to earn respect. People see who can last the longest, who can take the
most pressure. Gangs and cults are the same way. They go through pain in order to look tough
and earn respect. They even jump each other into the gangs. This means they get beat up by
numerous people just to prove their toughness. To me, this is ridiculous. If someone cannot respect
you for whom you are, than they are not worth the time and effort of earning their respect. I
understand that you must prove yourself, but there are easier ways of doing so. In the case of
many of us military personnel, there is a mix of importance placed on respect. Some people, like
myself, depend only on freely given

Importance of Respecting NCOs in the Military
There are many reasons why lower enlisted soldiers should respect non–commissioned officers in the
military. It is important to respect an non–commissioned officer in order to keep the balance in the
work place. Even if respect is not deserved or given back to you, the military still expects you to
give them respect because they are appointed above you. Not showing them respect will result in
getting yourself in trouble that will make yourself look bad to your other superiors. Punishments
will be given out to whoever disrespects or does not listen to a non–commissioned officer. These
consequences must be obeyed. Further punishments will be given out to you if these are not
followed to every specific detail. Some people say that you...show more content...
Because of this inherent hierarchal quality, respect must be established between the ranks to ensure
that tactical operations continue to fit within a strategic plan. Additionally, in order to successfully
mobilize a military, some sort of structure must be enforced to ensure critical elements such as
communication, discipline, and accountability are properly maintained. If hierarchal respect,
particularly in the sense of customs and courtesies is not maintained, the effectiveness and
efficiency of a military is inhibited. In combat situations, if this respect is not well established, it
can put the lives of soldiers in danger. Furthermore, in most cases NCOs have more combat
experience or, at least, more experience in their MOS. In this sense they are better equipped to lead
lower enlisted soldiers into combat situations, to protect their soldiers, and to ensure the completion
of the mission. This is why they have earned the position of a non–commissioned officer in the first
place and should therefore be respected. I can understand the logic behind this point of view. In that
aspect I believe that if someone is an NCO they should work and live by the NCO creed. The NCO
is a soldier that is a well–rounded professional that has the experience and qualifications to lead
other soldiers. They must learn the NCO Creed. The NCO creed

Respect in the Military Essay
Respect in the Military It has been said that military standards are higher than the country demands
of its president. And that is true. President Clinton lied under oath. Perhaps that is not perjury, but an
army officer could not do that. Nor could army personnel have extramarital affairs. Kelly Flynn
found that out when she lost her position in the Air Force and years of pilot training went down the
drain. But for the Commander in Chief, it is another story. While it is true that the Commander in
Chief is able to get away with misbehavior, military personnel have been warned not to criticize him.
In fact, the various branches have been reminding troops that they can be prosecuted for publicly
condemning the Commander in...show more content...
Thus, just because Clinton admitted to doing the misdeeds, he cannot be criticized by military
members. In other words, one cannot accurately talk about President Clinton without getting into
serious trouble. The military may seem unnecessarily restrictive or antiquated but there is a
reason for the mandate. Officers must respect their superiors. It is simple as that. The reasoning
behind that is that routines and orders must be obeyed. After all, soldiers are being trained and
must be ready to go into combat at any time. The reason that the personnel cannot criticize their
leader should be obvious. If a war or conflict were to break out, it would significantly affect
performance as well as the world's perception about the United States. Thus, no matter how one
feels, there must be respect given to every single officer all the way up the line to the commander
in chief. The fact that Clinton himself has not been in compliance is immaterial. While he is the
Commander in Chief he is still considered to be a civilian. While it is important to give the
president respect, respect to Military Superior Commanding Officers and Non Commission Officers
is perhaps even more pertinent. If theoretically, when one is in the trenches with superiors, they must
be ready to accept orders willingly. The only way to accomplish this is with respect and military
courtesy. Thus, the fundamental purpose of having and enforcing a chain of command with

MILITARY DISCIPLINE AND RESPECT FOR AUTHORITY

Its extending respect to seniors at all times and the proper conduct, discipline, prompt execusion
of orders and to maintain separation of ranks. Customs and courtesies both are used in the
civilian and military world. Customs are those things we do in the military because we are
"discipline". For example, if a non commission officer walks towards a soldier, the soldier must
stop and immediately got to "parade rest" or "at ease" unless the non commission officer says to
"relax". When people enter the Army life, they become soldiers, soldiers who are taught to be
discipline in the military manner. As soldiers they are tought that if they have poor discipline it
can result the loss of a soldiers life. Being discipline simply means the understanding of our tasks
and obeying our orders promptly because our fellow soldiers and leaders depend on us to do so.
The purpose of discipline is to make us soldiers well trained, to ensure we wear the uniform
properly, follow orders, or to repeat tasks until they are done correctly. In routine, discipline is
things like saluting, addressing everyone with their proper tittles such as SGT, SSG, SIR, MAM,
Etc. Discipline isn't just following orders or just giving punishments for doing the "wrong thing" but
is something leaders and soldiers built together. Discipline is the desire to do what is right even if

respect in the army Essays
A Noncommissioned Officer's duties are numerous and must be taken seriously. An NCO's duty
includes taking care of soldiers, which is your priority. Leaders must know and understand their
soldiers well enough to train them as individuals and teams to operate proficiently. This will give
them confidence in their ability to perform well under the difficult and demanding conditions of
battle. Individual training is the principle duty and responsibility of NCOs. NCOs are responsible to
fulfill not only their individual duties, but also to ensure their teams and units are successful. NCOs
are accountable for your personal conduct and that of your soldiers. Noncommissioned officers have
three types of duties: specified duties, directed duties...show more content...
Commanders set overall policies and standards, but all leaders must provide the guidance,
resources, assistance and supervision necessary for soldiers to perform their duties. Mission
accomplishment demands that officers and NCOs work together to advise, assist and learn from
each other. There are two categories a Noncommissioned Officer's responsibilities fall under:
command and individual responsibilities. Command responsibility refers to collective or
organizational accountability and includes how well the unit performs their missions. For example,
a company commander is responsible for all the tasks and missions assigned to the company; his
superiors hold him accountable for completing them. Commanders give military leaders the
responsibility for what their sections, units, or organizations do or fail to do. NCOs are therefore
responsible to fulfill not only their individual duties, but also to ensure that their team and unit are
successful. The amount of responsibility delegated to you depends on your mission, the position you
hold and your own willingness to accept responsibility. Individual responsibility means you are
accountable for your personal conduct. Soldiers in the Army have their own responsibilities.
Individual responsibility cannot be delegated; it belongs to the soldier that wrote the check. Soldiers
are accountable for their actions, to their fellow soldiers, to their leaders, to their unit

Army Respect
What is respect? Respect can be in various forms. It can be knowledge, self awareness, trust,
character, honesty, understanding, and a positive attitude. But respect also has to be earned. If you
can't respect yourself then you won't be able to respect others. To gain respect you have to treat
others the way you would want to be treated. Without respect you can't have team work and care
for other peoples well being. It is respect which creates devotion to the team, and the important part
is that that respect flows both up and down the chain of command. A leader respects the skills,
strengths, and sacrifices of the people who work for him, and by giving that respect, in time and
with effort, his troops come to respect him as well. That...show more content...
For example, without loyalty, respect is not present. If you are a disloyal member of the team
you fail to contribute to the team in a manner that is respectable. The lack of loyalty is
disrespectful and in turn awards you none for yourself. Respect is described as esteem for or a
sense of the worth or excellence of a person, a personal quality or ability, or something considered
as a manifestation of a personal quality or ability. In the United States Army it is inaccurate to say
you are required to respect the man or woman behind the rank. The greater rank does not imply a
greater human being. However, It would be quite accurate to say that in the mechanics of the
relationship between a lower enlisted soldier and a Non–commissioned Officer regardless of the
enlisted soldiers opinion of the "person" the lower enlisted service member will "respect the rank"
and treat the Non–commissioned officer with the same respect that is due to the rank worn. This
hierarchical design is intended to maintain an order based on qualification and experience. It states
in the Phantom Warrior Standard book that every soldier obtains upon arrival to Fort Hood that,
"Courtesy among members of the Armed Forces is vital to maintain military discipline. Respect to
seniors will be extended at all times." I realize now

Respect and Integrity in the Military Essay
Respect and integrity, what really do those mean? I could look up those words in the Oxford
English Dictionary or Websters, or Dictionary.com and give a scientific, perscise and exact answer
to these words. And while that tells you what they mean, does that really give their meaning. Well by
Dictionary.com's standards respect is a noun that means to hold in esteem or honor, and to show
regard or consideration for. And Dictionary.com says that integrity means an adherence to moral and
ethical principles; soundness of moral character, honesty, and the state of being whole, entire, or
undiminished as to morality. The Army on the other hand has their own, similar, but specific
definitions for these words, they call values, and are one of...show more content...
The Army Value views respect as something that is just between people, yet at the same time it is
also something that is between offices. Each rank is expected to show a certain respect for the
ranks above them. In some units a private is expected respect a specialist, while both show respect
for their sergeants. This has less to do with the specific people then it does with their experience
and respect and of their peers and the people who are situated over them. As soldier we respect the
ranks that are above us because their peers and other higher Sergeants have seen something in
them. Some form of leadership, or the craftsmanship and mastery of their job that they have
found some respect for them, and decided that they deserve to be honored for it. These are people
who have seen many soldiers, and been in the Army long enough to recognize these traits in a
person, and other people should respect that. Not just because of the office they hold but because
of their experience that led them to that office. The Army has kind of got it right, in a way. They
view respect as a way that we should act towards each other and treat each other. But Respect is still
so much more then that. You can not respect just a person, or a rank, or a position, but also
someones experience that has led them to where they are. Its more about feelings

Respect and why the Marine Corps has a rank structure. There are very few things in the modern

that are more important than the rank structure and the the respect that is demanded of you by that

added details here and there, in this essay I will mainly be discussing what respect actually is, how

We must see that potential. We all need respect, regardless of how immature and gay we behave.
We all need others to see our potential and honor it to better encourage us to grow into it. Some

Parents and teachers may provide initial guidance but what you respect in a person is ultimately
your privilege. A Privilege. However skewed my opinion might be the fact is that in most cases
respect is earned by the actions towards an individual. All that being said the military works a
little different. Respect in the military is demanded of you by your Superior Officers, NCOs and
others of same rank that have three months more salt on there collar. This is where not so much
the definition but the reason it is given can get shifty. It is when one must absolutely show respect
without the normal necessity of actually respecting that person specifically. You are respecting
the title held by a male or female that is above you, normally by a pay grade or 4 and in the
Commissioned Officers case, on a whole different level than you are as an enlisted man. Not to
say that one cannot find an Commissioned Officer or Non Commissioned Officer that actually
deserves it for his or her character traits. Because I haven't met too many Non Commissioned or
Commissioned officers that don't deserve respect for all reasons. Most of the time good leaders are

Ethics In The Military Essay
To what extent is it morally right to force a subordinate to follow an order even if it is against their
will? Throughout everyday life, ethics are apparent within many aspects of an individual's life,
regardless of whether it's in the household, the workplace or even the military. without realizing what
they were. Ethics are principles that one follows in their life, which also affects the behavior of an
individual. The concepts of ethics falls into several components within one's life: events within
history such as Muhammad Ali's controversy, a religious stance like Christianity, or even a common
structure, in this case the military. This complex system contains many people with different
upbringings and morals which occasionally creates an ethical dilemma due to the different
perspectives of the topic. Within every branch of the military, a chain of command is inculcated into
the members of service in order to avoid many problems...show more content...
To look at it in a larger foundation, a disruption within the chain of command can influence one's
opinion on the choice of not following orders. The logic as to why the military functions as well as
it does comes from the obedience that becomes apparent between the two roles. However, if a
disruption between the relationship due to disobedience occurs, a chain reaction can appear and
cause chaos. Confucius explains that one needs to have "determination to fulfil their official
responsibilities even when that meant disobeying orders" (Chan, Wing–tsit). Confucius is well
known due to his status as a philosopher, and for implying knowledge of ethics that he teaches in
his works. By using reason to reach conclusions, the fact that Confucius states that it's best to fulfil
the duty of the job rather than follow orders provides an ethical debate based on whether people
think fulfilling a job is more important or following orders to be more

Respect: Military and Orders Essay examples
The Importance of Following Orders. Why is it important to follow orders and instructions?
From a military standpoint the difference can mean life or death for a soldier. On the civilian side
it can mean the loss of your job, loss of position, or loss of pay. There are many factors that play
into each individual scenario. No two events are ever the same and the outcome can range from a
verbal reprimand to the death of the individual. Orders are meant to be obeyed both explicitly and
implicitly. There can be and should be no deviation from the prescribed order. In peacetime or
during times of war we as soldiers do not have either the option or the privilege to take the orders
issued to us into our own hands. The only time this is...show more content...
Following orders is one of the most important things you do being in the Army, or any branch in
the armed services, enlisted or reserve. Obedience is what enables the military to operate in an
organized and effective manner which is clearly very important during challenging military
situations. While many individuals can question the notion of obedience in daily their life, this
luxury is often not available to us in the military, where the grand goals and aims require smooth
internal functioning and coordination throughout the chain of command. Indeed, many of the
standards that put up with and endure would be frowned upon outside the military, yet they are
essential to our work's success within. For example, punishment is never really deemed to be a
positive occurrence in an average person's life, whereas in the military, it is meant to strengthen
one's determination and instill discipline. It also enables a person to learn and fully take on the
importance of following orders in. Not following orders is not an optional choice that we in the
armed forces can make upon signing that contract. In fact, the act of the act of disobedience is
considered to be an infraction and a person who placed himself in such a situation can find himself
facing negative counseling statements, or smoking's. Thus, respect and obedience is of the utmost
significance in the military as it helps

just talking kindly and listening to someone.
Do what they ask and do it well. Treat them kindly and use proper language. You still must take
into consideration the person's emotions, needs, preferences, thoughts, and ideas. Do what they
say and do it quickly. Do not ask questions, do not smart off, and do not do anything to jeopardize
your own self in regards to the situation. It is important to complete the job task and complete it
well the first time. Show the person you respect them. Get it done, and get it down the right way,
the first time. This is how you show respect. This is how you earn respect. Respect is very
important both in the military and in the civilian world. In most cases, people can easily tell
when someone respects them or not. Once they feel that they are being respected, they can instill
more trust into a person, respect them back, and take what the person says to heart. They can put
faith into that person. Once we earn someone's respect, it is much easier to gain his or her
cooperation. It is much easier to have them support us and take our sides. We don't have to put as
much effort in to getting them to listen to an order or doing what they are told. Respect must be
EARNED. You must provide someone with your respect before they show you the same respect.
This is what I mean by earning it. I do not believe that respect can be demanded or forced.
Demanding someone's respect will most likely lead to some type of conflict. Respect

Military Bearing, Respect and Discipline
MILITARY BEARING, DISCIPLINE AND RESPECT The United States Army is structured on
several values and principles that it upholds, among these are military bearing, discipline and respect.
These principles represents what the organization strongly believes in and governs the most basic
customs and courtesies that all its members should abide by, otherwise legal repercussion and
punishment is enforced that could ultimately result in separation from the organization. According to
Field Manual 6–22, "Military Bearing is defined as having or projecting a commanding presence
and a professional image of authority". One is to observe a sense of calmness even in the most
stressful situations, leaders of the United States Army should maintain...show more content...
The fear of punishment is the basis for learning fast and what one should or should not do. It may
be a little harsh in the eyes of civilians but in the military, this is the only way. How is one
supposed to follow what is taught if there is no fear of punishment and reprisal for disobedience.
Training, retraining and punishment until perfection is achieved is military discipline. The
reason for this goes back to battlefield and combat conditions once again. It is through military
discipline that wars fought could be won or essentially save thousands of lives. Military
discipline is taught and learned with precision because these lessons are things that one should
always remember and one mistake could greatly impact a mission or change one's life. A good
example of this is soldiers who are not actively engaged in firing should always switch their
weapons on safe, they teach you and remind you and instill on you that these procedure needs to
be followed at all times. The reason why, if you accidentally pulled the trigger and is aimed at
yourself or a comrade, then you could potentially kill yourself or someone else thus lessening the
combat fire power and ultimately affecting the mission. Military discipline teaches one on making
these essential lessons to be learned as if it is second nature to you. One has military discipline
when you obey orders, follow procedures and continue the mission even if none of your superior is
over your head telling you

Essay On Respect In The Military

  • 1. Essay Military Discipline Military Discipline 1.General.The word discipline comes from the Latin word disciplД«na which means "to instruct". Discipline is a specific form of instruction which develops self–control, character, and efficiency. Military discipline is that mental attitude and state of training which renders obedience instinctive under all conditions. It is founded upon respect for, and loyalty to properly constituted authority. While it is developed primarily by military drill, every feature of military life has its effects on military discipline. It is generally indicated in an individual or unit by smartness of appearance and action; by cleanliness and neatness of dress, equipment, or quarters; by respect for seniors; and by prompt and cheerful...show more content... Maybe a whole squadron deserted its post. In this case, the court handed down the famous, the ghastly, sentence of decimation. The tribune called the legion on parade and ordered to the front those who were guilty of desertion of their ranks. He reprimanded them, called them every name he could think of. This was not just another sermon. Everyone knew how it was going to end. "Now I want each of you to choose a number," he told them. And by lot one out of every ten men was chosen to pay the penalty. What penalty? On the tribune's order, the army fell on these men–their comrades–and clubbed them to death, mercilessly. The rest of the guilty men were allowed to live, but possibly they thought death was preferable to the humiliation they had to suffer then. They were told to quarter themselves outside the camp walls, where they were unprotected; and they were given rations of barley–horse food–rather than wheat for sustenance. Their disgrace would live as long as they did. "But it isn't only your severe punishments that produce right conduct," Polybius told the Romans. "That alone wouldn't make men brave. You encourage them to act heroically by holding out all kinds of rewards and incentives." A soldier who Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. Essay on Defining Military Discipline and Values Military Discipline is a state of order and obedience existing within a command. Self discipline in the military is where soldiers do the 4 rights without being told, even in the absence of the commander. Discipline is created within a unit by instilling a sense of confidence and responsibility in each individual. To strengthen discipline, senior leaders need to give praise to their subordinates, either individually or as a whole, for tasks done well. By doing this, it will accomplish every commanders goal of having a unit that functions well and builds a bond which binds together the team. Everything in life requires some sort of discipline. Whether it is hitting a baseball, learning to sew , playing a musical instrument, making good...show more content... An example is when a soldier is talking bad about an NCO and another soldier sticks up for the NCO not only because they can get into trouble for talking like that, but because it is the right thing to do. It helps build a unit and unites them and builds trust. Missing PT on Wednesday was a prime example of disloyalty. If I was punctual and made sure the alarm was set the night before, I wouldn't have let the team down. It showed the unit that I couldn't be trusted with the smallest of tasks, such as being on time. Had I been more disciplines, I would have been more aware of the fact that the alarm was not set. Duty is the easiest to define. It is doing what you are supposed to do when you are supposed to do it. Simply, it is your job. As air traffic controllers, our first duty priority is to separate aircraft and issue safety alerts as required. If we neglected this priority, then we would lose tons of valuable lives. It was my duty to show up to PT on time. By deselecting this duty I let down my unit. Self discipline is the vital key to duty. If you don't have self discipline you won't know what right is, or you will know what it is but you won't have the discipline to do it. The 4 rights take a lot of discipline. It is our duty to accomplish the 4 rights: right time, right place, right uniform/ equipment, and right attitude. By missing PT, I failed to accomplish all 4 or the rights as I Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. Army Respect Research Paper Respect is important in the army Respect can either bring a unit moral up or disrespect can bring the moral of the unit down. Respect is a word that holds a lot of weight with people. I have looked up respect but I have taken respect from the army value and broke it down into little pieces. Treat people as they should be treated. This part of respect is the backbone to me and is a very important part in the army. By treating people as they should be treated is what keeps us as soldiers and senior leader's level. Yes, we do have to understand that there is a rank structure but we also need to know that we are people to. Treating people with respect also helps us know that we as people of America, all have come from different parts of life. Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. Respect in the Military Essay The purpose of this essay is to further my knowledge of the Army NCO support channel, chain of command and why we as Soldiers use them. It is also to inform the parties that may be what I feel loyalty, dedicated service and also my interpretation of Military bearing and Discipline. I am explaining the importance of obeying a lawful order from an NCO and performing that order in a timely manner. The NCO support channel is designed to be subordinate to and supportive of the chain of command. The NCO support channel is not an independent channel. It is mandatory of the users of this channel to ensure that the chain of command is kept informed of actions implemented through the NCO support channel and to eliminate the possibility of...show more content... If an NCO tells a soldier to prepare a vehicle before they roll out for a mission, the NCO is telling the soldier to get the vehicle and whatever else ready so that they can be fully functional and help with the fight. Even if the soldier doesn't know why they are being told, the soldier must execute the order without question. When a soldier executes an order quickly and to standard, they help with the effectiveness of the unit, because every single soldier is vital to winning the war. They strengthen the unit and increase the moral of the unit by relieving the leadership of worries as to whether the soldier is going to carry out the order correctly. This builds a stronger team with high morale. For example, when an NCO gives someone an order, the soldiers must follow those directions so that everything runs smoothly and in an orderly fashion. The NCO knows what is going on more than the soldier would. Picture, if you would, a soldier decides to cross the road and a vehicle is coming at high speed on that road and an NCO gives the soldier an order not to cross. The NCO is telling the soldier for a good reason, because the NCO can see the truck coming and cares for his or her troops Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. The Importance of Discipline and Respect PV2 Limke, Kasaundra 23 July 2010 The importance of discipline and respect Discipline and respect are important in life as well as in the army. Respect is one of the army's seven values. The seven army values are loyalty, respect, duty, honor, selfless service, integrity, and personal courage. While respect is one of the army values, discipline is needed for all of them. You must have discipline in yourself in order to have selfless service, to do your duty, to have personal courage, as well as loyalty, and honor. And it takes a discipline to respect. The definition of discipline is 1. training to act in accordance with rules; drill: military discipline. 2. activity, exercise, or a regimen that develops or improves a skill; training: A...show more content... For example if a certain soldier is constantly getting away with not showing respect towards his NCOs or command, or does not have the discipline to do what is he is told to do/needs to do, and the other soldiers in that area witness this often, they will begin to believe that respect and discipline is not so important, since this one individual gets away with it all the time. This leads to the other soldiers not caring to show the proper respect and to start questioning why they are having to do things. And when it comes time to get a go to the field, and train or actually deploy and fight, and they are told something needs to be done, it'll be blown off and then at that point people start to get hurt. We have to have the discipline to do what we are told, when we are told it, exactly how we are told it when we are fighting in order to save our lives. When we forget that, don't bother to do it, or even question it, we become vulnerable, and in that instance we either get hurt, get others hurt, or worse killed. So while we are back home and safe, we have to train how we will fight, which means that we much remember to respect those in charge of us, those giving us orders, and have the discipline to execute when we are told, how Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 6. The Importance Of Integrity Of The Army SPC PECK 20150714 THE IMPORTANCE OF INTEGRITY IN THE ARMY. Integrity is one of the Army's core values and one of the cornerstones of the army. The cornerstones of the army are important because they are the very fundamentals that we all must live to uphold. We must always embody and live up to the core beliefs and fundamentals of the army. We must try every day to respect and uphold the army core values and beliefs. These core beliefs are what all the rest of the army beliefs and discipline is built upon in the founding of the army. If we live up to the core beliefs of the army, we are honoring all who have served before. We also honor all those who have yet to serve by leaving the service better than we came to it. We are also honoring all those who have paid the ultimate price for their country. If, we cannot live to uphold the very fundamentals and the very cornerstones of the army way of life then we are letting our peers, subordinates, and senior leaders down. Not only are we letting our peers, subordinates, and senior leaders down but we are letting down all those who have come before and all those yet to come into the service. Not only are we letting our army down we are also letting down all the people who we defend, protect, help and support around the world. By the lack of integrity, we cause our fellow soldiers, leaders, and their families' trouble as well. We also lose the trust of our peers, and we ostracize our self into becoming the outcast of Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 7. Respect Essay I have been told that I need to write a 1000 word essay on disrespecting a Non Commissioned Officer. But it is really hard to write about this because I am having a hard time wondering how I disrespected them. So, where do I start on this and what do I say about it. As far as this essay goes I am just going to write how I feel about respect and how respect works both ways. It is wrong to disrespect a Non Commissioned Officer because they are appointed above me to guide me to the right place and things to do. But it is really hard to respect someone when they do not respect you. Respect works both ways and if that person or leadership does not respect you trying to respect them is difficult. No matter what is said it is disrespect....show more content... I have seen way worse disrespect then what I have ever done to anyone. In my eyes disrespect is if you just plainly say hell no or fuck off. I have never done that and yet they automatically think that if you are asking them why you are told to do something it is disrespect but in fact is not disrespect it is that the soldier is trying to learn from them. If I remember correctly the Non Commissioned Officer Creed states "Competence is my watchword. My two basic responsibilities will always be uppermost in my mind–accomplishment of my mission and the welfare of my soldiers. I will strive to remain tactically and technically proficient. I am aware of my role as a Noncommissioned Officer. I will fulfill my responsibilities inherent in that role. All soldiers are entitled to outstanding leadership; I will provide that leadership. I know my soldiers and I will always place their needs above my own. I will communicate consistently with my soldiers and never leave them uninformed. I will be fair and impartial when recommending both rewards and punishment." But it seems that only a few of the Non Commissioned Officers respect the lower enlisted. Why should soldiers' words get twisted and why is that NCO's are not respecting the soldiers and their needs. We need to be respected that is one of the many needs of the soldiers of today. That is why a lot of soldiers act out against Non Commissioned Officers. Ok so disrespect is all on what that person Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 8. Importance Of Respect In The Military It is often said that the Non Commissioned Officer is the backbone of the United States Army. The truth is respect is the true backbone of the United States Army. Not just respect, but mutual respect. Without mutual respect the Army and all Military would fail in its mission. However, mutual respect alone is still not enough. It is all of the core values that stem from respect. These build together the necessary building blocks of leadership and mutual respect. There are several definitions of respect. One is being deference to a right, privilege, privileged position, or someone or something considered to have certain rights or privileges; proper acceptance or courtesy; acknowledgment. The other relevant definition is the esteem for or a sense of the worth or excellence of a person, a personal quality or ability, or something considered as a manifestation of a personal quality or ability. (Respect) The first definition discusses the military custom and courtesy of showing the proper respect to those of a greater rank or position then you. This is an integral function of the military. It allows those in a higher rank or position to give orders and directions which will be carried out without hesitation. However while this is a necessity for success it is not the only respect needed. If this is the only type of respect garnered it could create a hostile command climate. General John M. Schofield said, "The discipline which makes the soldiers of a free country Get more content on HelpWriting.net

It is showing someone that you value their time; that you care what they have to say. If a higher–ranking soldier is talking to you, you stand in the correct body position–parade rest or attention––and you listen to what they have to say. Make respect an overall attitude. It is not simply a thing given to a person after they have proven themselves but rather it is earned. Respect is something that many people would do many things to have. Some would die for it (i.e. Samurai warriors back in ancient Japan–they would take their own lives before the enemies took their lives). Some would endure endless pain and suffering if they thought others would respect them for it; think people being tortured rather than divulge top–secret information. This often holds true here in the military. During our 'smoke' sessions, we often see others outperform each other and make a competition out of it, just to earn respect. People see who can last the longest, who can take the most pressure. Gangs and cults are the same way. They go through pain in order to look tough and earn respect. They even jump each other into the gangs. This means they get beat up by numerous people just to prove their toughness. To me, this is ridiculous. If someone cannot respect you for whom you are, than they are not worth the time and effort of earning their respect. I understand that you must prove yourself, but there are easier ways of doing so. In the case of many of us military personnel, there is a mix of importance placed on respect. Some people, like myself, depend only on freely given Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 10. Importance of Respecting NCOs in the Military There are many reasons why lower enlisted soldiers should respect non–commissioned officers in the military. It is important to respect an non–commissioned officer in order to keep the balance in the work place. Even if respect is not deserved or given back to you, the military still expects you to give them respect because they are appointed above you. Not showing them respect will result in getting yourself in trouble that will make yourself look bad to your other superiors. Punishments will be given out to whoever disrespects or does not listen to a non–commissioned officer. These consequences must be obeyed. Further punishments will be given out to you if these are not followed to every specific detail. Some people say that you...show more content... Because of this inherent hierarchal quality, respect must be established between the ranks to ensure that tactical operations continue to fit within a strategic plan. Additionally, in order to successfully mobilize a military, some sort of structure must be enforced to ensure critical elements such as communication, discipline, and accountability are properly maintained. If hierarchal respect, particularly in the sense of customs and courtesies is not maintained, the effectiveness and efficiency of a military is inhibited. In combat situations, if this respect is not well established, it can put the lives of soldiers in danger. Furthermore, in most cases NCOs have more combat experience or, at least, more experience in their MOS. In this sense they are better equipped to lead lower enlisted soldiers into combat situations, to protect their soldiers, and to ensure the completion of the mission. This is why they have earned the position of a non–commissioned officer in the first place and should therefore be respected. I can understand the logic behind this point of view. In that aspect I believe that if someone is an NCO they should work and live by the NCO creed. The NCO is a soldier that is a well–rounded professional that has the experience and qualifications to lead other soldiers. They must learn the NCO Creed. The NCO creed Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 11. Respect in the Military Essay Respect in the Military It has been said that military standards are higher than the country demands of its president. And that is true. President Clinton lied under oath. Perhaps that is not perjury, but an army officer could not do that. Nor could army personnel have extramarital affairs. Kelly Flynn found that out when she lost her position in the Air Force and years of pilot training went down the drain. But for the Commander in Chief, it is another story. While it is true that the Commander in Chief is able to get away with misbehavior, military personnel have been warned not to criticize him. In fact, the various branches have been reminding troops that they can be prosecuted for publicly condemning the Commander in...show more content... Thus, just because Clinton admitted to doing the misdeeds, he cannot be criticized by military members. In other words, one cannot accurately talk about President Clinton without getting into serious trouble. The military may seem unnecessarily restrictive or antiquated but there is a reason for the mandate. Officers must respect their superiors. It is simple as that. The reasoning behind that is that routines and orders must be obeyed. After all, soldiers are being trained and must be ready to go into combat at any time. The reason that the personnel cannot criticize their leader should be obvious. If a war or conflict were to break out, it would significantly affect performance as well as the world's perception about the United States. Thus, no matter how one feels, there must be respect given to every single officer all the way up the line to the commander in chief. The fact that Clinton himself has not been in compliance is immaterial. While he is the Commander in Chief he is still considered to be a civilian. While it is important to give the president respect, respect to Military Superior Commanding Officers and Non Commission Officers is perhaps even more pertinent. If theoretically, when one is in the trenches with superiors, they must be ready to accept orders willingly. The only way to accomplish this is with respect and military courtesy. Thus, the fundamental purpose of having and enforcing a chain of command with Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 13. respect in the army Essays A Noncommissioned Officer's duties are numerous and must be taken seriously. An NCO's duty includes taking care of soldiers, which is your priority. Leaders must know and understand their soldiers well enough to train them as individuals and teams to operate proficiently. This will give them confidence in their ability to perform well under the difficult and demanding conditions of battle. Individual training is the principle duty and responsibility of NCOs. NCOs are responsible to fulfill not only their individual duties, but also to ensure their teams and units are successful. NCOs are accountable for your personal conduct and that of your soldiers. Commanders set overall policies and standards, but all leaders must provide the guidance, resources, assistance and supervision necessary for soldiers to perform their duties. Mission accomplishment demands that officers and NCOs work together to advise, assist and learn from each other. There are two categories a Noncommissioned Officer's responsibilities fall under: command and individual responsibilities. Command responsibility refers to collective or organizational accountability and includes how well the unit performs their missions. For example, a company commander is responsible for all the tasks and missions assigned to the company; his superiors hold him accountable for completing them. Commanders give military leaders the responsibility for what their sections, units, or organizations do or fail to do. NCOs are therefore responsible to fulfill not only their individual duties, but also to ensure that their team and unit are successful. The amount of responsibility delegated to you depends on your mission, the position you hold and your own willingness to accept responsibility. Individual responsibility means you are accountable for your personal conduct. Soldiers in the Army have their own responsibilities. Individual responsibility cannot be delegated; it belongs to the soldier that wrote the check. • 14. Army Respect What is respect? Respect can be in various forms. It can be knowledge, self awareness, trust, character, honesty, understanding, and a positive attitude. But respect also has to be earned. If you can't respect yourself then you won't be able to respect others. To gain respect you have to treat others the way you would want to be treated. Without respect you can't have team work and care for other peoples well being. It is respect which creates devotion to the team, and the important part is that that respect flows both up and down the chain of command. A leader respects the skills, strengths, and sacrifices of the people who work for him, and by giving that respect, in time and with effort, his troops come to respect him as well. That...show more content... For example, without loyalty, respect is not present. If you are a disloyal member of the team you fail to contribute to the team in a manner that is respectable. The lack of loyalty is disrespectful and in turn awards you none for yourself. Respect is described as esteem for or a sense of the worth or excellence of a person, a personal quality or ability, or something considered as a manifestation of a personal quality or ability. In the United States Army it is inaccurate to say you are required to respect the man or woman behind the rank. The greater rank does not imply a greater human being. However, It would be quite accurate to say that in the mechanics of the relationship between a lower enlisted soldier and a Non–commissioned Officer regardless of the enlisted soldiers opinion of the "person" the lower enlisted service member will "respect the rank" and treat the Non–commissioned officer with the same respect that is due to the rank worn. This hierarchical design is intended to maintain an order based on qualification and experience. It states in the Phantom Warrior Standard book that every soldier obtains upon arrival to Fort Hood that, "Courtesy among members of the Armed Forces is vital to maintain military discipline. Respect to seniors will be extended at all times." I realize now Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 15. Respect and Integrity in the Military Essay Respect and integrity, what really do those mean? I could look up those words in the Oxford English Dictionary or Websters, or Dictionary.com and give a scientific, perscise and exact answer to these words. And while that tells you what they mean, does that really give their meaning. Well by Dictionary.com's standards respect is a noun that means to hold in esteem or honor, and to show regard or consideration for. And Dictionary.com says that integrity means an adherence to moral and ethical principles; soundness of moral character, honesty, and the state of being whole, entire, or undiminished as to morality. The Army Value views respect as something that is just between people, yet at the same time it is also something that is between offices. Each rank is expected to show a certain respect for the ranks above them. In some units a private is expected respect a specialist, while both show respect for their sergeants. This has less to do with the specific people then it does with their experience and respect and of their peers and the people who are situated over them. As soldier we respect the ranks that are above us because their peers and other higher Sergeants have seen something in them. Some form of leadership, or the craftsmanship and mastery of their job that they have found some respect for them, and decided that they deserve to be honored for it. These are people who have seen many soldiers, and been in the Army long enough to recognize these traits in a person, and other people should respect that. Not just because of the office they hold but because of their experience that led them to that office. The Army has kind of got it right, in a way. They view respect as a way that we should act towards each other and treat each other. But Respect is still so much more then that. You can not respect just a person, or a rank, or a position, but also someones experience that has led them to where they are. Its more about feelings Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 16. Respect and why the Marine Corps has a rank structure. There are very few things in the modern military of today or any military that has ever existed before our current military for that matter, that are more important than the rank structure and the the respect that is demanded of you by that rank structure. Those are two very important characteristics of every successful military unit. With added details here and there, in this essay I will mainly be discussing what respect actually is, how being respected is normally earned and in the military how it is demanded of you as a sub–ordinate to any ranks higher than you or in some cases any fellow military personnel who is more senior to you and why. On top of that I will be covering...show more content... We must see that potential. We all need respect, regardless of how immature and gay we behave. We all need others to see our potential and honor it to better encourage us to grow into it. Some respect sound judgement, some strength or power. Some respect altruism, some purposefulness. Parents and teachers may provide initial guidance but what you respect in a person is ultimately your privilege. A Privilege. However skewed my opinion might be the fact is that in most cases respect is earned by the actions towards an individual. All that being said the military works a little different. Respect in the military is demanded of you by your Superior Officers, NCOs and others of same rank that have three months more salt on there collar. This is where not so much the definition but the reason it is given can get shifty. It is when one must absolutely show respect without the normal necessity of actually respecting that person specifically. You are respecting the title held by a male or female that is above you, normally by a pay grade or 4 and in the Commissioned Officers case, on a whole different level than you are as an enlisted man. Not to say that one cannot find an Commissioned Officer or Non Commissioned Officer that actually deserves it for his or her character traits. Because I haven't met too many Non Commissioned or Commissioned officers that don't deserve respect for all reasons. Most of the time good leaders are placed in Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 17. Ethics In The Military Essay To what extent is it morally right to force a subordinate to follow an order even if it is against their will? Throughout everyday life, ethics are apparent within many aspects of an individual's life, regardless of whether it's in the household, the workplace or even the military. without realizing what they were. Ethics are principles that one follows in their life, which also affects the behavior of an individual. The concepts of ethics falls into several components within one's life: events within history such as Muhammad Ali's controversy, a religious stance like Christianity, or even a common structure, in this case the military. This complex system contains many people with different upbringings and morals which occasionally creates an ethical dilemma due to the different perspectives of the topic. To look at it in a larger foundation, a disruption within the chain of command can influence one's opinion on the choice of not following orders. The logic as to why the military functions as well as it does comes from the obedience that becomes apparent between the two roles. However, if a disruption between the relationship due to disobedience occurs, a chain reaction can appear and cause chaos. Confucius explains that one needs to have "determination to fulfil their official responsibilities even when that meant disobeying orders" (Chan, Wing–tsit). Confucius is well known due to his status as a philosopher, and for implying knowledge of ethics that he teaches in his works. By using reason to reach conclusions, the fact that Confucius states that it's best to fulfil the duty of the job rather than follow orders provides an ethical debate based on whether people think fulfilling a job is more important or following orders to be more Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 18. Respect: Military and Orders Essay examples The Importance of Following Orders. Why is it important to follow orders and instructions? From a military standpoint the difference can mean life or death for a soldier. On the civilian side it can mean the loss of your job, loss of position, or loss of pay. There are many factors that play into each individual scenario. No two events are ever the same and the outcome can range from a verbal reprimand to the death of the individual. Orders are meant to be obeyed both explicitly and implicitly. There can be and should be no deviation from the prescribed order. Following orders is one of the most important things you do being in the Army, or any branch in the armed services, enlisted or reserve. Obedience is what enables the military to operate in an organized and effective manner which is clearly very important during challenging military situations. While many individuals can question the notion of obedience in daily their life, this luxury is often not available to us in the military, where the grand goals and aims require smooth internal functioning and coordination throughout the chain of command. Indeed, many of the standards that put up with and endure would be frowned upon outside the military, yet they are essential to our work's success within. For example, punishment is never really deemed to be a positive occurrence in an average person's life, whereas in the military, it is meant to strengthen one's determination and instill discipline. It also enables a person to learn and fully take on the importance of following orders in. Not following orders is not an optional choice that we in the armed forces can make upon signing that contract. In fact, the act of the act of disobedience is considered to be an infraction and a person who placed himself in such a situation can find himself facing negative counseling statements, or smoking's. Respect is very important both in the military and in the civilian world. In most cases, people can easily tell when someone respects them or not. Once they feel that they are being respected, they can instill more trust into a person, respect them back, and take what the person says to heart. They can put faith into that person. Once we earn someone's respect, it is much easier to gain his or her cooperation. It is much easier to have them support us and take our sides. We don't have to put as much effort in to getting them to listen to an order or doing what they are told. Respect must be EARNED. You must provide someone with your respect before they show you the same respect. This is what I mean by earning it. I do not believe that respect can be demanded or forced. Demanding someone's respect will most likely lead to some type of conflict. Respect Get more content on HelpWriting.net

The reason for this goes back to battlefield and combat conditions once again. It is through military discipline that wars fought could be won or essentially save thousands of lives. Military discipline is taught and learned with precision because these lessons are things that one should always remember and one mistake could greatly impact a mission or change one's life. A good example of this is soldiers who are not actively engaged in firing should always switch their weapons on safe, they teach you and remind you and instill on you that these procedure needs to be followed at all times. The reason why, if you accidentally pulled the trigger and is aimed at yourself or a comrade, then you could potentially kill yourself or someone else thus lessening the combat fire power and ultimately affecting the mission.
