In this video, you will see how you can easily merge courses that have been made from information coming from your student information system into a single group.
Let’s say you are a math teacher and you open itslearning and find you have 3 courses showing up and there are all Algebra courses. You don’t want to manage 3 SEPARATE Algebra courses, In fact, this course here may just be showing 5 students as it is really just a subset of your period 2 group.
You’ll want to merge those three courses together into one BUT keep the ability to see within that ONE course, different groups of students and be able assign different things to different periods or simply send out messages to just one group.
In that case, you’ll need to use the Course Merge tool.
Click on the menu called Apps and tools and then the application called Course Merge.
If you are a teacher you’ll see your courses listed. If not, you may need to select the courses so click on your school name.
Select your school from the list.
The click on the teacher’s name.
The click on Get Courses.
The courses will appear on the left showing the current course name and the sections or groups already in that course.
These course are draggable.
You should select the course you want to become your primary first and drag it into the top white box.,
Then select the course you want to merge (secondary) and drag those ALSO into the top white box.
Here you can see I have dragged two courses into the box to be merged.
The one that is on top will become the name of the course you’ll see after they merge.
In the Sections block below will be the groups that will show up in your course.
Be aware that you can select more than two courses to merge if needed.
If you want each section to show up as a separate group in your course as might be the class for periods, click on Add group and drag that section in to that group B block.
When it is like you want, click SAVE.
Then click on to confirm.
Now on the right of your screen in the Existing Merged Courses section, you will see your Merged Course name, the name of the course that was merged into it and the groups that are within that course.
In this case we will have one course now with 2 groups, Group A and Group B.
Go to courses tab, and click on the course and you should now see the groups and the participants in each group.
This will not happen immediately. It will take overnight for the merge to take place.
The content on the primary course will remain but any content from the secondary will go way.
They are actually archived and can be unmerged if necessary.
The names of the group will be Group A and Group B.
