At first I thought that this video and the experiment sounded interesting. Brown eyes
against blue? Sounds crazy! I didn't notice until the second part of the experiment that the blue
eyes group wore the same clothing. I did not expect the instructor to be so brutal. Although it
was only verbal, the constant attack was enough to make one cringe; it certainly made me
cringe. I noticed as I looked around the room, that everyone was physically uncomfortable and
squirming in their seats. I found that the most powerful moment of the video was when the
instructor stood the young blonde woman next to the large African American man. I thought as
she was asking if the smaller things about them were important to them, “Race does matter,
but everyone is the same.”
I understand the issue of bias/prejudice towards people of ethnic race. Being half Asian,
I have had and continue to have stereotypes and racial slurs thrown at me. At the end of the
first half I remembered one incident that happened to my father when he picked up my
younger sister from school. My father is of European decent, in layman's terms white. While
waiting for my sister another parent also waiting for his child asked my father whose child is
his? He said "emiko". The parent then asked his "Where did you get her?” insinuating that she
was adopted into a rich white family. Neither I nor any of my siblings are adopted. That’s all I
though about for most of the second part of the video.
