Other Regulators
There are organisations that will be involved with the regulation of what’s being shown on
TV. An example of this would be Ofcom. Ofcom regulate the radio, TV and on demand video.
They also regulate mobiles, telecoms and postal services. As a result, this organisation is
responsible for accepting complaints. Furthermore, Ofcom have developed a detailed code
of practice. The watershed is the most important implementation from Ofcom, this means
that programmes before 9pm are presumed to be suitablefor afamily audience. Additionally,
there are also rules in place regarding product placement and gambling that has been aimed
at children. However, I do not believe that this is relevant to my work in Pursued.
Furthermore, another organisation would be The Advertising Standard’s Authority (ASA). The
ASA regulate advertisements on TV and any shows that carry out commercial sponsorships.
However, I don’t believe that the Advertising Standard’s Authority would be relevant to my
main production, Pursued, unless I decided to useproduct placement inorder to raisefunding
for the production. Furthermore, the rules that I will need to pay attention to will include
those regarding advertising my trailer for the production. When creating the trailer of the
film, I have the opportunity to create a 12 or potentially even PG rated trailer, in order to
advertise before the watershed, even if my filmis going to be a15 or 18 certificate. This would
therefore create a higher amount of interest in my film.
