Question 1
1. Question1of Evaluation Lauren Hudson
My genre isthriller.Ichose
thisgenre due to enjoying
the intensityandsuspense
behindthe genre.Thisisan
image of the locationI shot
my ‘chase’scene in.This
locationfollowsthe genre
conventionbecause of the narrownessof the areaand you
are able tosee the sun settinginthe backgroundwhich
couldconveythatno one is aroundand the darknessinthe
skymeansthat somethingcouldhappeninthisquite area.
It’sa verydesertedareaandforthe girl beingonherown
adds tothe creepinessbehindwhere she is.
Thisis the firstpart of
my filmopeningthat
yousee.It isthe main
character unconscious
on the floorof a
forest.Thishas
followedthe conventionasinthrillersadeathor
close to deathattack happens.Byhavingherledon
the forestfloorsuggeststhatwhateverhas
happenedisina quite area, where noone else was.
It linksinwiththe suspense andwonderingwhat
has happenedanddowe knowwhodidit. She isthe
victimof the filmsoby herbeingbyherself and
beatenupshowshowshe has beenusedandleft.
I foundthat intense music
reallyhelpsbuildup
adrenaline inathrillerfilm,
so whenIfilmedthe chase
scene I made sure the
volume waslouderthan
otherparts of the opening.Thiswassothat youfelton
edge whenwatchingit.The musicwasdramatic andgave
youa sense of howthe characters were feelingatthis
point.The musicalsoplayeda bigpart inthe backgroundof
the argument,howeverIturnedthe sounddownatthe pint
of the argumenttoshowthe intensityof the argument.
In thispart of the girls
flashbackyouare able to see
howshe is the victim.She is
a vunerable younggirl who
didn’texpectanythinglike
thisto happen. Bythe
‘villian’hittingthe girl characterwithoutnayweapons
(knifes,guns) showsthatmaybe these twocharcterswill
meetagainand thisinunfinishedbusiness.The reasonfor
not showinganyweaponsinthispart,isdownto it being
too earlyinthe filmtoshowa death.Iwantedto create
tensionintotrickingthe audience intothinkingthere might
be a deaththisearlyon,yetthere isnt.
My
reasoning
for not
following
the typical genre conventions
inmy openingisdue tothe
time andplace.I didn’tfeel
that itwas rightto showthe
audience inthe first2 minutessomeonegetting
shot.Thisis because Iwant to have the audience
drawnin throughoutthe whole filmandtoobe able
to feel the tense andadrenaline moments.
In thisscene the lightingshows
the opposite tothe feel of the
scene.Thisisdue to an
argumentyouthinkwouldbe
shownindark lightingtoshow
the dark moodbehindthe
argument.HoweverIfeltthatbymakingit brightshould
showto the audience thata home shouldbe a happy
warmingplace butdue to the negativityof the argumentit
isn’t. Linkingtothe conventionthisisascene where the
musichelpsbuildtensionanduntil youwatchthe nextpart
youdon’tknowwhat mighthappenafterthisdue tothe
girl’saggression.
2. Question1of Evaluation Lauren Hudson
Thissectionof my filmshowsthe
painthe girl is in. It isrepresnted
by the actionsshe isconveying
and the breathingnoisesshe is
making.The area she isin shows
she invunerable andisunable tohelpherself.The mise-
en-scene inthisclipshowsthatshe is beingpresentedin
the way I wantedherto be throughher clothesandthe
lighting.Itfitswell withthe conventionasherclothesare
scruffyas isher hair.In a thrillersomeone whohasbeen
chasedwouldn’tbe caringabouttheirapperance so I have
made my character lookmessy.
In thrillerfilmstheyliketohave a
hiddenmysterybehindthe villain.I
have ensuredthatthroughoutthe clip
the face of the villainisn’tshownin
detail sothat theycan’teverbe
identifiedtill lateroninthe film.By
doingthisitcreatestension asyou
don’tknowwhotheypersonisor why
theyare doingthis. Itlinksbackto the whole ideaof
the unknownandthe thrill of a thrillerandbeing
‘onthe edge of yourseat’,throughoutthe viewing.
I have challengedthe conventionin
the way that I haven’taddedina
destinationwhere the villainwould
take the victime.g.an abandoned
house.Thisisbecause Ilikedthe
ideaof the girl beingstrandedin
the middle of nowhere ratherthanherbeingtrappedina
house. Ifeltthisisbecause Iwantedherto lookmore
vulnerable andendangeredbybeingbyherselfinanopen
space, withno one whocouldtrack her downto findher.
Where I feltif she wasina house she wouldhave beenable
to of beenidentifiedquicker, due tothe house beinga
destination,sothatis whyI challengedthe convention.
