2. Concept Based Videos
• These videos are based around a single concept or idea,
they tend to be fairly unusual and utilize a particular
filming or editing technique. These types of video are
more uncommon than the others.
• The following example is the music video for ‘Land of
Confusion’ by the band Genesis. Aside from the small
clip of ‘performance’ within the video, a lot of obscure
puppetry is featured, a very unusual technique to use
within a music video. Although at times the video
connects with the lyrics, the video is arguably mostly a
Concept based video purely because of it’s obscurity.
The video won a Grammy Award for ‘Best Concept
Video’
4. Performance Based Videos
• These feature the artist, band or group
performing the song through most or all of the
video.
• The following example is the video for ‘Clocks’
by Coldplay.
6. Narrative Based Videos
• Contains footage that attempts to tell a story.
They usually contain actors and will link to the
the lyrics, but this isn't always the case. This is
a common type of music video if the song
features in a film, as film clips will often be
played in the background.
