2. Understanding and
articulating our beliefs are
necessary actions for the
design of a course
How these beliefs arise
from our experiences as
teachers and directly
affect the process of
learning and teaching.
these beliefs denote
the decisions made in
this process.
3. OUR VIEW OF LANGUAGE
We understand language as a means of
expression and communication. People are
able to exchange knowledge, beliefs,
opinions, commands, promises, feelings,
etc.
4. •Language is a fundamental element in the
formation of culture, it is a pattern for life in
society.
•(Whorf) Language determines thought
•(Chomsky) Inborn abilities
•(Piaget) Social relations mark language.
5. According to Graves, the view
of language that I have is
going to influence the view of
how learning process is
carried.
our beliefs at a later point in
the process help us to
organize the content of the
course.
Beliefs about language are not
always in the forefront of our
thinking, but we would return
to them to assess how our
course design incorporate
these principles.
6. OUR VIEW OF THE
SOCIAL CONTEXT OF
LANGUAGEHumans are social beings, and the
language they acquire depends on the
context.
Thus, the social context of language has
many aspects to take into account when
designing a course:
- the attitudes of that culture
- the role of each person in the family and
in society
- Customs
- Food
7. For example, in a rural context, the
characteristics of rural life and the lifestyle
of families in these areas should be taken
into account in designing a course.
For example, when designing a course we must take
into account the way students express themselves,
as this will be reflected in written works, since as they
speak it is how they write.
8. OUR VIEW OF LEARNING
AND LEARNER
Firstly, learning is a process; and this process
involves the development of the skills and also,
critical thinking; but…
why is important
the development
of the skills?
9. The answer is on the learners’
process importance, it is
relevant to recognize that
everybody is different, every
student is a different world; so,
we must have in mind that
learning is not only stand up
in front of the board and talk,
learners need from a good
learning process, in which the
teacher take into account how
the students learn.
10. OUR VIEW OF TEACHING
Teaching is also, a continuum process. As teachers,
we have to be always curious, we must be always
looking for ideas, solutions, tools…
11. Sometimes teachers make the
decisions, or sometimes
teacher is a mediator that
negotiate with his/her
students; it depends on a lot
of questions that actually we –
as teachers- must ask to
ourselves:
12. What do I need them to know? Do they learn
better if we sing or if we draw? Always
seeking to enhance students skills.
