Project Background
This is the final project of Introduction to the
Construction Industry. This project consist of 10%
of group work and 30% of individual work. The
objective of this project is to enable students to
develop an understanding of the building team, its
organization, duties and inter-relations. In addition,
it is also to develop an awareness of their
professional responsibilities and to appreciate
their profession in the construction industry.
In a group of 2 students, we need to find a
specific empty land to initiate a small construction
project. The size of the land shall between 50m x
50m (2500 ㎡) – 50m x 70m(3500 ㎡).
Introduction to the Site
After doing a few research and consulting with our
tutor, we decided to choose this site for our project
which is located at Jalan PJS 9/30, Bandar Sunway,
Petaling Jaya, Selangor, Malaysia. It is a land with some
trees and it has a sidewalk along the land as shown in
the pictures above.
This location can be found around the residential
area and few meters away from a commercial area.
The commercial area consists of shopping centre, and
small shops such as restaurants, banks, stationary shop
and etc. There are two universities inside the
commercial area which is The One Academy and A Cut
above Academy.

At first, we went to the site by walking from Sunway
Pyramid and passed through the commercial area. After that,
we passed through the road and reached residential area of
PJS 9.
There are a lot of vehicle come from Bandar Sunway.
Traffic jam will occur at 7.00 am to 8.00 am, 12.00pm to 2.00
pm and 7.30pm to 9.00 pm. However, the site is easily to
access because the residents are entering site by walking and
cycling. For the foreigners, they can go to site easily because
there is a big road beside there for vehicles to use.

Introduction
In this final project, we are given a task to find
a specific empty land with the size between 2500
㎡ to 3500 ㎡ to initiate a small construction project
on it in a group of 2 people.
I have decided to develop a recreation area on
the land that we found. I decided to a leisure park
because the land is surrounded with residential
area, education area, commercial area and also
service area which means a lot of people will go
through this land everyday.

Rationale to Build a Playground
 Near housing area so that people from this area
can go to the location easily.
 Enable children from Mega Kids Child
Development Center & Learning Academy which is
nearby the site to play.
 Can have a leisure time with their children.
 Easy accessibility to the site location.
 Near shopping mall and other shops which enable
people come here for a rest when they finish
shopping.

Benefits and Impact to build a
Playground
 Increase social skills when they play with other children
they learn to communicate, share, collaborate and
empathise with others.
 Increase their imagination and creativity because
outside play is often open-ended and children need to
be creative about what and how games are played.
 Increase thinking and problem solving skills as children
assess risks and tackle new challenges they learn about
having a go, persistence and perseverance and the
success those attributes can bring.
 Improve sense of self as they master new skills and
play with other children they improve their
competence and confidence in their own physical and
social abilities.
 Improve sense of connection to place, to peers and to
their local community and environment.
 Increase self care skills in managing physical and social
challenges which help children to learn about keeping
themselves safe.

Concept and Ideas of Proposal
The construction plan proposal is designed based on the
50m x 50m empty land located at Jalan PJS 9/30, Bandar
Sunway, Petaling Jaya, Selangor. The aim of this construction
is to transform the unused empty land into a place that can
benefit the residents.
After surveying, I have found that there is no any place
provided for the residents to have a time to enjoy with
nature. Thus, I decided to start a construction of a
playground.
The playground is open for everyone. It provides two
types of play structures. First structure is for the children
with the age between 2-5 years old and there is a shade
canopy over the play structure so that the small children will
not feel hot easily. The second play structure is for the
children with the age between 5-12 years old.
In addition, the playground also provides arch swing and
Net Climber for residents to play. The children can sit on the
special designed springer which is in octopus’ shape. Parent
can watch their children by sitting on the benches or gazebo
for a rest.

- Mop, brush, or spread paints, cleaning solutions, or
other compounds over surfaces to clean them or to
provide protection.
- Operate jackhammers and drills to break up concrete
or pavement.

Conclusion
I found it is a tough work to do however I have learned
new things and gain new knowledge. I also got
experience when I went to visit the site with my
partner, Xin Ying. I also understand the responsibilities
of the professions involved in this project.

In this final project, we are given a task to find

decided to build a cafe and a leisure park because

There is onsists of 2 floor. First floor is the car
park and leisure park and second floor is the cafe.
Rationale and Benefits
 To provide healthy and delicious food to
customers.
 To provide a comfortable place to customer to
have a meal and chitchat.
 To unite neighbourhood relationship between
each other.
 To provide a place to leisure in the spare time.
 To offer a place to the residents to exercise
and communicate.

Exercising today is very important to a person health. Exercising is
mainly for cardiovascular fitness. Some people do it because they just
enjoy it. Exercising also gently improves health. Health benefits such as
helping weight management, improve quality of life, and reducing the
feelings of depression and anxiety. Social benefits is one of the best
ways to meet new people while exercising. Exercise also can combats
health conditions and diseases, improves mood, boosts energy,
promotes better sleep and also can be fun.

It is a vital part of childhood that helps children develop physical strength,
coordination and balance. It can also provide opportunities for children to learn and
develop:
 Social Skills - when they play with other children they learn to communicate, share,
collaborate and empathise with others.

projects, and supervise the drafting of plans
 Produce detailed designs and documentation for the
construction and implementation of civil engineering projects
 Organise the delivery of materials, plant machinery and
equipment needed for the construction project and supervise
labour
 Develop detailed programmes for the coordination of site
activities
 Work with other engineers, architects, landscape architects

 Assist government bodies in preparing yearly works

  • 3. Project Background This is the final project of Introduction to the Construction Industry. This project consist of 10% of group work and 30% of individual work. The objective of this project is to enable students to develop an understanding of the building team, its organization, duties and inter-relations. In addition, it is also to develop an awareness of their professional responsibilities and to appreciate their profession in the construction industry. In a group of 2 students, we need to find a specific empty land to initiate a small construction project. The size of the land shall between 50m x 50m (2500 ㎡) – 50m x 70m(3500 ㎡).
  • 4. Introduction to the Site After doing a few research and consulting with our tutor, we decided to choose this site for our project which is located at Jalan PJS 9/30, Bandar Sunway, Petaling Jaya, Selangor, Malaysia. It is a land with some trees and it has a sidewalk along the land as shown in the pictures above. This location can be found around the residential area and few meters away from a commercial area. The commercial area consists of shopping centre, and small shops such as restaurants, banks, stationary shop and etc. There are two universities inside the commercial area which is The One Academy and A Cut above Academy.

  • 12. At first, we went to the site by walking from Sunway Pyramid and passed through the commercial area. After that, we passed through the road and reached residential area of PJS 9. There are a lot of vehicle come from Bandar Sunway. Traffic jam will occur at 7.00 am to 8.00 am, 12.00pm to 2.00 pm and 7.30pm to 9.00 pm. However, the site is easily to access because the residents are entering site by walking and cycling. For the foreigners, they can go to site easily because there is a big road beside there for vehicles to use.

Introduction In this final project, we are given a task to find a specific empty land with the size between 2500 ㎡ to 3500 ㎡ to initiate a small construction project on it in a group of 2 people. I have decided to develop a recreation area on the land that we found. I decided to a leisure park because the land is surrounded with residential area, education area, commercial area and also service area which means a lot of people will go through this land everyday. 1
  • 17. Rationale to Build a Playground  Near housing area so that people from this area can go to the location easily.  Enable children from Mega Kids Child Development Center & Learning Academy which is nearby the site to play.  Can have a leisure time with their children.  Easy accessibility to the site location.  Near shopping mall and other shops which enable people come here for a rest when they finish shopping. 2
  • 18. Benefits and Impact to build a Playground  Increase social skills when they play with other children they learn to communicate, share, collaborate and empathise with others.  Increase their imagination and creativity because outside play is often open-ended and children need to be creative about what and how games are played.  Increase thinking and problem solving skills as children assess risks and tackle new challenges they learn about having a go, persistence and perseverance and the success those attributes can bring.  Improve sense of self as they master new skills and play with other children they improve their competence and confidence in their own physical and social abilities.  Improve sense of connection to place, to peers and to their local community and environment.  Increase self care skills in managing physical and social challenges which help children to learn about keeping themselves safe. 3

  • 21. Concept and Ideas of Proposal The construction plan proposal is designed based on the 50m x 50m empty land located at Jalan PJS 9/30, Bandar Sunway, Petaling Jaya, Selangor. The aim of this construction is to transform the unused empty land into a place that can benefit the residents. After surveying, I have found that there is no any place provided for the residents to have a time to enjoy with nature. Thus, I decided to start a construction of a playground. The playground is open for everyone. It provides two types of play structures. First structure is for the children with the age between 2-5 years old and there is a shade canopy over the play structure so that the small children will not feel hot easily. The second play structure is for the children with the age between 5-12 years old. In addition, the playground also provides arch swing and Net Climber for residents to play. The children can sit on the special designed springer which is in octopus’ shape. Parent can watch their children by sitting on the benches or gazebo for a rest. 6
