2 Timothy 2:1-4 Paul used soldiers as illustrations for the life and work of a christian a number of times in the scriptures. many of our songs refer to us being soldiers of Christ. Soldiers of Christ are dedicated. Soldiers of Christ are properly clothed. Solidiers of Christ have precision team work. Soldiers of Christ depend on the Lord for victory.
2. 2 Timothy 2:1-4 You therefore, my
son, be strong in the grace that is in
Christ Jesus. 2 And the things that
you have heard from me among many
witnesses, commit these to faithful
men who will be able to teach others
also. 3 You therefore must endure
hardship as a good soldier of Jesus
Christ. 4 No one engaged in warfare
entangles himself with the affairs of
this life, that he may please him who
enlisted him as a soldier.
3. A MIGHTY ARMY
A.Philippians 2:25 Yet I considered it necessary to send
to you Epaphroditus, my brother, fellow worker, and
fellow soldier, but your messenger and the one who
ministered to my need;
B.Philemon 1:1-2 Paul, a prisoner of Christ Jesus, and
Timothy our brother, To Philemon our beloved friend
and fellow laborer, 2 to the beloved Apphia, Archippus
our fellow soldier, and to the church in your house:

E.There are four main topics about the soldier that make
up this mighty Army.
4. I.THE SOLDIERS OF A MIGHTY
ARMY ARE DEDICATED.
A. They work to enlist others in the army. 2 Tim. 2:2
And the things that you have heard from me
among many witnesses, commit these to faithful
men who will be able to teach others also.
B. They are willing to endure hardness. 2 Tim. 2:3
You therefore must endure hardship as a good
soldier of Jesus Christ.
C. They lose outside entanglement. 2 Tim. 2:4 No
one engaged in warfare entangles himself with
the affairs of this life, that he may please him
who enlisted him as a soldier.
5. I.THE SOLDIERS OF A MIGHTY
ARMY ARE DEDICATED.
D. They obey rules. 2 Tim. 2:5 And also if
anyone competes in athletics, he is not
crowned unless he competes according to
the rules.
E. They prepare themselves. 2 Tim. 2:15 Be
diligent to present yourself approved to
God, a worker who does not need to be
ashamed, rightly dividing the word of
truth.
6. I.THE SOLDIERS OF A MIGHTY
ARMY ARE DEDICATED.
F. They shun that which would hinder their
service. 2 Tim. 2:16 But shun profane and idle
babblings, for they will increase to more
ungodliness
G. They keep themselves fit. 2 Tim. 2:21 Therefore
if anyone cleanses himself from the latter, he will
be a vessel for honor, sanctified and useful for
the Master, prepared for every good work.
H. They pursue righteousness. 2 Tim. 2:22 Flee
also youthful lusts; but pursue righteousness,
faith, love, peace with those who call on the
Lord out of a pure heart.
7. I.THE SOLDIERS OF A MIGHTY
ARMY ARE DEDICATED.
I. They remember who the enemy is. 2 Tim. 2:23-
26 But avoid foolish and ignorant disputes,
knowing that they generate strife. 24 And a
servant of the Lord must not quarrel but be
gentle to all, able to teach, patient, 25 in humility
correcting those who are in opposition, if God
perhaps will grant them repentance, so that they
may know the truth, 26 and that they may come
to their senses and escape the snare of the
devil, having been taken captive by him to do
his will.
8. II. THE SOLDIERS OF A MIGHTY
ARMY ARE PROPERLY CLOTHED.
A. Their power is from God. Eph. 6:10 Finally, my
brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of
His might.
B. Their armor protects them. Eph. 6:11 Put on the
whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand
against the wiles of the devil.
C. Their battle is with the rulers of darkness. Eph. 6:12
For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but
against principalities, against powers, against the
rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual
hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.
D. Their armor must be complete. Eph. 6:13 Therefore
take up the whole armor of God, that you may be
able to withstand in the evil day, and having done
all, to stand.
9. II. THE SOLDIERS OF A MIGHTY
ARMY ARE PROPERLY CLOTHED.
D. Their armor must be complete.
1. Girdle of Truth, Eph. 6:14a (A girdle holds in
contact, or place)
2. Breastplate of Righteousness. Eph. 6:14b (A
breastplate will protect the center of life)
3. Feet shod with preparation of Gospel of Peace
Eph. 6:15 (Ready to carry the message of peace)
4. Shield of Faith to quench all the fiery darts of the
wicked one. Eph. 6:16.
5. Helmet of Salvation. Eph. 6:17a
6. Sword of Spirit which is the word of God. Eph.
6:17b
7. Climaxed with Prayer, Supplication, and
Watching. Eph. 6:18
10. III. THE SOLDIERS OF A MIGHTY ARMY
HAVE PRECISION TEAM WORK.
A. Cooperate with fellow soldiers. 1 Corinthians
3:9 For we are God's fellow workers; you are
God's field, you are God's building. Gideon and
his conquest a worthy example. "Every man
stood in his place"
B. He is willing to drill and exercise. 1 Timothy 4:7-
8 But reject profane and old wives' fables, and
exercise yourself toward godliness. 8 For bodily
exercise profits a little, but godliness is
profitable for all things, having promise of the
life that now is and of that which is to come.
11. III. THE SOLDIERS OF A MIGHTY ARMY
HAVE PRECISION TEAM WORK.
C. He obeys orders. 2 Corinthians 10:3-5 For
though we walk in the flesh, we do not war
according to the flesh. 4 For the weapons
of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in
God for pulling down strongholds,
5 casting down arguments and every high
thing that exalts itself against the
knowledge of God, bringing every thought
into captivity to the obedience of Christ,
12. IV. THE SOLDIERS OF A MIGHTY ARMY
DEPEND ON THE LORD FOR VICTORY.
A. We are conquerors through Christ. Romans 8:31-
39 What then shall we say to these things? If God
is for us, who can be against us? 32 He who did
not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for
us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give
us all things?
B. Our victory is through Christ. 1 Corinthians 15:57-
58 But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory
through our Lord Jesus Christ. 58 Therefore, my
beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always
abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that
your labor is not in vain in the Lord.
13. ARE YOU A SOLDIER OF CHRIST?
A.Are you dedicated to the service of the
Lord?
B.Are you wearing all the armor of the
Lord?
C.Are you working together with your
fellow soldiers?
D.Are you depending on the Lord for
victory?
