2. Heb 11:1 ESV Now faith is the assurance of things
hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.
1. Faith is being sure of things you cannot see.
2. Faith is being sure of things hoped for (eternal life).
3. Faith is based upon a conviction of the evidences.
3. Rom 1:19-25 NKJV because what may be known of
God is manifest in them, for God has shown it to them.
(20) For since the creation of the world His invisible
attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the
things that are made, even His eternal power and
Godhead, so that they are without excuse, (21)
because, although they knew God, they did not glorify
Him as God, nor were thankful, but became futile in
their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened.
4. Rom 1:19-25 continued (22) Professing to be wise,
they became fools, (23) and changed the glory of the
incorruptible God into an image made like corruptible
man—and birds and four-footed animals and creeping
things. (24) Therefore God also gave them up to
uncleanness, in the lusts of their hearts, to dishonor
their bodies among themselves, (25) who exchanged
the truth of God for the lie, and worshiped and served
the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed
forever. Amen.
5. Gal 3:1 NKJV O foolish Galatians! Who has bewitched you
that you should not obey the truth, before whose eyes Jesus
Christ was clearly portrayed among you as crucified?
Bewitched – baskainō here it means to charm or bewitch, to
lead astray by charms or spells.
“Should not obey the truth” is not found in what is considered
the best manuscripts. Therefore, most of the newer
translations do not include.
The greater question becomes, is the statement consistent with
biblical truth; John 8:32; 17:17
6. Joh 3:36 ESV Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life;
whoever does not obey the Son shall not see life, but the wrath
of God remains on him.
Rom 2:6-10 NKJV who "WILL RENDER TO EACH ONE
ACCORDING TO HIS DEEDS": (7) eternal life to those
who by patient continuance in doing good seek for glory,
honor, and immortality; (8) but to those who are self-seeking
and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness—
indignation and wrath, (9) tribulation and anguish, on every
soul of man who does evil, of the Jew first and also of the
Greek; (10) but glory, honor, and peace to everyone who
works what is good, to the Jew first and also to the Greek.
7. Rom 6:16-17 NKJV Do you not know that to whom you
present yourselves slaves to obey, you are that one's slaves
whom you obey, whether of sin leading to death, or of
obedience leading to righteousness? (17) But God be thanked
that though you were slaves of sin, yet you obeyed from the
heart that form of doctrine to which you were delivered.
Heb 3:17-19 NKJV Now with whom was He angry forty
years? Was it not with those who sinned, whose corpses fell in
the wilderness? (18) And to whom did He swear that they
would not enter His rest, but to those who did not obey? (19)
So we see that they could not enter in because of unbelief.
8. 2Th 1:7-9 NKJV and to give you who are troubled rest with
us when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven with His
mighty angels, (8) in flaming fire taking vengeance on those
who do not know God, and on those who do not obey the
gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. (9) These shall be punished
with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord and
from the glory of His power,
9. Gal 3:2-5 NKJV This only I want to learn from you: Did you
receive the Spirit by the works of the law, or by the hearing of
faith?— (3) Are you so foolish? Having begun in the Spirit,
are you now being made perfect by the flesh? (4) Have you
suffered so many things in vain—if indeed it was in vain? (5)
Therefore He who supplies the Spirit to you and works
miracles among you, does He do it by the works of the law, or
by the hearing of faith?
10. Gal 5:16 NKJV I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall
not fulfill the lust of the flesh.
Gal 5:18 NKJV But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not
under the law.
Gal 5:25 NKJV If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the
Spirit.
But How are we led by the Spirit?
“Hearing of faith” – We are led by the Spirit by a “hearing of
faith”
12. Rom 10:14-17 NKJV How then shall they call on Him in
whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in
Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear
without a preacher? (15) And how shall they preach unless
they are sent? As it is written: "HOW BEAUTIFUL ARE THE
FEET OF THOSE WHO PREACH THE GOSPEL OF
PEACE, WHO BRING GLAD TIDINGS OF GOOD
THINGS!" (16) But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For
Isaiah says, "LORD, WHO HAS BELIEVED OUR
REPORT?" (17) So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing
by the word of God.
13. Gal 3:7-9 NKJV Therefore know that only those who are of
faith are sons of Abraham. (8) And the Scripture, foreseeing
that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, preached the
gospel to Abraham beforehand, saying, "In you all the nations
shall be blessed." (9) So then those who are of faith are
blessed with believing Abraham.
Gal 3:9 ESV So then, those who are of faith are blessed along
with Abraham, the man of faith.
What does it mean to be a man of faith?
14. Heb 11:8 NKJV By faith Abraham obeyed when he was
called to go out to the place which he would receive as an
inheritance. And he went out, not knowing where he was
going.
Heb 11:17 NKJV By faith Abraham, when he was tested,
offered up Isaac, and he who had received the promises
offered up his only begotten son,
Heb 11:13 NKJV These all died in faith, not having received
the promises, but having seen them afar off were assured of
them, embraced them and confessed that they were strangers
and pilgrims on the earth.
15. Read Galatians 3:13,14, 18, 22-25
Gal 3:26-29 NKJV For you are all sons of God through faith
in Christ Jesus. (27) For as many of you as were baptized
into Christ have put on Christ. (28) There is neither Jew nor
Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor
female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus. (29) And if you
are Christ's, then you are Abraham's seed, and heirs according
to the promise.
