1. Granite Countertops Purchasing Information
The cost of granite vary depending on different factors like thickness, origin, edge treatment
and color. The price is usually calculated in square foot and it may range from $20-$200 per
square foot. Some places may charge extra, by the lineal foot to polish the edges of the
granite.
Another factor to consider are the colors available, granite countertops comes in a wide
variety of colors. The color one chooses will depend on personal preferences but it's
important to match the color with the dominant color in the room. The color choice can
brighten or darken a room and if you are lost for color then you can always go for the neutral
colors. Before making the purchase you need to choose your preferred thickness, the
common granite thickness is 2 or 3 cm also known as ¾ or the 1 inch. If you decide to go
with the 3 cm you will pay more but you will need no plywood for support unlike the 2cm
granite countertops. You also need to select the edge that is safe and makes your countertop
attractive. Flat edges can sometimes have sharp edges, if you get a flat edge make sure to
check the entire countertop for sharp places. If you a sharp edge make sure they dull it
before they leave your house. Most people prefer the double round over or full bull nose
edge because it's safe especially if you have children. Other types of edges you can choose
are square edges, rounded edges, ogee, beveled edges and waterfall edges, you can also
get a customized edges if you would like. Some places will even let you draw out the edge
you want for your countertop. (Be aware if you have a custom edge it will come with a
custom price)
Granite countertops seams are inevitable but you can ask the fabricator if it's possible to
install a seamless countertop or place them in a spot where they are less visible. Sometimes
you can hide a seam by placing it in the middle of your sink or one the edge of the sink. This
will allow the seam to be in front of the sink and behind the sink, in most cases doing it this
way the seam will only be about 4 inches in length instead of the entire length of the
countertop.
You need to understand granite is differentiate by the color, pattern among other finer details
and that's why choosing the slab yourself is very important since the finer details will have a
great impact on the final outcome. When buying granite countertop it's important to look at
the finish, there are different types of finishes. There are many types of granite out there, if
you don't find the right granite right away look at other granite suppliers. In my area I have
four different granite suppliers and they all have huge buildings with different stone colors in
each of them.
Most people prefer the polished finish which has a mirror like appearance and it makes the
counter look very beautiful plus it's easy to clean. You can also decide to go for the honed
finish which is a little rougher and it gives a feeling of warmth. kitchen granite countertops
