A Career in Film Production Essay
My entire life I have been fascinated with film and commercials. As a kid, I would stop what I
was doing to watch a commercial. This has not changed through the years. My goal in life is to
work in the film industry and work with video. This may have developed from my brother's short
term love for the video arts. Like most little brothers I followed in his footsteps through a lot of
things and most of them would not stick. As I grew older I developed my own different ideals and
likes. But, video just stuck with me. Even if film production doesn't work out I have always had a
childlike excitement for fighting fires. Being the person to save the day is something that everybody

What is even crazier is that he had a very low GPA. In contrast to all this, a film degree will help
immensely. It will let you work on better paying and more glamorous jobs. This may sound
contradictory but, one of the greatest screenwriter of all time, Steven Spielberg, did not have a
degree of any sort in video production. He didn't even make an attempt to go to film school.
Regardless, I will be attending a college with a film degree program to further my education.
At my school we have a broadcasting arts program. This program specializes in radio, video, and
audio arts. We learn many different techniques to work in a field involving journalism,
broadcasting, and video production. Unfortunately this program is shutting down next year due
to various reasons. At first this was a huge upset to me because I didn't think I could get my 6
credits which would help get financial aid and get into college. To my surprise, I learned that the
school board would pay for us to go to butler tech. They have specialized programs in video
production which would look much better than my prior broadcasting arts class on a college
application. But, for now the broadcasting arts program will still do me good. We work closely
with TV Hamilton and they always want us to help out with shoots and projects that they do. This

My Favorite Movie Essay
As 2016 draws to its inevitable close, it's time for me to look back on the (literally) hundreds of
movies I've seen this year and decide which ten were my absolute favorites. A heady task, I know–
but someone who calls himself "The Black Saint" has gotta do it. And since I'm the only person
around here in the depths of Gruesome Manor that answers to that name, I guess that task falls to me.
But before I get to the final ten, I'd like to give shout outs to some films that I enjoyed out of the
horror genre. Films like Deadpool, which took the whole superhero genre and freshened it in a most
ribald, hilarious and unexpected way. Captain America: Civil War is pretty much my favorite
superhero movie so far, I loved its intrigue, action, and flat out incredible battle scenes. Having the
Black Panther and Spider–Man in the mix didn't hurt any either. Marvel films went 3 for 3 this year
with the release of Doctor Strange, which (in IMAX 3D) was the first superhero film to actually
make me feel like I was in another dimension. A real experience to witness in the IMAX format.
Getting back to the horror genre, Green Room was one of the most harrowing films of the year for
sure, with scenes of violence that still make me wince when I think of them. Larry Kent's She Who
Must Burn is more morality tale than horror film, but it's scenes of horror are about as potent as any

Film production is the process of making a film starting from the story or idea through scriptwriting,
shooting to the distribution of the movie to the audience. There are four main phases involved in
film making.

In the development phase, the film is written from the story (Cones, p. 195). The story may come
from a book, a play, another film or an original idea developed by the film producer. During the
development of the film, the film producer works in corroboration with the film writers to develop

There are remarkably multiple amazing movies to choose from.If I had to pick 10 of the greatest
films of all time they would include suspense and action. The list of movies that I have picked out
are in my opinion the greatest films of all time. In the cinema, there are hundreds and hundreds of
memorable moments and scenes from many films. The reason behind this is because the ten movies
that I have picked out have compelled me to ''relive'' the moment. Therefore they give me a memory
that I will hold on to.
If a movie changes you mine it's not because of your reasoning it's because of your emotions that
you feel towards the movie. My 10 greatest films must be films that fascinate me and pull me in
quickly. They need to embezzle my attention and keep me entertained at all times.

1) Moana
After seeing this movie multiple times, this movie is by far my favorite film. It's not because it is a
disney film or even a kids movie it's because all the elements in this movie was well executed. The
animation of this film was done beautifully and done with great detail. In the film you can tell how
much time and effort was put in and how the animators took the time to work on each section of
the movie. The soundtrack of moana was beautifully written and composed. Another reason that
moana is my number one movie is because she is not a princess. In the movie she is trained to be
the chief and wants be for her island and her people.In addition to that the characters in the film that
we encounter are very compelling. We watch them change, and grow and react throughout the
movie. Lastly, the story was very strong Moana had conflicts, and goals and knew how to overcome
the conflicts to get to her goals.
2) The Hunger Games
One of the main reasons why I chose The Hunger Games as my second choice is because it is a
very intense and suspenseful movie. In this film what I really liked was that there was love, loss
and explosion. You never knew what was going to happen which I enjoyed because I knew it was
going to be a very superb movie. The actors and actresses in this movie were picked out
marvelously. Each character in this movie played their part as if the Hunger Games existed. The

Many elements of the film Life is Beautiful can compare to the Bible. For example, Guido, the main
character, acts as a Christ figure in that he saves his son, Joshua from the evils of the Holocaust.
Another example that compares with the Bible is the tank that is promised to Joshua. Finally, Guido's
death eventually saves Joshua from his own death. Such examples in the movie are comparable to

eternal life. Christians believe that at the end of their life they will join God in heaven and have

heaven to Joshua. He works to win the tank by participating in a "contest". At the end of the film,

on to amuse Joshua. Similarly, after Jesus was condemned to death, soldiers led him to the hill
where he would eventually die. Jesus did not resist. As Jesus marched to his death, he comforted

Catherine Deane, played by Jennifer Lopez, is a child psychologist involved in an experimental
project that allows her to travel inside the mind of coma victims to try to draw them away from
their fears and thus out of their coma. This movie portrays the journey inside the mind much like
you would depict a dream. When Deane is inside a young child, whose main concern seems to be
a fear of the ?boogie man?, the world she enters is a beautiful desert scene where the sky is bright
blue with puffy white clouds. She is always dressed in bright white dresses and seems to glow.
This depicts that she has earned the child?s trust. All color is brighter in this dreamlike world.
Even though these experiments had not been successful bringing the child out of the coma, Dean
was able to learn a lot about the child. This caused a couple of detectives to approach her about
entering the mind of a serial killer who had slipped into a coma with the goal of discovering the

Imagine hearing your alarm clock start to buzz and you turn to look at the clock, the time reads
4am. You get up, have a quick breakfast, and get dressed for work. By the time you end up back at

In 1922 the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics became a state as a result a catalyst for Soviet
cinema. Highly censored even after Stalin 's death, it was seen as a communist propaganda tool, yet
hardly funded when it commenced. The popularity of imported and old Russian films in cinemas
soon increased, this lead the way for emerging soviet directors to produce new films.
This movement although censored by the government, wanted to be free to experiment with film as
an art form. A method of this, was viewing editing as a tool instead of a necessity.Sergei Eisenstein
is one of the key directors and theorist in soviet film; the work of Vsevolod Pudovkin also. Both used
the freedom of editing, to create new exciting theories of montage, to which can be seen in

Implementing their theories in films, Soviet cinema was changed drastically. Primarily Eisenstein
examined montages to evoke emotion whereas Pudovkin to create meaning and impression; neither
had been done before. Their theories although different when analysed similarities do appear.
Through production of his own films and his essays, Eisenstein developed theories on montage; this
practice was considered as 'methods of montage ' (Goodwin,1993: 116). This consisted of five main
devices, which can be rendered as implements in montages; Metric, Rhythmic, Tonal, Overtonal and

You know when you go to the movies and you see a great film, it wasn't just like that. There is a
long process to make a film. There is one person that has the most responsibility in make a film and
that is the director. He plays an important role because he is not just telling people what to do and
make sure that they're doing their job. The director has to set up the film and while shooting it, he
has to get the film to be perfect. The director also has to find the actors, do a shot list, and also
find a location to shoot at. So my claim is that directors don't just tell people what to do and where
to put stuff. Directors are in every stage of the process of making a film. Directors secure clients, set

edit of the film all while they are on the set directing. Coordinating all of these steps is difficult

Ideologies refer to a certain belief system that an individual, group or society has, a system which
is driven by values and principles (Kellner 1991; Hughes 2017). It can be argued that since every

the attention of the viewer. We learn that Jim owes Pando $10,000 for which he will soon be
killed, we learn that Jim will give Pando $15.000 if he lets him go ("I'm doing a job tomorrow. Let
me go and I'll give you 15"), we learn that Pando is willing to give Jim a chance by letting him try
013, and that Pando really doesn't want to have to kill him but it seems like he has little choice

The next section of the opening sequence takes us back to what is seemingly the beginning of the
film, to the heart of King's Cross. Jim is standing out the front of a strip joint with a friend of his. It
seems the two are employed by the club to entice male passer–buyers into the club. Through their
dialogue the viewer can deduce that Jim intends on doing some work for someone name Pando,
who incidentally is someone 'you don't want to get mixed up with'. The viewer may also conclude
that Jim is unhappy with his current line of work and wishes to move up through the King's Cross

scripts to look for. This is very important for a beginning small movie director since the reader will
most likely be writing their own scripts to get some recognition. A script is a document that

of film spans over one hundred years ago, with classical narrative emerging in Hollywood around the

the internet, the twenty–first century has become accustomed to skimming, and flipping between

one subject for a long period of time is diminishing. This has contributed to the popularity of
non–linear films in the twenty–first century as many people are finding the suspense more pleasing
than the classical narrative structure. This shifting of structure can also greatly help to portray how
we remember things.
Memory is our ability to store, retain and recall information and experiences. As memories are not
always accurate and different points of view can lead to different interpretation of situations, stories
are often complicated and therefore can be difficult to portray in a linear fashion. Non–linear
narratives, especially perceptible in thriller or detective films, provide bursts of memories, and
previously accumulated emotions, in order to place the viewer in the characters

Importance Of Short Films
Short films are a form of visual media that portray a message or story in a shorter amount of time as
other forms of media such as feature films. The length of a short film can vary from 2 to 40 minutes,
although most short films maintain a time under ten minutes. This is enough time to introduce and
conclude a simple idea in a complex visual format while still holding the audience's attention. I use
short films as; a form of entertainment, an organisation advantage and a mindful activity. A good
short film should able to provoke the same emotions as a feature film in a smaller amount of time.
This is especially helpful during times where I find myself with less free time.
The reason in which a short film is made, often gives it's certain characteristics, that separate short
films into smaller sub categories. Short films by filmmakers who look to turn their idea into a
feature length film, often leave their stories open ended and the plot slightly vague. This is to
appeal to investors as the main audience. Filmmakers who make films as a hobby often put more
detail into the story and characters of their short films, these short films often invoke the most
emotion in audiences, as the target audience isn't investors but people looking to enjoy a well made
short film. These films made for an audience are the short films that I enjoy most and find myself
interacting more with.

1922 saw the transformation to official statehood of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republic – shortly
after, this also served as a catalyst for Soviet cinema. Highly censored even after Stalin 's death,
Soviet cinema was seen as a communist propaganda tool, despite its lack of funding during its initial
commencement period. The popularity of imported and old Russian films in cinemas soon
increased, paving the way for emerging Soviet directors to produce new films.
This movement, although censored by the government, wanted to be free to experiment with film as
an art form. A method of this was viewing editing as a tool instead of a necessity. BothSergei
Eisenstein and Vsevolod Pudovkin are key directors and theorists of the Soviet film industry who
used the freedom of editing to create new exciting theories of montage which have been
implemented globally. The adoption of such theories drastically changed the state of Soviet cinema.
Eisenstein primarily examined montages to evoke emotion whilst Pudovkin focused more on
creating meaning and impression; neither had been done before. Their theories, although different
when analysed, do hold certain similarities.
Through production of his own films and his essays, Sergei Eisenstein (1898–1948) developed
theories on montage; this practice was considered as 'methods of montage ' (Goodwin, 1993:116).

Native Americans express their voice in films by incorporating their history, culture and traditions
for Indigenous purpose. These independent cinema efforts are produced by filmmakers who want to
tell a story about their tribes around the world and educate the younger generations. Zacharias
Kunuk, filmmaker of Antantarjuat; The Fast Runner and Journals of Knud Rasmussen, "compels
non–Inuit spectators to think differently, not only about what constitutes indigenous content in films
and more conventional representations of Native Americans in cinematic history, but also about
indigenous visual Aesthetics" (Raheji 1168).
Kunuk's first film, Fast Runner, starts with the camp leader, Kumaglak, in a spiritual battle with an
evil shaman that entered the community of Inuit. The senior loses the battle and perishes
unexpectedly. Next in line to be the leader of the camp is Tulimaq, but the evil shaman removed
the necklace and handed it to his rival Sauri. Once he was chosen, he denied Tulimaq and his family
of everything, only receiving portions to barely keep the family of four alive.
As time went on the family fought hard to stay alive. Tulimaq and his wife gave most of their food

Atanarjuat, The Fast Runner was based on an Inuit legend of love and revenge. The Journals of Knud
Rasmussen shows us the end of shamanism and the arrival of Christianity. If the protagonist of Fast
Runner Atanarjuat had been able to react to the Iglulik Christians at the end of The Journals of
Knud Rasmussen, he could have provided them with different pieces of advice. From the film
Fastrunner, Atanarjuat is the definition of a person who is has indigenous spiritual practices and
beliefs. His values do not include having power over people, only respecting and living by Inuit
traditions to pass on to future generations. The hero would remind Aua of past Inuit people and to
