Academic Motivation And Career Development
Academic motivation and skills: As they explore their career interests and options, youth increase
their understanding of the value and relevance of formal education to pursuing their career goals.
This increases their academic motivation and engagement which leads to increased academic skills.
Leadership skills: Youth develop leadership by taking the lead in their personal career development
process.
Social skills and positive relationships: By working with their family, school or youth program staff,
counselors, mentors, and other significant adults, youth practice communicating and other
interpersonal skills while building a support network.
Work readiness skills: Youth receive training and opportunities to practice a wide ... Show more

Learning how to find and analyze the information one needs to make his or her own decisions
enhances a young person's agency and sense of autonomy. Career planning and management skills,
overall, help young people become more self–determined, enhancing their ability to make decisions,
plan how to achieve goals, and carry out as well as revise their plan. This builds confidence, self–
esteem, and a sense of responsibility.
Engaging Youth with Disabilities
As your organization assists all youth to develop their career development skills, it is essential to
take into consideration and address additional needs of youth with disabilities. Whether their
disabilities are apparent or not, all youth programs serve some youth with disabilities. While the
presence of physical and intellectual disabilities may be obvious to staff, other youth may have
learning disabilities, mental health disabilities, or chronic health conditions that aren't readily visible
but still warrant consideration. Youth with any type of disability may require or benefit from
accommodations or support to participate in youth programs. Youth development and leadership
programs need to be physically and cognitively accessible for youth with disabilities. Ensuring that
programs are cognitively accessible means ensuring that youth with learning and intellectual
disabilities, as well as those with lower literacy skills, can understand what's being communicated
verbally, nonverbally, and

Debate On Rewarding
Abate's "Participation Trophies Send a Powerful Message"
Rewarding is the best source of motivation, not only for adults but also for the younger stars
engaging in a competition; many people grow with this statement in mind and use the notion as a
piece of advice that should allow conditioning of hard work in any contest (Wrobel 401–421). One
of the people who believe that only winners should be rewarded for their efforts, author Parker
Abate, wrote In Youth Sports, "Participation Trophies Send a Powerful Message," published in
October 2016 in New York Times. He argues that while not all participants win a competition,
working with the members of the team with an objective of receiving victory teaches them a lesson
that in life it is important ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
"This is why the trophies that are given to less–talented athletes who participate in youth sports do
not have to say '1st Place,' 'M.V.P.,' or 'Champion.' These young athletes should be honored in lesser
ways, and all deserve to feel some form of accomplishment" (Abate). These facts introduce and
support the idea that the participants of the youth competitions should be awarded as a way of
reducing humiliation and underrating of the younger people who especially do not know whether

Have Youth Sports Become Too Intense?
With youth sports competitive rate increasing, the amount of injuries is increasing right along with
it. Youth sports are taken to an all new level in today's society. Most sports are played to win and not
for fun now a days. This country would be improve tremendously if youth sports would just be
played the sports for fun, not be punished for doing the wrong thing and pushed to where injury
comes into play.
Kids off over this country participate in sports and usually have parents volunteered as their
coaches. In the article called "Have Youth Sports Become Too Intense?" the authors Mark Hyman
and Nathan Pitcock says, "74 percent of the kids surveyed said they had witnessed out–of–control
adults at their games" (Hyman and Ptcock). Out of

Youth Service Proposal
I am a very active individual within my church however we do not currently have a youth services
program. This has become very popular and common in my area therefore I feel it is important to
implement a youth outreach program at my church. Drift Pentecostal Church is an adult–driven
church that has dissipated in youth over the last 10 years. Drift Pentecostal Church has not had a
youth program since the early 70 's. The program has dwindled to a mere once a week Sunday
School class that is separated by ages. With each year, the enrollment has diminished thereby
leaving our church with only 20 youth members ranging from ages 2–18 years of age. Of these
individuals, approximately 80 percent are under the age of 10. Although the pastor is very effective
at bringing in new members, it is still important to target the youth in our society today. The most
important reason, schools are no longer allowing God in their programs. With the constant fight for
separation of church and state, the youth are suffering. The importance of developing a youth
program is critical in order to drive our youth into the churches and into God 's hands. In an article
written by Mark Howard, he wrote, "the youth are restless, insecure, jaded, and desperately
searching for meaning to explain all the hurt and suffering they see around them, meaning for their
very existence," therefore what the youth need most is the gospel of Christ Jesus. He is the one who
gives meaning to this life. In a study

Simply having a job at all is the limit of their ambition. The low aspirations of these working class
young people embed the status quo. These young people see nothing wrong with their life plans and
were, for the most part, perfectly happy with their lot in life. Most of the young people come from
homes where money is tight and only a few of them sport the latest trainer or gadget.
The school system supports the dominant ideology, Kingsmeadow is classed by Ofsted (2010) as a
good school, even though, the Governments own league table place Kingsmeadow School second to
bottom in educational attainment within the Borough.
These young people are generally happy at school, the atmosphere is pleasant and reasonably
respectful but exam results are poor. Gramsci would state that the education system was enabling the
hegemonic ideology by consent and perpetrating the false consciousness that this level of attainment
and aspiration is normal and entirely appropriate for these young people. Neither student, parent,
teacher, governor nor the wider community appear to challenge the status quo.
Young people from higher social classes are enabled to succeed and to have higher aspirations from
early childhood. Access to higher attaining schools, being able to pay for private education, or being
able to move house to be close to a better school; involvement in extracurricular activities, such as

This effect trickle down to the woman in the village, whom all she had known to do all her life is to
combine many things together at the same time, like carrying a breastfeeding baby on her laps, using
one hand to blow the fire she created with woods which she is using to cook for her family, using
the other hand to stir the cassava flour on fire, and at the same time, weaving a basket at intervals.
She has it in mind to sell the basket in the market on the next market day. How pathetic it will be for
her to go through all that stress, and at the end of the day she loses the profits to a hooligan who was
actually turned a hooligan by the youth unemployment crisis. At the other extreme, a rich man in the
city gets a large amount of money from a contract and could not deposit it in the bank that day
because the money came late and banks had closed for the day. He prayerfully takes the money
home to deposit it first thing the following morning. That same night, "Mr. Smart Guy" comes with
a "team" of others to rob the rich man of his money. At the same time, in between the two extremes,
lies the average civil servant who stays at home one evening with his family watching a family
programme on TV. The entire neighbourhood was actually dark due to power outage. The family
only had an exclusive interest in the programme and managed to put on their generating set in order
not to miss the program. This was around 8.00pm.

Youth Social Work
You're a Youth Social Worker called out to a school to assess a child. Once in front of the child they
say "I want to kill myself and never go back". As a Youth Social worker in today's society, you never
know what's going to come across your desk. You wonder, what are you going to see or hear when
talking to them? How do you help? Will you be able to gain their trust? Will you be able to handle
the stress? These are some of the questions that will be addressed. As a youth counselor you're
responsible for providing daily case management and the overall wellbeing of your clients. Those
duties could include but not be limited to : counseling girls whose behavior, school progress, or
mental or physical condition indicates need for assistance. For example, meeting in a one on one
session and small groups to discuss progress and issues. Monitoring ... Show more content on

Being that one may be called any time of day to deal with a situation may put a strain on home life.
The supply and demand of work and home life may begin to be too much. Case load may be more
than one person is supposed to handle and you feel like someone is going to fall between the cracks
because you didn't get to them in time. Dealing with a crisis, one is putting themselves at risk of
being harmed. In a 2008 article, psychologist John M. Grohol states that counselors working in
urban and low–income areas are more at risk as violence rates are higher in these areas. For
example, you come to work and 5 more cases have been added to the 10 you already have. Before
you even get to look over the new files because you haven't finished the first ones, you find out that
one of your new cases has committed suicide. She was a young girl who was pregnant and just
feeling worthless. Now you're thinking "only if I had had more time to get to her file". With all these
stresses, one may begin to question if this is their calling, but there are ways of dealing with these

Do Youth Curfews Really Work?
Youth Curfews Do youth curfews really work? With crime rate rising daily in many cities, more
counties and cities are introducing new youth curfew laws to keep the youth out of the street after a
certain time. The issue of adopting curfew laws has become more popular as parents are more
concern about their kids' safety during night time. Although parents and the cities have good
intentions to cut the rate of crimes by proposing youth curfew laws, there are several unintended
consequences that lead youth curfew laws into a public disservice. Teen curfew are designed to keep
the teenagers safe at night while keeping the crime rate low, it's not designed to limit the rights of
teenagers. With most crimes occur during night time, it is reasonable to say that it is more dangerous
on the street when it's night time. Many support imposing a curfew for youth as they believe that it
will reduce juvenile crime and victimization. However, some might argue that youth curfew laws set
limits on parents 'decisions.
Due to the fat that curfew laws do encourage teenagers to be home sleeping when it's night time,
curfew laws do help control the pace of teenager's lives while making sure they are not exposed to
more danger during night time. As there are less people around during night time, the crime right is
most likely to be higher when compared to day time. According to the Archive of Tucson Citizen, it
states that "there are kids killing people and committing a variety of other

Different Influences That Affect The Way We Grow, Think,...
The world has many different influences that affect the way we grow, think, and act. It is interesting
how some people from the same background and upbringing can become completely different
people simply by the people they associate with. Psychologically association can be one of the best
or worst things that can happen to someone. Depending on the type of association can determine
which road you go down in life. Choices like this start at a very young age, such as grade school to
high school.
When in school, most establish the type of associations that they want to have around them around
elementary years. If they have someone dressing a certain way then they will tend to change the way
that are dressing. The way they dress, talk, walk, and treat others will start to become something that
rubs off on you. Just like having a bad influence, others can have a great impact on those around
them such as manners, respect, and the ways they speak, walk, and talk. If those around you are
setting a good example of how to act then this is what should be followed.
. Even in today's world social media plays a large part in pushing what success is when speaking
about role models. The proper role models for youth are not deemed as successful and are not shown
on social media or television. This makes it hard from day one for those who see something such as
a positive example because it does not seem to be the most poplar way in school. Students in the
earlier years are easier

The Importance Of Youth Ministry
The education of youth is important because all our thinking and action should begin with God.
Because young people are highly relational, Christian doctrine is critical for effective youth
ministry. To study Jesus is to learn about good relationships and how to relate. Relevant youth
ministry must copy His style and the way He ministered to others. An educational based youth
ministry to young people points to the person of Jesus Christ: his life, teachings and work for us.
The best way to transfer information, skills, and biblical values to young people so they may be
effective Christian decision makers is to emphasize the critical thinking–the ability to "learn how to
learn." Those of us in youth ministry should understand and employ these techniques in educational
ministries. With critical thinking skills, young people will have the tools they need to successfully
navigate the seas over which they will travel.
Chapter Seven: Transforming the Mind, 2 (feelings)
Youth ministry's focus is to intentionally help each young person develop a foundation of spiritual
maturity with Jesus Christ. The process of a teenager becoming a responsible Christian adult is
when they lose interest in childish behaviors and focus on the Lord's will allowing the Spirit to lead
them into a servant's role.
Chapter nine: Transforming the Body
Spiritual transformation requires the transformation of the body because the flesh is weak, I must
not let my body parts control my actions. Christian

Explain The Key Concepts Of Youth Work And Community...
This essay will define the key concepts of Youth, Community and Society, explaining what Youth
Work and Community Development are, and identifying various social categories that are important
to this work. This essay will define the differing perspectives of youth and how class and age
discrimination impact this. It will examine the different models of practice and reflect on challenges
that may be faced when going into practice. Thus, showing how practitioners work effectively in
this area and using relevant research to support this.
Age is the easiest way to define 'youth' as being the period between childhood and adulthood. This is
specified, by the United Nations and World Bank, as a person between the ages of 15 and 24. This

Sapin (2009:3) establishes that "youth work practice promotes change and development through a
commitment to relationships based on respect for young people, listening to them and mutual
learning'". The Federation of Community Development Learning's definition of community work is
similar to this as it centres active involvement and relationships between individuals and groups to
shape their lives and experiences. This approach emphasises action based on reflection and on the
relationship between practitioner and client. Davies (2005) set out seven direct commitments for
Youth Work, most of which also apply to the works of Community Development. These are:
voluntary participation; tipping the balance of power in their favour; starting where the client is at
and responding to their expectations; offering new experiences and challenging activities; working
on and from their territory to include their interests, activities and styles and emotional concerns;
respecting and working through their peer networks. The one principle that cannot be applied to
Community Development is 'responding to young people as young people and not pre–set adult
imposed labels' which is very significant in youth work in order to respect and value a young person
as an individual and work with developing their own needs and goals. As shown, the two
professions do interlink in more ways than one especially as young people belong to and form the
community. This is supported by Sapin (2009) who recognises that youth workers help to shape the
lives of young people they work with, which in turn, will shape the futures of their own

the poster. When the group first entered the room and read the task, the group started to focus on
what needed to be done, the group progressed well however when the task started to get more
involved, it was clear that some voices were being heard, and some being ignored. It would have
been necessary at this point to introduce ground rules. However on reflection and given the direction
that the group took it would have been a more productive step to introduce some basic ground rules

this group where roles have already been developed, certain members will carry more influence than
others, but trying to re assign these roles for equal participation could potentially cause problems. In
this group there is one individual who usually has a lot of influence and is always participating.
Watching the video it is clear that his usual role is being taken over by other members of the group.
The responses from Jeff towards the task were negative; this may have been because he was lost i.e.
his normal place in the group was being taken over by other members. His usual power within the
group was not as prominent and because of this it may have affected his willingness to accept the
task, the facilitator recognising this could have done several things, by directing questions towards
the withdrawing participant it directs focus back on to him, through doing this it may have nudged
him back into the group discussion. At the same time as doing this the facilitator would have to be

Preparing Youth For The World Of Work
Preparing Youth for the World of Work
Bronfenbrenner's ecological model of human development is a useful framework for examining a
young person's career development. Each system provides an opportunity for intervention and
exploration to occur. Family, school, peers and the workplace are all microsystem levels where
career development can take root. This exposure may be very limited, or be part of intentional
exploration, such as high school career–technical programs and internships. Microsystem
interaction, such as between school and work, is a key component to youth transitions and reveals a
mesosystem impact. Exosystem and macrosystem influences should also be considered, but are
areas in which the youth or youth professionals have less control. So, it is at the mesosystem level
that transitions to career can logically be best addressed (Journal of Youth and Adolescence, 1983).
Working with adolescents on the micro and macro levels is the appropriate way for youth to become
prepared for the world of work and the accompanying responsibilities of this transition (Shanahan,
Moritmer and Kruger, 2002). Based on Bronfenbrenner's model, school systems and workplaces are
appropriate places for youth to seek out and receive career development opportunities. However,
this is not necessarily the case for contemporary youth. Many young people are leaving high school
unprepared for the transition to career (The Forum for Youth Investment, 2006; W. Gates, 2005;

Youth Work Philosophy Statement
Over 25 years ago, I walked through the doors of a youth conference as a young instructor excited at
having the chance to teach and reach young people for Christ. I begin to scan the room looking for
the person in charge. To my amazement I was directed to a 92 year old lady who was frantically
moving about the room trying to gain some degree of control. As the chaos found some resemblance
of order, we begin our adventure of trying to teach the youth about Christ. Unfortunately, there had
been no preparation, curriculum, or direction. Our sole instruction was, "teach them whatever you
teach at your church". This is often a predicament that many youth workers face, which leads to
teaching without goals, objective, or a clear vision, in other ... Show more content on

Although I have been afforded many opportunities to teach youth workers across the state and even
on a National level, I believe that pursuing a degree in Biblical studies with a concentration on youth
work would greatly benefit not only my personal ministry, but help other youth workers, and
ultimately our youth which would help them develop a closer relationship with Christ, and live
according the purpose God has called them to. Many youth workers have been brought up believing
that the ways we've reached and taught youth in the past will continue to work for generations to
come. This is not true. As the hymn writer, Charles Wesley wrote, "A charge to keep I have, A God
to glorify, A never–dying soul to save, and fit it for the sky. To serve the present age, my calling to
fulfill: O may it all my powers engage to do my master's will! We must be mindful that what we had
to deal with does not compare to what this generation faces from day to day. We did not grow up in

Growing Fears As A Youth Leader
Facing Your Fears as a Youth Leader
About three years ago, I was sat in an office telling my Gap Year Supervisor that I'd love to do a gap
year with my local Youth For Christ centre, provided that I only had to do background stuff like
admin etc. Not, under any circumstance, did I want to come into contact with any actual front of
house youth work or young person of any sort. One year later I was wearing a sumo suit while
flinging myself at one of the young people in an attempt to knock them out of the circle in a sumo
wrestling fight to end all fights. Granted I'm a young youth worker (only been in the business three
years) but I feel I have a little bit of authority on the subject of conquering fears, considering that my
fear was one of the biggest and most ridiculous fear that can hinder any other youth worker of any
age– I was terrified of teenagers. Now, before you laugh, I think we can all agree that teenagers can
be flipping scary. They decide what (and who) is cool this year, half of them think they're smarter
than they are and the other half are smarter than you so don't even try. They can be scathing and
have the ability to make you question every life choice you have ever made with one sarcastic
comment. All that said, those are also the reasons why we love them so much. Whatever it is, be it
young people themselves or something entirely different, every single youth worker in the world has
fears, and those fears, no matter how big or small, have the

It is not our goal to "trade" members neither with other churches nor to increase our membership by
reaching disgruntled members of other churches. Our vision is to reach young people who may not
have a "church" background, teach and train them, equip them, and qualify them to go out and win
souls. We believe that by doing this, we will build a strong army who can take our community, state,
and the world for Christ. We want to reach young people ages 10–18 in our community. According
to Warren, "If you want to build a healthy, strong, and growing church you must spend time laying a
solid foundation."
Values
Our values are Righteous living, as exemplified by a lifestyle congruent with biblical and moral
guidelines, spiritual enrichment, as exemplified through our School of Ministry, fortifying the
family, as exemplified by marriage, single, and youth ministries, economic support, as exemplified
by our contributions through tithe, offerings, and time, and alliance of believers, as exemplified
through prayer, worship, and servitude.
Within these values, there is the element of youth ministries. Several key verses are the basis of this

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Indian Youth
It is not like that Indian Youths have negative sides only. People generally talk about negative side
only and nobody emphasis on positive side. Very less is discussed about positive sides of youths.
There is tremendous power, remarkable and ample positive side that Indian youths possess. Positive
sides need to be noticed, discussed and encouraged every day. It is necessary to arm our youth with
the relevant knowledge and skill that will convert this mammoth potential to desired results.
Let's have a look to some of Indian young entrepreneurs, students and officers who has created
wonderful path for them and achieved outstanding success. May be you haven't heard their name or
achievement.

Rohit Bansal and Kunal Bahl are Co–Founders of Snapdeal. Initially, Snapdeal started as a portal for
online deals. But the duo has loftier ambitions. It soon grew to become one of India's largest online
market places.

Carol Stuart 's Foundations Of Child And Youth Care
Growing up, I was extremely fortunate to have a parent who embodied all of the characteristics
listed in Carol Stuart's "Foundations of Child and Youth Care" including passion, caring, space and
time, and social competence. My mother has always been my main role model, caregiver, friend,
and always treated me with the upmost respect and patience, and together we built a relationship
based on trust and mutual appreciation. We would often go on long walks together, using this as a
therapeutic milieu for storytelling and the cultivation of unbiased advice. For me, it was important to
analyze the world outside of my own head and share in the mutual struggles of daily life with
someone who understood or, at the very least listened, as I analyzed, experienced, and complained
about the world. For the better part of my life, I did not see this as therapeutic or its relation to child
and youth work, rather assuming all parents were capable of , and expressed, this kind of love to
some degree. However, it was only by watching my friends wrestle with issues such as depression,
anxiety, and body image that I realized the isolation and loneliness that can easily overcome a
person without a proper role model or guidance and more importantly, that this presence is not
guaranteed in everyone's life. Through experiences with my friends and mother, I am familiar with
being on either side of a therapeutic situation, acknowledged the vital role of it in personal
development and decided to

Youth Works Response to Alcohol Consumption among Young...
Current responses
For the purposes of this research chapter I shall be exploring youth works response to the issue of
alcohol consumption among young people today. According to the Youth Work Act 2001;
"Youth work" means a planned programme of education designed for the purpose of aiding and
enhancing the personal and social development of young persons through their voluntary
participation, and which is–
(a) Complementary to their formal, academic or vocational education and training; and
(b) Provided primarily by voluntary youth work organisations.
Youth workers achieve this by creating circumstances which enable young people to feel
comfortable with themselves, make and sustain personal relationships, reach their potential and find
their place in society. Due to the nature of their work, youth workers form close relationships with
the young people they engage with. These relationships are central to the youth work process. It is
essentially a partnership, which allows the young people space to express themselves and provides
an opportunity for learning which they may otherwise ignore. By utilising this relationship youth
workers can offer essential support to the young people during the crucial stages of their
development by befriending them, listening to them and advocating on their behalf. The importance
of this relationship does not change when working with young people around issues such as alcohol.
In fact, in many ways it actually benefits the facilitation of the

Green Winter Through The Kick Starter Website
In efforts to grow the Seedfolk City Farm, Barker initiated Operation Green Winter through the
kick–starter website, Indiegogo. This was a community–focused urban agriculture project that
helped raise funds to continue operating the greenhouses during the winter. It also enabled them to
provide consistent year–round after–school employment for four of the young people that helped to
get the project off the ground. This campaign was in addition to several community events held in
efforts to raise money for the "green winter". This was as a result of weather implications in
Rochester, NY, which prevented them from growing fresh fruits and vegetables. The pilot aquaponic
farming system would "winterize" the greenhouse by sustaining a year–round farming operation that
enabled them to triple production capabilities with four new vertical grow beds. Not only did the
money raised help physically make these changes possible, but it also provided the youth with more
after school activities as a result of these expansions.
ProsperRochester has relied on its partnerships to achieve its goals. In order to establish these
greenhouses, ProsperRochester teamed up with In The City/Off The Grid. ICOG is a Rochester–
based cooperative business that offers solar installation services and general construction services,
while engaging in community development projects and employee training. Thankfully, ICOG was
able to assist with building and provide solar panels for the greenhouses.

of the most commonly used. Youth account for almost 20% of Australian's total population and this
equates to over 4.2 million people. In order for young individuals to achieve wellbeing their needs

A part of this is the Youth Employment Package, similar to the 2015 Youth Employment Strategy, it
aims to give youth the employability skills that employers want, opportunities for work experience
and the support to move from welfare support to employment. $840.3 million was allocated to the
Youth Employment Package and this is a $510 million increase from 2015. The increase of money
allocated to address the area of youth unemployment displays that the government recognizes the
extent of the issue and that more services will assist in addressing the issue. The Encouraging
Entrepreneurship and Self–Employment Initiative is an outcome of the Youth Employment Package.
The initiative aims to assist young people create their own job by starting a small business. One
service that is provided is the 'Exploring Being My Own Boss' workshop. The two–week workshop
gives up to 1000 young people a taste of what is involved in self–employment and entrepreneurship.
The strategies that the Australian Government have put forward to assist youth in gaining
employment are not guaranteed to solve youth unemployment however, by collaborating with and
encouraging youth they are much more likely to seek employment therefore improve youth
unemployment. These strategies should be viewed as a 'hand up' rather than a 'hand out'. By
providing youth with employment services, youth unemployment will see improvement while
offering unemployed youth subsidies will only encourage unemployment as they will be able to

Ethnicity and the Juvenile Justice System
Often times, people in America understand that minority youths are excessively represented in the
justice system. Unfortunately, this occurs at every level of the justice system. Not only does it occur
in from initial contact with the police, it continues through incarceration. In many cases, young
juvenile minority are being discriminated, they come from corrupted developing countries with high
levels of crime, and the majority of white youths are from wealthy families.
Most young juveniles are constantly being discriminated due to their ethnic background. The 14th
Amendment to the United States Constitution has been construed to translate that discrimination
based on traits such as race are a violation of due process (cite). According to
www.futurechildren.org, "the NCCD finds that black youth are more likely than white youth to be
formally charged and sentenced to out–of–home placement for the same offense"
(futurechildren.org). 50 percent of drug cases involve white youth results in formal processing.
More than 75 percent of drugs cases involve many African American youth result in formal
processing. Many of the studies show that black youth are given more restrictive dispositions than
white youth, even when they have committed the same offence and have the same prior record
(www.futurechildren.org).
Most of the minority juvenile offenders are more likely to be transferred to adult court than white
offenders even though the same crime was committed. This increases the

Scott and Jean's Icebreaker activities serve several different purposes, the first of which being to
encourage the group to come together as a whole and get to know one another. The initial activity
did a fabulous job of encouraging the youngsters to introduce themselves to their peers in a fun and
non intimidating way. It 'broke the ice' (LGBT Youth Scotland clips 2–6). If the introductions had

Informal education is totally different to the type of education that takes place within schools. Young
people are not taught the objectives defined by a teacher as they would be in a classroom, they are
encouraged to work things out for themselves as an active learner. An educator's role in informal
education is 'to create situations in which young people can identify their own goals for learning'
(Mackinnon, 2013 p13). In this instance (LGBT activity) the students were placed in small groups
and given the agenda i.e. where they would like Peer Education to be in two months time. From this
they worked together to discuss and identify the skills and barriers involved in peer education.
However they did not sit in a group around a table as you would expect to find with group activities
taking place in a school, instead they grouped using the furniture and floor space around the room in
an informal manner and discussed issues within their group rather than being directed by Scott or
Jean whose input was merely to work around the groups asking relevant questions to encourage
independent thinking therefore 'the practitioner becomes a facilitator of opportunities in which
young people can work collaboratively on projects or activities' ( Mackinnon, 2013 p13) . Once the
groups had discussed their ideas they relayed what they had learnt as one large group, sometimes
sharing personal experiences which showed how confident and at ease they

The Importance Of Youth Work Activities
During our time studying in the Solomon Islands and Vanuatu critical decisions regarding youth
work practice were made. One of these decisions was staying to wait for our boat to the island of
Savo. Many of the group woke up early to be at the port in time to catch our boat to be told that we
would be waiting at least another hour. During the wait the group found a comfortable spot and
relaxed. After the hour ended the group went back to the port in time to catch the boat however, we
ended up waiting another 45 minutes there as the boat needed fuel. Although waiting in humid 30–
degree heat is difficult, patience and resilience were shown by all group members and it provided an
important learning opportunity for me which I will take into my youth work practice. This wait was
not our first nor last in the Pacific Islands and by the end of the trip I understood what 'island time'
was.
By waiting for the boat without complaint the group embraced the relaxed Pacific Islander culture.
This had positive effects throughout the day as once we had left the port, the day ran smoothly. Any
issue with the wait may have caused tension between the group and Paul or David who were our
tour guides for the day. This was not the first time the group had been kept waiting on the trip,
although we had only been there for a few days. The first was on our initial night in Honiara at the
church, in which the service started 45 minutes to an hour late. During this wait I asked the young

youth workers should involve this community in our everyday youth work. Firstly I would like to

Community Youth Work course but in my own practices. Secondly I would like to talk about the
LGBT meanings and words used. I would to also find out some history of LGBT, when is started
what was used before. Thirdly I would like to find out about laws and legalisations regard the LGBT
community. In order to this I will use relevant theory, Research and policies that I find about the
LGBT community. I will include how the young people who are within the LGBT community are
treated by other young people and other communities. I will include a self–reflection on both a
personal and professional level. I will also like to include any current practices and strategies for
practice development.
When I was grown up as a young person and in my youth club there was "no one" who was gay
everyone acted the same and there was nothing different about the boys or the girls. The word "gay"

The Concepts Of At Risk And Risk Of Young People 's Lives...
Introduction
The concepts of 'at–risk' and 'risk' are prominent in much of the literature on the sociology of youth.
The objective of this essay is to explore the positive and negative sides of focusing on risk in young
people's lives, and contend that although the concepts may help us to understand youth behaviours,
there is a need to be cautious in its implementation, as they carry a number of implicit assumptions.
Firstly, the approaches of 'at–risk' and 'risk taking' are defined; in order to understand the different
ways the concepts are related to young people. These positive aspects include of the identification of
'at–risk' youth for prevention measures and Stephen Lyng's edgework notion to comprehend
individuals' voluntary 'risk taking'. Secondly, discussions the usefulness of the concepts in
promoting our comprehension of young individuals' behaviours are provided. Lastly, limitations of
the approaches are discussed to highlight the precautions needed when applying the concepts, as it
may lead to placing the blame on 'at–risk' youth, higher degree of scrutiny for young women than
their men and the normalised assumption on behalf of the 'risk taking' notion.
The concepts of 'at–risk' and 'risk taking'
There are two main concepts in the literatures of the sociology of youth, which linked risk and
young people together. The first concept is 'at–risk' and the term is often used to identify or describe
young people who, due to difficulties and disadvantaged situations,

Antecedents that influence leadership include factors such as the leader's personality and ethics,
followers' openness, and cultural norms. Furthermore, the leader's behaviors affect the process. For
example, a leader needs to be knowledgeable regarding an organization's goals to effectively address
and handle difficult situations. A servant leader assists followers in achieving purposes. A leader
treats followers fairly and respects personal values. The leader helps followers learn to make
choices. An ideal outcome is a favorable effect on the followers, organization, and community. The
leader can determine which needs will help followers progress and plan to meet those needs through
developing programs or obtaining funding (Northouse, 2016).Servant leadership is important for
management because it affects employee's productivity. While a manager requires work to be
completed and appears unconcerned if an employee has a problem, the servant leader may help a
follower so he or she can work successfully. For example, although a manager may penalize an
employee for arriving late, a servant leader may ask the employee what he or she needs to arrive to
work on time. After the leader and the employee successfully collaborate, the effect is that the
manager is appeased and the employee keeps a job. A servant leader can help employees develop a

Child Sexual Exploitation Essay
All children and young people are potentially at risk of being sexually exploited. Child sexual
exploitation (CSE) is a form of child sexual abuse where an individual or group takes advantage of
an imbalance of power to coerce, manipulate or deceive a child or young person under the age of 18
into sexual activity (a) in exchange for something the victim needs or wants, and/or (b) for the
financial advantage or increased status of the perpetrator or facilitator (New England definition
2017). The Education system via schools, youth services, parental advice have a vital role to play in
reducing the risk by enabling children and young people to explore what makes a safe and healthy

One study found that over half of children with access the internet on a weekly basis have been
exposed to online pornography and almost a third receive unwanted sexual comments via email,
chat, instant message or text. (Livingstone, s and Bober M 2004). There is no one way that CSE is
perpetrated (CEOP, 2011; Berelowitz et al. 2013). Grooming is common in some forms of CSE, but
it is not always present (Beckett, 2011; Melrose, 2013). Online and offline exploitation can overlap
(Fox and Kalkan, 2016). Although CSE can presented itself in different forms youth workers and
educators should be clear that CSE is abuse and in whatever form it presents itself , it still is child
abuse. One thing that is clear, definitions of CSE emphasises exchange and power imbalance. It is
explicit about the power the perpetrator has over the young person or persons they are exploiting,
either through forceful acts or through persuasive techniques that might convince a young person
they are making a 'choice', it is therefore important that practitioners use language that reiterates the
need to look beyond apparent consent, especially as young people may describe exploitative
relationships as consensual or withdraw claims as a result of coercion (Green et al, 2014). Some
young people may be more vulnerable than others and a range of indicators have been highlighted to

Youth And Social Construction
The intricate nature of youth means that while some argue it is a universal stage of life, it is seen by
many as a formation of sociocultural elements. Social construction can be defined as something that
has been shaped by the values, interests or practices of a culture or society and this is evident in the
youth demographic through its revolution in recent years. The markings of youth are social in
formulation; highlighting the way in which young people have been influenced by differing trends
and movements. Youth is a transitional phase, its age bracket extending and blurring; transcending
global divides and traditions. Thus, it is the social context that surrounds youth which suggests that
it is not a universal stage of life. Ultimately, the idea of youth when viewed in a historical and
cultural context as well as in relation to other socially influenced concepts such as adulthood, can be
observed as a social construction.
A Post–First World War occurrence, the concept of youth emerged as a historically comprised
debate in response to the social, political and cultural shifts at the time. Youth became a label used to
categorize a particular age group, with education and perceived life progress used to mark the
unfixed period between childhood and adulthood. It has been suggested that there has been
disruption in the general 'life patterns' for young people present around the time of, or born just after
the First World War (White & Wyn, 2008). The statement is helpful

Group Work Theory And Youth Work Practice
YWU406 (1000words) This essay will define the concepts of groups by making links to both group
work theory and youth work practice. Therefore, the need for group work in a youth work role will
be identified. One definition of the term group is "two or more individuals who are connected to one
another by social relationships" (Forsyth, 2006, p.2–3). This definition suggests that a group is
subject to three elements: the number of individuals involved; connection between the individuals;
and some form of relationship (Smith. 2008) However, this definition is more attributed to either
dyad or triad groups where the connection is purely relationship based. Therefore, a more fitting
definition of group for the 'group of level four Youth and Community Work students at Newman
University' is identified by a list of attributes created by Jarlath Benson. From the attributes she
suggests that groups have three key characteristics: "parts, relationship between the parts, and an
organising principle." (2000, p.5). The organising principle with the class group is a desire to
complete the degree. Turner (1987) and Brown (1999) highlighted that groups exist in relation to
other groups and aren't just entities in their own right. The class group exists in relation to the tutor
group, working groups and friendship groups. There are several different theories about groups and
group work. For this reason, it is contestable and highly problematic to provide an absolute
definition of the

What Youth Work Is And What It Mean To Me?
Youth work practice helps young people learn about themselves, others and society.

What youth work is and what it means to me?
The youth work profession focuses on helping, working and supporting young people. My own
understanding of youth work is it's about empowering and advocating on behalf of young people. I
want to be a youth worker who makes a difference. That means putting a hundred percent into the
work I do with young people. According to Sapin (2009) youth work is defined as 'working with
young people to develop enjoyable activities'. It's defined as addressing young people's needs and
interests. It's achieved through forming voluntary relationship based on mutual respect (Sapin,
2009). Youth work is defined by three main factors (YACVic, 2004).
I believe these factors show exactly what youth work is. The first is young people are the primary
consideration. Young people come first in our type of work. The second factor is young people are
seen in their social context. This means providing young people with an opportunity to interact
within a positive social environment (YACVic, 2004). It also means challenging barriers young
people face in their environment. The last factor is using a holistic approach in youth work. This
factor is about recognizing young people as a whole individual.

Everyone must take responsibility
Everyone must take responsibility
The American education system is heavily under pressure. The Globalisation has changed the
American society dramatically. Throughout the last decades many, especially low–skilled jobs, have
been outsourced to foreign countries. Many low–skilled American workers are simply no longer
able to compete with the cheap labour in foreign countries such as China or Bangladesh. As a
consequence of the increasing globalisation, the American society has throughout the last decades
increasingly focused on education. Even though the American politicians and the society as a whole
are aware of the importance of education, the American education system is facing a lot of
challenges. For example are many young people, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In extension to this should the American youth also start to realize that education is not just about
sitting in a school and listen to teachers. Education can be so much more. Additionally should they
also be told that academic and more practical jobs are equally important for the society.
Even though the American youth first of all should acquire skills for their own sake, are they
nevertheless to a great extent responsible for the future of the US. On the other hand should it
always be clear that the whole thing about education and requiring skills not just is about
maintaining the position of the US as an economic superpower. The American society doesn't need
economic growth and a better–educated youth just for the sake of it. It needs a well–educated youth
because the skills and knowledge they acquire in the lessons might help to cure deadly diseases such
as AIDS or Cancer. In Addition could critical thinking acquired by education in the long run
probably help to fight social challenges such as poverty, crime or homelessness. When it comes to
economic growth is it not just to make certain people rich. That's not a problem at all, as long as
everyone is better of, jobs are being created, and the society is able to take care of them who are in
need.
On the other hand shall the American youth not lift the burden alone. Parents, teachers, government,
businesses and the young people themselves have to cooperate. Parents must motivate their

Malinowski and Finklestein used similar concepts in their field study to acknowledge the depth of
their study rather than using the "armchair approach" (12, 2014). Moreover the ethnographic
methods used by Finklestein in approaching the youth of New York are also displayed in Kristina E.
Gibson's' Street Kids: Homeless Youth, Outreach, and Policing New York's Streets. Both being
women researchers, their approaches were similar in wanting to seek the emotional perspective on
the youth's lives and experiences. Despite that both are women, Gibson uses a more feministic
perspective in her ethnographic approach and she spends a longer duration of time in her study than
Finklestein (2011, Gibson). Marni Finklestein uses methods such as interviewing and approaching
the youth as a professional researcher, on the other hand, Kristina E. Gibson uses the methods of
volunteering as a "street outreach"(2011, Gibson) worker. Gibson created her analysis based on the
human geography, whereas Finklestein based her study on the basis of Anthropology. Although they
both conducted their study by approaching the street kids of New York City, the concepts and the
reasons for their research are different. Finklestein wants to provide information, about how the

Academic Motivation And Career Development

  • 1. Academic Motivation And Career Development Academic motivation and skills: As they explore their career interests and options, youth increase their understanding of the value and relevance of formal education to pursuing their career goals. This increases their academic motivation and engagement which leads to increased academic skills. Leadership skills: Youth develop leadership by taking the lead in their personal career development process. Social skills and positive relationships: By working with their family, school or youth program staff, counselors, mentors, and other significant adults, youth practice communicating and other interpersonal skills while building a support network. Work readiness skills: Youth receive training and opportunities to practice a wide ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Learning how to find and analyze the information one needs to make his or her own decisions enhances a young person's agency and sense of autonomy. Career planning and management skills, overall, help young people become more self–determined, enhancing their ability to make decisions, plan how to achieve goals, and carry out as well as revise their plan. This builds confidence, self– esteem, and a sense of responsibility. Engaging Youth with Disabilities As your organization assists all youth to develop their career development skills, it is essential to take into consideration and address additional needs of youth with disabilities. Whether their disabilities are apparent or not, all youth programs serve some youth with disabilities. While the presence of physical and intellectual disabilities may be obvious to staff, other youth may have learning disabilities, mental health disabilities, or chronic health conditions that aren't readily visible but still warrant consideration. Youth with any type of disability may require or benefit from accommodations or support to participate in youth programs. Youth development and leadership programs need to be physically and cognitively accessible for youth with disabilities. Ensuring that programs are cognitively accessible means ensuring that youth with learning and intellectual disabilities, as well as those with lower literacy skills, can understand what's being communicated verbally, nonverbally, and ... • 3. Debate On Rewarding Abate's "Participation Trophies Send a Powerful Message" Rewarding is the best source of motivation, not only for adults but also for the younger stars engaging in a competition; many people grow with this statement in mind and use the notion as a piece of advice that should allow conditioning of hard work in any contest (Wrobel 401–421). One of the people who believe that only winners should be rewarded for their efforts, author Parker Abate, wrote In Youth Sports, "Participation Trophies Send a Powerful Message," published in October 2016 in New York Times. He argues that while not all participants win a competition, working with the members of the team with an objective of receiving victory teaches them a lesson that in life it is important ... These young athletes should be honored in lesser ways, and all deserve to feel some form of accomplishment" (Abate). These facts introduce and support the idea that the participants of the youth competitions should be awarded as a way of reducing humiliation and underrating of the younger people who especially do not know whether they are ... • 5. Have Youth Sports Become Too Intense? With youth sports competitive rate increasing, the amount of injuries is increasing right along with it. Youth sports are taken to an all new level in today's society. Most sports are played to win and not for fun now a days. This country would be improve tremendously if youth sports would just be played the sports for fun, not be punished for doing the wrong thing and pushed to where injury comes into play. Kids off over this country participate in sports and usually have parents volunteered as their coaches. In the article called "Have Youth Sports Become Too Intense?" the authors Mark Hyman and Nathan Pitcock says, "74 percent of the kids surveyed said they had witnessed out–of–control adults at their games" (Hyman and Ptcock). • 7. Youth Service Proposal I am a very active individual within my church however we do not currently have a youth services program. This has become very popular and common in my area therefore I feel it is important to implement a youth outreach program at my church. Drift Pentecostal Church is an adult–driven church that has dissipated in youth over the last 10 years. Drift Pentecostal Church has not had a youth program since the early 70 's. The program has dwindled to a mere once a week Sunday School class that is separated by ages. With each year, the enrollment has diminished thereby leaving our church with only 20 youth members ranging from ages 2–18 years of age. Of these individuals, approximately 80 percent are under the age of 10. Although the pastor is very effective at bringing in new members, it is still important to target the youth in our society today. The most important reason, schools are no longer allowing God in their programs. With the constant fight for separation of church and state, the youth are suffering. The importance of developing a youth program is critical in order to drive our youth into the churches and into God 's hands. In an article written by Mark Howard, he wrote, "the youth are restless, insecure, jaded, and desperately searching for meaning to explain all the hurt and suffering they see around them, meaning for their very existence," therefore what the youth need most is the gospel of Christ Jesus. He is the one who gives meaning to this life. In a study ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

University of Sunderland Community and Youth Work Studies (BA Hons) 3rd Year Education in Community and Youth Work CYW 307 Tutor : Ilona Buchroth Student : Valerie Ender Date : 16th January 2012 Part 1 Please use your understanding of critical educational theory to analyse a case study from community and youth work practice. "Our aspiration is for a more socially mobile and just society, where young people can be the authors of their own life story." The low aspirations of these working class young people embed the status quo. These young people see nothing wrong with their life plans and were, for the most part, perfectly happy with their lot in life. Most of the young people come from homes where money is tight and only a few of them sport the latest trainer or gadget. The school system supports the dominant ideology, Kingsmeadow is classed by Ofsted (2010) as a good school, even though, the Governments own league table place Kingsmeadow School second to bottom in educational attainment within the Borough. These young people are generally happy at school, the atmosphere is pleasant and reasonably respectful but exam results are poor. Gramsci would state that the education system was enabling the hegemonic ideology by consent and perpetrating the false consciousness that this level of attainment and aspiration is normal and entirely appropriate for these young people. Neither student, parent, teacher, governor nor the wider community appear to challenge the status quo.

As a Youth Social worker in today's society, you never know what's going to come across your desk. You wonder, what are you going to see or hear when talking to them? How do you help? Will you be able to gain their trust? Will you be able to handle the stress? These are some of the questions that will be addressed. As a youth counselor you're responsible for providing daily case management and the overall wellbeing of your clients. Dealing with a crisis, one is putting themselves at risk of being harmed. In a 2008 article, psychologist John M. Grohol states that counselors working in urban and low–income areas are more at risk as violence rates are higher in these areas. For example, you come to work and 5 more cases have been added to the 10 you already have. Before you even get to look over the new files because you haven't finished the first ones, you find out that one of your new cases has committed suicide. • 17. Do Youth Curfews Really Work? Youth Curfews Do youth curfews really work? With crime rate rising daily in many cities, more counties and cities are introducing new youth curfew laws to keep the youth out of the street after a certain time. The issue of adopting curfew laws has become more popular as parents are more concern about their kids' safety during night time. Although parents and the cities have good intentions to cut the rate of crimes by proposing youth curfew laws, there are several unintended consequences that lead youth curfew laws into a public disservice. Teen curfew are designed to keep the teenagers safe at night while keeping the crime rate low, it's not designed to limit the rights of teenagers. With most crimes occur during night time, it is reasonable to say that it is more dangerous on the street when it's night time. Many support imposing a curfew for youth as they believe that it will reduce juvenile crime and victimization. However, some might argue that youth curfew laws set limits on parents 'decisions. Due to the fat that curfew laws do encourage teenagers to be home sleeping when it's night time, curfew laws do help control the pace of teenager's lives while making sure they are not exposed to more danger during night time. As there are less people around during night time, the crime right is most likely to be higher when compared to day time. • 19. Different Influences That Affect The Way We Grow, Think,... The world has many different influences that affect the way we grow, think, and act. It is interesting how some people from the same background and upbringing can become completely different people simply by the people they associate with. Psychologically association can be one of the best or worst things that can happen to someone. Depending on the type of association can determine which road you go down in life. Choices like this start at a very young age, such as grade school to high school. When in school, most establish the type of associations that they want to have around them around elementary years. If they have someone dressing a certain way then they will tend to change the way that are dressing. The way they dress, talk, walk, and treat others will start to become something that rubs off on you. Just like having a bad influence, others can have a great impact on those around them such as manners, respect, and the ways they speak, walk, and talk. If those around you are setting a good example of how to act then this is what should be followed. . Even in today's world social media plays a large part in pushing what success is when speaking about role models. The proper role models for youth are not deemed as successful and are not shown on social media or television. This makes it hard from day one for those who see something such as a positive example because it does not seem to be the most poplar way in school. Students in the earlier years are easier ... • 21. The Importance Of Youth Ministry The education of youth is important because all our thinking and action should begin with God. Because young people are highly relational, Christian doctrine is critical for effective youth ministry. To study Jesus is to learn about good relationships and how to relate. Relevant youth ministry must copy His style and the way He ministered to others. An educational based youth ministry to young people points to the person of Jesus Christ: his life, teachings and work for us. The best way to transfer information, skills, and biblical values to young people so they may be effective Christian decision makers is to emphasize the critical thinking–the ability to "learn how to learn." Those of us in youth ministry should understand and employ these techniques in educational ministries. With critical thinking skills, young people will have the tools they need to successfully navigate the seas over which they will travel. Chapter Seven: Transforming the Mind, 2 (feelings) Youth ministry's focus is to intentionally help each young person develop a foundation of spiritual maturity with Jesus Christ. The process of a teenager becoming a responsible Christian adult is when they lose interest in childish behaviors and focus on the Lord's will allowing the Spirit to lead them into a servant's role. Chapter nine: Transforming the Body Spiritual transformation requires the transformation of the body because the flesh is weak, I must not let my body parts control my actions. Christian ... This essay will define the key concepts of Youth, Community and Society, explaining what Youth Work and Community Development are, and identifying various social categories that are important to this work. This essay will define the differing perspectives of youth and how class and age discrimination impact this. It will examine the different models of practice and reflect on challenges that may be faced when going into practice. Thus, showing how practitioners work effectively in this area and using relevant research to support this. Age is the easiest way to define 'youth' as being the period between childhood and adulthood. This is specified, by the United Nations and World Bank, as a person between the ages of 15 and 24. This can be identified ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Sapin (2009:3) establishes that "youth work practice promotes change and development through a commitment to relationships based on respect for young people, listening to them and mutual learning'". The Federation of Community Development Learning's definition of community work is similar to this as it centres active involvement and relationships between individuals and groups to shape their lives and experiences. This approach emphasises action based on reflection and on the relationship between practitioner and client. Davies (2005) set out seven direct commitments for Youth Work, most of which also apply to the works of Community Development. These are: voluntary participation; tipping the balance of power in their favour; starting where the client is at and responding to their expectations; offering new experiences and challenging activities; working on and from their territory to include their interests, activities and styles and emotional concerns; respecting and working through their peer networks. The one principle that cannot be applied to Community Development is 'responding to young people as young people and not pre–set adult imposed labels' which is very significant in youth work in order to respect and value a young person as an individual and work with developing their own needs and goals. As shown, the two professions do interlink in more ways than one especially as young people belong to and form the community. This is supported by Sapin (2009) who recognises that youth workers help to shape the lives of young people they work with, which in turn, will shape the futures of their own ... The group were given 15 minutes to design the poster. When the group first entered the room and read the task, the group started to focus on what needed to be done, the group progressed well however when the task started to get more involved, it was clear that some voices were being heard, and some being ignored. We know that within groups it is hard for every member to be an equal, especially in this group where roles have already been developed, certain members will carry more influence than others, but trying to re assign these roles for equal participation could potentially cause problems. In this group there is one individual who usually has a lot of influence and is always participating. Watching the video it is clear that his usual role is being taken over by other members of the group. The responses from Jeff towards the task were negative; this may have been because he was lost i.e. his normal place in the group was being taken over by other members. His usual power within the group was not as prominent and because of this it may have affected his willingness to accept the task, the facilitator recognising this could have done several things, by directing questions towards the withdrawing participant it directs focus back on to him, through doing this it may have nudged him back into the group discussion. • 27. Preparing Youth For The World Of Work Preparing Youth for the World of Work Bronfenbrenner's ecological model of human development is a useful framework for examining a young person's career development. Each system provides an opportunity for intervention and exploration to occur. Family, school, peers and the workplace are all microsystem levels where career development can take root. This exposure may be very limited, or be part of intentional exploration, such as high school career–technical programs and internships. Microsystem interaction, such as between school and work, is a key component to youth transitions and reveals a mesosystem impact. Exosystem and macrosystem influences should also be considered, but are areas in which the youth or youth professionals have less control. So, it is at the mesosystem level that transitions to career can logically be best addressed (Journal of Youth and Adolescence, 1983). Working with adolescents on the micro and macro levels is the appropriate way for youth to become prepared for the world of work and the accompanying responsibilities of this transition (Shanahan, Moritmer and Kruger, 2002). Based on Bronfenbrenner's model, school systems and workplaces are appropriate places for youth to seek out and receive career development opportunities. However, this is not necessarily the case for contemporary youth. Many young people are leaving high school unprepared for the transition to career (The Forum for Youth Investment, 2006; W. Gates, 2005; Holland, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Youth Work Philosophy Statement Over 25 years ago, I walked through the doors of a youth conference as a young instructor excited at having the chance to teach and reach young people for Christ. I begin to scan the room looking for the person in charge. To my amazement I was directed to a 92 year old lady who was frantically moving about the room trying to gain some degree of control. As the chaos found some resemblance of order, we begin our adventure of trying to teach the youth about Christ. Unfortunately, there had been no preparation, curriculum, or direction. Our sole instruction was, "teach them whatever you teach at your church". This is often a predicament that many youth workers face, which leads to teaching without goals, objective, or a clear vision, in other ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although I have been afforded many opportunities to teach youth workers across the state and even on a National level, I believe that pursuing a degree in Biblical studies with a concentration on youth work would greatly benefit not only my personal ministry, but help other youth workers, and ultimately our youth which would help them develop a closer relationship with Christ, and live according the purpose God has called them to. Many youth workers have been brought up believing that the ways we've reached and taught youth in the past will continue to work for generations to come. This is not true. As the hymn writer, Charles Wesley wrote, "A charge to keep I have, A God to glorify, A never–dying soul to save, and fit it for the sky. To serve the present age, my calling to fulfill: O may it all my powers engage to do my master's will! We must be mindful that what we had to deal with does not compare to what this generation faces from day to day. We did not grow up in the drug infested, gang ridden, over burdened, under loved, under nourished, crime infested, surrogate parent, impoverish, sexually explicit war zones that they live ... • 31. Growing Fears As A Youth Leader Facing Your Fears as a Youth Leader About three years ago, I was sat in an office telling my Gap Year Supervisor that I'd love to do a gap year with my local Youth For Christ centre, provided that I only had to do background stuff like admin etc. Not, under any circumstance, did I want to come into contact with any actual front of house youth work or young person of any sort. One year later I was wearing a sumo suit while flinging myself at one of the young people in an attempt to knock them out of the circle in a sumo wrestling fight to end all fights. Granted I'm a young youth worker (only been in the business three years) but I feel I have a little bit of authority on the subject of conquering fears, considering that my fear was one of the biggest and most ridiculous fear that can hinder any other youth worker of any age– I was terrified of teenagers. Now, before you laugh, I think we can all agree that teenagers can be flipping scary. They decide what (and who) is cool this year, half of them think they're smarter than they are and the other half are smarter than you so don't even try. They can be scathing and have the ability to make you question every life choice you have ever made with one sarcastic comment. All that said, those are also the reasons why we love them so much. Whatever it is, be it young people themselves or something entirely different, every single youth worker in the world has fears, and those fears, no matter how big or small, have the ... • 38. Carol Stuart 's Foundations Of Child And Youth Care Growing up, I was extremely fortunate to have a parent who embodied all of the characteristics listed in Carol Stuart's "Foundations of Child and Youth Care" including passion, caring, space and time, and social competence. My mother has always been my main role model, caregiver, friend, and always treated me with the upmost respect and patience, and together we built a relationship based on trust and mutual appreciation. We would often go on long walks together, using this as a therapeutic milieu for storytelling and the cultivation of unbiased advice. For me, it was important to analyze the world outside of my own head and share in the mutual struggles of daily life with someone who understood or, at the very least listened, as I analyzed, experienced, and complained about the world. For the better part of my life, I did not see this as therapeutic or its relation to child and youth work, rather assuming all parents were capable of , and expressed, this kind of love to some degree. However, it was only by watching my friends wrestle with issues such as depression, anxiety, and body image that I realized the isolation and loneliness that can easily overcome a person without a proper role model or guidance and more importantly, that this presence is not guaranteed in everyone's life. Through experiences with my friends and mother, I am familiar with being on either side of a therapeutic situation, acknowledged the vital role of it in personal development and decided to ... • 40. Youth Works Response to Alcohol Consumption among Young... Current responses For the purposes of this research chapter I shall be exploring youth works response to the issue of alcohol consumption among young people today. According to the Youth Work Act 2001; "Youth work" means a planned programme of education designed for the purpose of aiding and enhancing the personal and social development of young persons through their voluntary participation, and which is– (a) Complementary to their formal, academic or vocational education and training; and (b) Provided primarily by voluntary youth work organisations. Youth workers achieve this by creating circumstances which enable young people to feel comfortable with themselves, make and sustain personal relationships, reach their potential and find their place in society. Due to the nature of their work, youth workers form close relationships with the young people they engage with. These relationships are central to the youth work process. It is essentially a partnership, which allows the young people space to express themselves and provides an opportunity for learning which they may otherwise ignore. By utilising this relationship youth workers can offer essential support to the young people during the crucial stages of their development by befriending them, listening to them and advocating on their behalf. The importance of this relationship does not change when working with young people around issues such as alcohol. In fact, in many ways it actually benefits the facilitation of the ... This was a community–focused urban agriculture project that helped raise funds to continue operating the greenhouses during the winter. It also enabled them to provide consistent year–round after–school employment for four of the young people that helped to get the project off the ground. This campaign was in addition to several community events held in efforts to raise money for the "green winter". This was as a result of weather implications in Rochester, NY, which prevented them from growing fresh fruits and vegetables. The pilot aquaponic farming system would "winterize" the greenhouse by sustaining a year–round farming operation that enabled them to triple production capabilities with four new vertical grow beds. Not only did the money raised help physically make these changes possible, but it also provided the youth with more after school activities as a result of these expansions. ProsperRochester has relied on its partnerships to achieve its goals. In order to establish these greenhouses, ProsperRochester teamed up with In The City/Off The Grid. ICOG is a Rochester– based cooperative business that offers solar installation services and general construction services, while engaging in community development projects and employee training. Unfortunately, this occurs at every level of the justice system. Not only does it occur in from initial contact with the police, it continues through incarceration. In many cases, young juvenile minority are being discriminated, they come from corrupted developing countries with high levels of crime, and the majority of white youths are from wealthy families. Most young juveniles are constantly being discriminated due to their ethnic background. The 14th Amendment to the United States Constitution has been construed to translate that discrimination based on traits such as race are a violation of due process (cite). Young people are not taught the objectives defined by a teacher as they would be in a classroom, they are encouraged to work things out for themselves as an active learner. An educator's role in informal education is 'to create situations in which young people can identify their own goals for learning' (Mackinnon, 2013 p13). In this instance (LGBT activity) the students were placed in small groups and given the agenda i.e. where they would like Peer Education to be in two months time. From this they worked together to discuss and identify the skills and barriers involved in peer education. However they did not sit in a group around a table as you would expect to find with group activities taking place in a school, instead they grouped using the furniture and floor space around the room in an informal manner and discussed issues within their group rather than being directed by Scott or Jean whose input was merely to work around the groups asking relevant questions to encourage independent thinking therefore 'the practitioner becomes a facilitator of opportunities in which young people can work collaboratively on projects or activities' ( Mackinnon, 2013 p13) . • 52. The Importance Of Youth Work Activities During our time studying in the Solomon Islands and Vanuatu critical decisions regarding youth work practice were made. One of these decisions was staying to wait for our boat to the island of Savo. Many of the group woke up early to be at the port in time to catch our boat to be told that we would be waiting at least another hour. During the wait the group found a comfortable spot and relaxed. After the hour ended the group went back to the port in time to catch the boat however, we ended up waiting another 45 minutes there as the boat needed fuel. Although waiting in humid 30– degree heat is difficult, patience and resilience were shown by all group members and it provided an important learning opportunity for me which I will take into my youth work practice. This wait was not our first nor last in the Pacific Islands and by the end of the trip I understood what 'island time' was. By waiting for the boat without complaint the group embraced the relaxed Pacific Islander culture. This had positive effects throughout the day as once we had left the port, the day ran smoothly. Any issue with the wait may have caused tension between the group and Paul or David who were our tour guides for the day. This was not the first time the group had been kept waiting on the trip, although we had only been there for a few days. The first was on our initial night in Honiara at the church, in which the service started 45 minutes to an hour late. During this wait I asked the young person I was ... The objective of this essay is to explore the positive and negative sides of focusing on risk in young people's lives, and contend that although the concepts may help us to understand youth behaviours, there is a need to be cautious in its implementation, as they carry a number of implicit assumptions. Firstly, the approaches of 'at–risk' and 'risk taking' are defined; in order to understand the different ways the concepts are related to young people. These positive aspects include of the identification of 'at–risk' youth for prevention measures and Stephen Lyng's edgework notion to comprehend individuals' voluntary 'risk taking'. Secondly, discussions the usefulness of the concepts in promoting our comprehension of young individuals' behaviours are provided. Lastly, limitations of the approaches are discussed to highlight the precautions needed when applying the concepts, as it may lead to placing the blame on 'at–risk' youth, higher degree of scrutiny for young women than their men and the normalised assumption on behalf of the 'risk taking' notion. The concepts of 'at–risk' and 'risk taking' There are two main concepts in the literatures of the sociology of youth, which linked risk and young people together. • 68. Youth And Social Construction The intricate nature of youth means that while some argue it is a universal stage of life, it is seen by many as a formation of sociocultural elements. Social construction can be defined as something that has been shaped by the values, interests or practices of a culture or society and this is evident in the youth demographic through its revolution in recent years. The markings of youth are social in formulation; highlighting the way in which young people have been influenced by differing trends and movements. Youth is a transitional phase, its age bracket extending and blurring; transcending global divides and traditions. Thus, it is the social context that surrounds youth which suggests that it is not a universal stage of life. Ultimately, the idea of youth when viewed in a historical and cultural context as well as in relation to other socially influenced concepts such as adulthood, can be observed as a social construction. A Post–First World War occurrence, the concept of youth emerged as a historically comprised debate in response to the social, political and cultural shifts at the time. Youth became a label used to categorize a particular age group, with education and perceived life progress used to mark the unfixed period between childhood and adulthood. It has been suggested that there has been disruption in the general 'life patterns' for young people present around the time of, or born just after the First World War (White & Wyn, 2008). • 70. Group Work Theory And Youth Work Practice YWU406 (1000words) This essay will define the concepts of groups by making links to both group work theory and youth work practice. Therefore, the need for group work in a youth work role will be identified. One definition of the term group is "two or more individuals who are connected to one another by social relationships" (Forsyth, 2006, p.2–3). This definition suggests that a group is subject to three elements: the number of individuals involved; connection between the individuals; and some form of relationship (Smith. 2008) However, this definition is more attributed to either dyad or triad groups where the connection is purely relationship based. Therefore, a more fitting definition of group for the 'group of level four Youth and Community Work students at Newman University' is identified by a list of attributes created by Jarlath Benson. From the attributes she suggests that groups have three key characteristics: "parts, relationship between the parts, and an organising principle." (2000, p.5). The organising principle with the class group is a desire to complete the degree. Turner (1987) and Brown (1999) highlighted that groups exist in relation to other groups and aren't just entities in their own right. The class group exists in relation to the tutor group, working groups and friendship groups. There are several different theories about groups and group work. For this reason, it is contestable and highly problematic to provide an absolute definition of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 74. What Youth Work Is And What It Mean To Me? Youth work practice helps young people learn about themselves, others and society. – National Youth Agency. "Never underestimate the difference YOU can make in the lives of others. Step forward, reach out and help. Reach to someone that might need a lift" ― Pablo What youth work is and what it means to me? The youth work profession focuses on helping, working and supporting young people. My own understanding of youth work is it's about empowering and advocating on behalf of young people. I want to be a youth worker who makes a difference. That means putting a hundred percent into the work I do with young people. According to Sapin (2009) youth work is defined as 'working with young people to develop enjoyable activities'. It's defined as addressing young people's needs and interests. It's achieved through forming voluntary relationship based on mutual respect (Sapin, 2009). Youth work is defined by three main factors (YACVic, 2004). I believe these factors show exactly what youth work is. The first is young people are the primary consideration. Young people come first in our type of work. The second factor is young people are seen in their social context. This means providing young people with an opportunity to interact within a positive social environment (YACVic, 2004). It also means challenging barriers young people face in their environment. The last factor is using a holistic approach in youth work. This factor is about recognizing young people as a whole individual. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 76. Everyone must take responsibility Everyone must take responsibility The American education system is heavily under pressure. The Globalisation has changed the American society dramatically. Throughout the last decades many, especially low–skilled jobs, have been outsourced to foreign countries. Many low–skilled American workers are simply no longer able to compete with the cheap labour in foreign countries such as China or Bangladesh. As a consequence of the increasing globalisation, the American society has throughout the last decades increasingly focused on education. Even though the American politicians and the society as a whole are aware of the importance of education, the American education system is facing a lot of challenges. For example are many young people, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In extension to this should the American youth also start to realize that education is not just about sitting in a school and listen to teachers. Education can be so much more. Additionally should they also be told that academic and more practical jobs are equally important for the society. Even though the American youth first of all should acquire skills for their own sake, are they nevertheless to a great extent responsible for the future of the US. On the other hand should it always be clear that the whole thing about education and requiring skills not just is about maintaining the position of the US as an economic superpower. The American society doesn't need economic growth and a better–educated youth just for the sake of it. It needs a well–educated youth because the skills and knowledge they acquire in the lessons might help to cure deadly diseases such as AIDS or Cancer. In Addition could critical thinking acquired by education in the long run probably help to fight social challenges such as poverty, crime or homelessness. When it comes to economic growth is it not just to make certain people rich. That's not a problem at all, as long as everyone is better of, jobs are being created, and the society is able to take care of them who are in need. On the other hand shall the American youth not lift the burden alone. Parents, teachers, government, businesses and the young people themselves have to cooperate. Parents must motivate their ... • 78. Ethnographic Methods Utilized By Finkelstein In With No... With No Direction Home: Homeless Youth on the Road and in the Streets is an ethnography which describes the lives of youths living on the streets of New York City. The author attempts to conduct her own research in order to dispute the false impressions that many previous researches have formed about the youths living on the street. The ethnographic method she uses aids her study of the "street kids" in acknowledging the facts behind their choice of lifestyle and their experiences while on the street. Marni Finklestein received her PhD in Anthropology from the New School of Social Research in New York City. She has also managed to organize many other studies based on drugs and substance abuse as well as sexual assaults in the streets of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Malinowski and Finklestein used similar concepts in their field study to acknowledge the depth of their study rather than using the "armchair approach" (12, 2014). Moreover the ethnographic methods used by Finklestein in approaching the youth of New York are also displayed in Kristina E. Gibson's' Street Kids: Homeless Youth, Outreach, and Policing New York's Streets. Both being women researchers, their approaches were similar in wanting to seek the emotional perspective on the youth's lives and experiences. Despite that both are women, Gibson uses a more feministic perspective in her ethnographic approach and she spends a longer duration of time in her study than Finklestein (2011, Gibson). Marni Finklestein uses methods such as interviewing and approaching the youth as a professional researcher, on the other hand, Kristina E. Gibson uses the methods of volunteering as a "street outreach"(2011, Gibson) worker. Gibson created her analysis based on the human geography, whereas Finklestein based her study on the basis of Anthropology. Although they both conducted their study by approaching the street kids of New York City, the concepts and the reasons for their research are different. Finklestein wants to provide information, about how the youths got on the street and what their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 80. Example Of Rhetorical Analysis Greetings Dr. Davenport, Per your question, 'give me a couple of examples of how this could be done in a church?' One example and instance, when I served as Youth Pastor in Virginia. When I took over, the youth ministry did not exist. There was a youth choir and youth came together on occasions to do various events, but no viable youth ministry. After much prayer and the Pastors' agreement, I set up a flow chart and during a church meeting, asked each department for assistance to help bring the youth together under one umbrella. This took several months to logistically work out, however, once it took effect, information began to flow from each department to help with no schedule conflict, the youth ministry grew from 2 to 120 youth, which ...
