This document lists the primary research materials for a study of film director Lars von Trier's distinctive style. The films to be analyzed are Dredd (2012), Rush (2013), Country Wedding (2008), and Antichrist (2009). The document explains that these films span different genres but contain similar elements and von Trier's style. It aims to examine how von Trier uses lighting or the lack of lighting through mise-en-scene to enhance his films and create a gritty feel. Additionally, it will look at continuity between his early non-Hollywood films and recent Hollywood films. Several sources on digital cinematography and interviews with von Trier are provided to aid the analysis.

2. PRIMARY RESEARCH MATERIAL
My primary texts are:
• Dredd (Pete Travis 2012)
• Rush (Ron Howard 2013)
• Country Wedding (Valdís Óskarsdóttir 2008)
• Antichrist (Lars von Trier 2009)
I have chosen these films because they are all separate genres however they all have
elements that are similar and you can see his distinctive style in his films. I want to find
how Dod Mantle uses mise-en-scene specifically lighting or the lack of lighting to
enhance his works. I want to find how it enhances his shots and the decisions he makes
to create a specific gritty feel in his films. I will also be looking to see if there is
continuity between his earlier ‘non-Hollywood’ movies and his recent Hollywood
movies.
