In this session, we will discuss about actor system, hierarchy, introduction to child actors -how to instantiate child actors, and naming conventions to be followed. Also, we will discuss about supervision strategies and actor selection in Akka.
In this session, we will learn about how to handle actor failures in concurrent and distributed environments via Akka. Also, we will learn about the Akka actor lifecycle.
An actor is an object that receives messages and takes actions to handle them. It is decoupled from the source of the message and its only responsibility is to properly recognise the type of message it has received and take action accordingly.
This document provides an overview of schedulers and timers in Akka. It discusses how schedulers allow tasks or messages to be run or sent to actors at defined points in the future, either single executions or periodically. It describes two types of scheduling delays - fixed-delay and fixed-rate execution. Timers are used specifically for scheduling within actors and ensure schedules continue if an actor restarts. The document demonstrates setting up single and periodic timers using the Timers trait and describes the actor lifecycle.
The document discusses how perceptions of a Scrum Master's role can vary widely between different groups. It summarizes surveys that found 40% of organizations don't understand Scrum and 60% of teams don't have dedicated Scrum Masters. It emphasizes the importance for Scrum Masters to understand how others perceive their role in order to effectively facilitate Agile transformations.

The document discusses knowledge and skills needed for the PMI-ACP certification. It covers project and quality standards for Agile projects, principles of stakeholder management, Agile team motivation theories, characteristics of high-performance teams, differences between distributed and collocated teams, Agile facilitation techniques, and Agile participatory decision making models. The key topics covered include extreme programming coding standards, Maslow's hierarchy of needs, Herzberg's two-factor theory, and techniques for facilitating ideas and enabling team input in Agile such as 'Buy a Feature' game.

Climate Impact of Software Testing at Nordic Testing DaysKari Kakkonen
My slides at Nordic Testing Days 6.6.2024
Climate impact / sustainability of software testing discussed on the talk. ICT and testing must carry their part of global responsibility to help with the climat warming. We can minimize the carbon footprint but we can also have a carbon handprint, a positive impact on the climate. Quality characteristics can be added with sustainability, and then measured continuously. Test environments can be used less, and in smaller scale and on demand. Test techniques can be used in optimizing or minimizing number of tests. Test automation can be used to speed up testing.

A tale of scale & speed: How the US Navy is enabling software delivery from l...sonjaschweigert1
Rapid and secure feature delivery is a goal across every application team and every branch of the DoD. The Navy’s DevSecOps platform, Party Barge, has achieved:
- Reduction in onboarding time from 5 weeks to 1 day
- Improved developer experience and productivity through actionable findings and reduction of false positives
- Maintenance of superior security standards and inherent policy enforcement with Authorization to Operate (ATO)
Development teams can ship efficiently and ensure applications are cyber ready for Navy Authorizing Officials (AOs). In this webinar, Sigma Defense and Anchore will give attendees a look behind the scenes and demo secure pipeline automation and security artifacts that speed up application ATO and time to production.
We will cover:
- How to remove silos in DevSecOps
- How to build efficient development pipeline roles and component templates
- How to deliver security artifacts that matter for ATO’s (SBOMs, vulnerability reports, and policy evidence)
- How to streamline operations with automated policy checks on container images

Securing your Kubernetes cluster_ a step-by-step guide to success !KatiaHIMEUR1
Today, after several years of existence, an extremely active community and an ultra-dynamic ecosystem, Kubernetes has established itself as the de facto standard in container orchestration. Thanks to a wide range of managed services, it has never been so easy to set up a ready-to-use Kubernetes cluster.
However, this ease of use means that the subject of security in Kubernetes is often left for later, or even neglected. This exposes companies to significant risks.
In this talk, I'll show you step-by-step how to secure your Kubernetes cluster for greater peace of mind and reliability.

01 Introduction to Akka Actors
02 Actor Hierarchy
04 Supervision and Actor Selection
Child Actors
03
Demo
05
5. ● Akka is a toolkit and runtime for building highly concurrent, distributed,
and fault-tolerant message-driven applications on the JVM.
● Akka is written in Scala.
● What is an Actor?
● Message Passing
8. ● The ActorSystem is a root actor in actor structure.
● It is a hierarchical group of actors which share common configuration, e.g.
dispatchers, deployments, remote capabilities and addresses.
● It is also the entry point for creating or looking up actors.
Actor Path
11. ❏ In case of failure, the parent decides from the below directives :
● Resume: Simply resume message processing.
● Restart: Transparently replace affected actor with new instance and then resume message
processing.
● Stop: Stop affected Actor permanently.
● Escalate: Escalate the failure by failing itself and propagate failure to its parent.
❏ Supervision Strategy
There are two type of supervision strategies to supervise any actor:
1. One-For-One – Only the faulty child is affected when it fails.
2. One-For-All – All children are affected when one child fails.
13. ● Actor selection is a feature that offers to find actor by path.
● The actor path is used to send the message to that particular actor.
● It is used to locate an actor deeper into the hierarchy.
How to use Actor Selection
