This document discusses leadership versus dominance from a psychological and brain-based perspective. It describes how different parts of the human brain - the reptilian brain, paleolimbic brain, neolimbic brain, and prefrontal cortex - relate to different types of behaviors and leadership styles. Dominance is defined as behavior driven by the reptilian and paleolimbic brains focused on power, intimidation, and self-interest. True leadership, on the other hand, engages the neolimbic brain related to identity and the prefrontal cortex enabling innovation, adaptability, and consideration of others. The document contrasts how dominance rises in organizations through internal politics versus leadership aiming to improve the organization as a whole.

10. We human being are quite complex personalities.
∙ Behavioral science helped us to know who we are and what motivate us.
∙ Why we follow few people and why contradict some others.
∙ Lot of study done in advanced neuroscience , gave us a whole new understanding about
who we are as human beings.
Human Psychology
11. When we look at these different management style , we are clue-less to
understand -
∙ How these different sub-conscious programs are functioning ?
● Which are leading us to make certain decisions .
● Impact our behavior without us even being aware of it.
● How these survival Instincts (to save our-selves) sometime make us to do
● bad than good.
● How people and our surroundings impact our decisions.
Leadership Psychology
15. [2]. Paleolimbic Brain
∙ Paleolimbic brain is home of our sub-conscious
scripts and our education which regulate our
lives.
∙ Works on the concept of Self-Confidence and
Trust.
Living together to maximize the survival
chances of group is the main functioning of this
brain.
∙
16. Paleolimbic Brain [ Assertiveness]
∙ In the middle we have assertiveness. Here
people say yes for the things they want to do
and No to what they don't want.
∙ Top -to much self-confidence is called
Dominance.
17. [3]. Neolimbic Brain
∙ The 3rd
brain structure is a Neolimbic Brain. The most fascinating
place , home to our deepest motivation and raw emotions.
∙ This is where our memories resides. Everything we have
experienced in our life will be recorded here. The good , the bad.
∙ It deals everything from walking , talking , over driving and using
our computers, or to how to behave in public.
∙ Its highly efficient and make us work in our daily lives.
18. [4]. Prefrontal Brain
∙ Last brain structure is the Prefrontal Brain. The place
where all evolution happens.
∙ It makes us unique as a human being.
∙ Reptilian and Paleolimbic is so basic which puts us in
state where we have no connection with our logical
thinking.
∙ Neolimbic tells us who we are as an Individuals .
∙ Prefrontal brain create innovative combinations to create
new ways to deal with complex situations at hand.
∙ works like a super-computer and a champion of
adaptation and adaptability.
20. Reptilian Vs Paleolimbic
∙ When Reptilian brain is functioning , people
behave in a stressed- mode.
∙ How-ever when Paleolimbic brain is
functioning , people behave in a Territorial
way. Its all about the power-games.
∙ Paleolimbic brain tries to impress
∙ and intimidate others.
∙
21. Dominant Behavior
∙ Dominant people think they are entitlement for
more than others.
∙ And believe that they are the best may be for the
better look , more money , bigger car ,
what-so-ever the reason is.
∙ Dominant person can be very nice and charming ,
yet it is not genuine.
∙ For dominant person , others are evaluated as
utility, they will use them to obtain their goal
what-ever that may be .
22. Dominant Behavior
∙ Dominance is all about Yelling ,
Over-powering And Manipulations .
∙ Can be spotted very easily by Macho
behavior , bulling others .
∙ These people never question their own
behavior and thus never learn.
∙ And its excessive form leads to Narcissistic
personality dis-order.
23. ∙ From early stage , some children just use
others to get what they want and get very
aggressive when they don't get it.
∙ This Paleolimbic behavior unfortunately get
often rewarded as we tend to avoid conflict
and confrontation let them have their way.
Dominant Behavior
24. Leadership Vs Dominance
This exactly why a Dominant , Aggressive , Paleolimbic
people ends up in key positions in the organizations.
As they move up in hierarchy , they ruthlessly play the
game of internal politics .
Their objective not to improve the company as a whole
but to get personal privileges through social status, power
and higher income. They defend their territory as their life
depend on this.
How-ever this is NOT a Leadership. BUT Dominance.
