WHY URINE SPECIMEN READS ABNORMAL.
Urine specimen for urinalysis sometimes reads abnormal due to the following;
1. Some medications we take, medications such as flagyl, penicillin and
quinine might affect the values of urine specimen when we are on it.
2. Some medical conditions, medical conditions such as diabetes and kidney
disease can also affect the values of urine specimen.
3. Some foods we eat, some food such as garlic and carrort when used
regularly in our meal might also affect the values of urine specimen.
4. The amount of fluids we take. if you drink sufficient fluids the lesser
concentration your urine become and then more urine you produce and vice
versa.
5. Inactivity, Urinary tract infection is more common in the aged due to
inactivity.
NURSING INTERVENTIONS
1. Encourage patient to reduce to consumption of citrus fruits to reduce the
acidity in his urine and encourage the client to eat more citrus fruits when
the acidity in his urine is low to prevent infection.
2. Encourage patients who do not drink enough fluids to drink more.
3. Encourage patient to reduce the intake of carrots and garlic so his urine
would be clear and off any odour.
4. Assist client to ambulate and do range of motion exercises to promote
circulation.
5. Discuss with the Doctor to alternate IV infusions if there is too much
glucose in urine.
