It is an online website that allows everyday citizens to become “citizen journalists” It is meant to be a platform in which regular citizens are able to upload highlighted moments from important events in order to share them with the world( for example, dramatic weather conditions or major sporting events) Submission can be either in the form of an image, video or written article Any submissions that are uploaded onto CNN’s iReport are not checked for validity or factuality
- 3. When was it created? CNN’s iReport was launched on August, 2, 2006 CNN’s iReport is a sister project that spawned from CNN’s Fan Zone which was created as a platform for fans from the 2006 FIFA world cup in Germany to post videos and pictures of the game

Some Information Due to it’s growing popularity, in 2011 CNN hosted awards and broke them down into seven categories which included; breaking news, personal story, compelling imagery, commentary, original reporting, interview, and community choice CNN international airs a 30 minute segment showcasing highlighted stories from the site

- 6. How to use it? Using CNN’s iReport is easy as 1-2-3! In order to use it, you must create account. When creating an account, it asks you for your name and email account. It also asks for you to create a username and password for your account. After, creating an account you are able to upload images and video and share your news with the world!
- 7. The iReport and Social Media! CNN’s iReport has provided everyday people with the ability to become citizen journalists and has given people who normally wouldn’t interact with social media, to do so. It has become a great way for people circulate news all over the globe and become connected. It has given many the opportunity to share news and information with the world on an established and credible site. Although, the submissions are not checked for the facts, the CNN’s iReport is an incredible tool for many. It allows for people to share their stories when they wouldn’t necessarily have the chance too! The effect it’s had on social media is phenomenal; it is a huge benefit to all!
