2. Conventions of a magazine
O Mast Head: The Masthead is the main title of the front page
and is usually the most eye-catching convention on a page.
O Lead story: usually a splash. This is the main story.
O Pugs: The pug is well placed and catches the reader’s eye.
O Splash: This would be a main story which is accompanied
by a headline and a photograph.
O Strapline: This is the headline which is the heading below
the initial headline
O Headline: main story, this is usually in the largest and
boldest font, it will also describe the main story.
O Kicker: A part of a magazine that tells you about what the
article is going to be about, which is usually very bold and
stand out.
O Credits: In the form of a beeline, the author is usually
credited for their work also some photographers are may
have there name below the image.
3. O Anchorage: this is usually when a kicker is put
next to an image for example an image of a women
and then having a kicker next to her hair saying ‘20
celebrity hair how to's’ this would be anchorage.
O Feature: Usually with a human-interest angle
presented as a spread, but not necessarily a ‘news’
item(current affairs).
O Lure: Could be used as a marketing device, its
usually a word or phase that makes the reader the
inside article.
O Menu: The list of contents inside the paper.
O Stand first: Sentence after a headline and before
an article begins that ‘sells’ a feature to a reader.
O Secondary lead: a sneak preview of an inside
article or story usually a picture.
O Box out: a coloured box behind some text, usually
used to make the text stand out.
