Perfect Square Trinomials
Class Work
2. Factoring Polynomials:
So far, we have factored binomials, such as: (8x2 + 2x3)
2x2(4 + x)
Trinomials, such as: x2 + 7x + 12
(x + 4) (x + 3)
And the difference of squares: x4 - 16
(x2 - 4) (x2 + 4)
Lastly, we look at factoring perfect square trinomials
such as: x2 + 10x + 25
3. Perfect Square Trinomials :
x2 + 10x + 25
A. What is a perfect square trinomial?
1. The first term is a perfect square
2. The third term is a perfect square
3. Multiply the square root of the 1st term coefficient
by the square root of the 3rd term coefficient. The 2nd
term should be twice this amount.
1 x 5 = 5; 2 x 5 = 10, the 2nd term coefficient.
