An experienced technologist in the financial industry, Keyvan Azami is based in New Jersey. Outside his professional life, Keyvan Azami contributes to many nonprofit organizations, including coaching a team at America Scores. America Scores helps low-income students by exposing them to both academic and athletic opportunities. Headquartered in New York City, America Scores utilizes two types of programs simultaneously to benefit its participants. First, students develop their coordination and teambuilding skills by playing soccer with other members. As of 2021, almost 1,000 coaches volunteer their time to teach these skills. Secondly, America Scores participants learn poetry. Doing so improves their writing skills and cultivates their creative sensibilities. It provides an outlet for self-expression that might not exist in a student’s life otherwise. When combined, the two halves of the America Scores program aim to turn the students into well-rounded individuals. As of 2021, during their more than 25-year history, they operate in a dozen cities across North America, and have served more than 130,000 students in total. They host more than 450 soccer teams, and in 2020, assisted more than 13,000 poet-athletes.
