Executive summary
As a partial fulfillment of two years PGDM Program it is a requirement
for award of PGDM degree that we should go through a partial training for
5
eight weeks. So, in this regard, we the participants of PGDM get ourselves
attached to somewhere in the organization. Then either we choose for
ourselves, a problem research, which is to be solved during these eight weeks
training program or organization itself, give the problem for research. The
problem research is generally chosen taking into consideration the weakness
of the organization, so that finally when the findings of the research come out
through researcher, it helps the organization to take remedial action. As a
participant of PGDM having marketing specialization, I joined Kansai Nerolac
Paints Ltd., where I was assigned to estimate of market potential for Nerolac
Paints Product with particular reference to Kansai Nerolac Paints Ltd.,
Cuttack; I did my eight weeks Summer Training with full sincerity and
devotion. To complete such a study required grasp information from the
market. I have conducted a detailed market survey in the city of Cuttack, I had
gone through several residential area and collected information regarding the
Premium emulsion specially about Excel emulsion. The aim of the survey was
to get through information regarding the product being in the market and as
per that information how a newly and competitive product can be launched.
The major objective of my study was to find out the Dealers‟ /Contractors‟
perception of fresher and walked out from Nerolac Paints. This survey is
conducted to depict the market potential of the Dealer /Contractor /Builder in
making investment. The study was based on primary data. In this context some
of the major findings are stated below:
The inflow under the Nerolac is yet to overtake the inflows in other paint
company due to the low key investor awareness,. Low profit, Market
Creditability, supply of goods and low margin rates make a deadly for the
dealers for whom paints market offer a route out of the impasse. The
investments in paints are not without risks because same forces such as frame
works, government policies, margin rate structures, performance of
companies, etc. that rattles the other construction market as well as paint
market too. The project analysis of the Cuttack market is shown very clear
picture that today Berger paints is the market leader of the Cuttack market for
better market creditability in comparison to other paint company. So if
Nerolac
Paints
want
to
shown their strong presence in Cuttack market. They should have better
creditability system, better supply of good, best financial transaction, high
margin growth. These are some factors which help to Nerolac paints in
making leader of the Cuttack market.

I want to point out a very important aspect of this training that is right from the
stage of formulating the research problem to the stage of report writing, my
6
knowledge specially as regards to marketing research, has undoubtedly
enhanced.
It is not a criticism rather than a humble approach of a student of Business
Management to look into the various problems and may have deficiencies
which have incurred due to my lack of technical knowledge.

Estimation of market potential

new business could prosper in one community, but fail in another. Analyzing
your market is an important step in deciding whether or not to start a new

This fact sheet discusses two method of the market analysis. These methods
draw upon secondary sources of data (for example census data and sales) and
help the potential retail focus on what size market is needed to support the

will guarantee the success of new business. However, the more information
you gather about the market, the better your chances for success.
Estimating market threshold
You can estimate the market for your product by analyzing the population
base that currently supports a particular retail outlet within a region. This
provides an average measure of the population base or trade area population
needed to support this type of retail store in place.

Conclusion & Recommendation
CONCLUSION
As it has been discussed, Today Paint Industry has a very high growth
potential in market. Post liberalization, the industry has been growing at a
rapid pace in terms of its assets under management. However, due to the low
key investor awareness, the inflow under the Nerolac is yet to overtake the
inflows in other paint company. Low profit, Market Creditability, supply
of goods and low margin rates make a deadly for the dealers for whom paints
market offer a route out of the impasse. The investments in paints are not
without risks because same forces such as frame works, government policies,
margin rate structures, performance of companies, etc. that rattles the other
construction market as well as paint market too. The project analysis of the
Cuttack market is shown very clear picture that today Berger paints is the
market leader of the Cuttack market for better market creditability in
comparison to other paint company. So if Nerolac Paints want to shown their
strong presence in Cuttack market. They should have better creditability
system, better supply of good, best financial transaction, high margin growth.
These are some factor which help to Nerolac paints in making leader of the
Cuttack market.
It is the gospel of today's business. So, the study conducted by the researchers
is so vital to the company as well as to the researcher to understand the
problem and prospects of existing product in the existing market. From the
analysis I found the following conclusion.
The most important thing is to strengthen the chain of management.

Since Brand cast media found out to be the most important source
of information therefore nerolac should concentrate its promotional
activities towards television advertisement.

30
There is need to increase the sub dealers which could be done by
motivating the probable consumer with competitive price, schemes etc.

When the researcher asked which source of advertisement is more
effective,70% said TV and Radio, 20% said poster or hoarding, 10%
said company representative.

Recommendation
Company‟s Representative should go in every sector of the market to
demonstrate their products & convince them by making them aware about the
products price &quality according the socio -economic & environmental
factors.
Company should promote the advertisement.
Company should take feedback from customers to analyze the quality
of products and to judge the satisfaction level of customers.
Company should enter in ruler areas.
Company should try to pay attention on after sale service.

Painting tips
Painting is definitely one of the least expensive ways to give the interior or exterior of
your home a face-lift. However, painting your own house can be a tremendous chore
that frequently ends in frustration. Here are some tips to help you do the best paint job
possible.

Use the Right Type of Paint
The place to start; of course, is in choosing what tools and what paint to use. Cheaper
paint will give you cheaper results. Period. The higher-quality paints are more durable
and offer better coverage. This doesn't mean the "big name" paint companies are
necessarily better; what you want to look for are middle and high grade paints because
these contain more pigments and resins as well as less water. Higher grade paints are
easier to touch up and take cleaning well. You will also want to consider the kind of
job you are doing. Interiors and exteriors have different needs, although there are
acceptable water-based paints for both. Water-based (latex) offers an easier clean-up,
less odor and is more environmentally friendly; however, oil-based paints are often
considered superior in durability and performance. With modern advances in paint
technology, however, this is not necessarily true.
Interior Paints
when painting an interior room, choose your paint type by the amount and kind of use

The room receives.
Enamel paints are sturdier and less likely to be damaged by frequent cleaning.
High traffic areas should definitely be painted with an enamel color as they
63
will likely be more apt to get dinged or need to be washed. Enamels come in a
variety of finishes: high gloss, semi-gloss, satin or eggshell.
A flat finish can be quite durable in an acrylic, but should be reserved for
locations that may not need as much cleaning
Exterior Paints
Exterior paint tends to come in water-based due to environmental regulations.
However, while in the past these types of paints did not offer the same quality and
durability, most paint companies offer formulators in a range of acrylic, water-based
resins that have similar performance as oil-based paints. The added benefit is that
water-based paints are always easier to clean up after and have very low odor.
Consult with a paint specialist about the different features of the exterior paints, but
be wary of the phrase "never paint again." Especially with exterior paint, you will
have to paint again, but the quality and type of paint can impact how soon it will be
before you have to repaint.
Tips for Painting
Before beginning, make sure you have thoroughly mixed your paint; otherwise you
may get streaked and uneven color. In order to prevent your paint from drying, pour
only the amount you intend to you in an hour or so into a roller tray or smaller
container and cover your larger supply of paint. Cover all surfaces with a drop cloth
or newspaper (be sure to secure the seams together to prevent leaks) and tape your
woodwork.
Choosing the Right Brushes and Rollers
Make sure you have brushes and rollers that match the kind of paint you plan to use
and the kind of painting job you are facing. Natural bristle brushes should never be
used with latex paint, but a synthetic brush or roller will be fine for latex or oil-based
paint.
When choosing your tools, make sure the brush is half again as long as it is wide, and
that the bristles are slightly longer toward the middle for smoother coverage. The
bristles themselves should be split on the ends and be very flexible - otherwise you
will get a spotty, uneven coverage, which will result in using more paint and dirtier
walls.
Smaller brushes are for cutting in work and finer work, and will waste paint, time and
leave ridges on larger jobs. A brush that is too big will make cutting in your corners
and painting along woodwork much more difficult. With rollers, a shorter nap is
suitable for rougher texture, while a longer nap is best for smooth walls. Make sure
64
your roller rebounds when squeezed and there are no visible seams.
If you have pipes or other unusual outcroppings, you can find specialized rollers to
help with these. Pipe rollers come with ridges to help ensure a smooth, even coverage,
and woodwork sponges are excellent for keeping the woodwork paint where it
belongs. Look for varieties with good sponginess and no loose fibers that are in the
correct size

Then either we choose for ourselves, a problem research, which is to be solved during these eight weeks training program or organization itself, give the problem for research. The problem research is generally chosen taking into consideration the weakness of the organization, so that finally when the findings of the research come out through researcher, it helps the organization to take remedial action. As a participant of PGDM having marketing specialization, I joined Kansai Nerolac Paints Ltd., where I was assigned to estimate of market potential for Nerolac Paints Product with particular reference to Kansai Nerolac Paints Ltd., Cuttack; I did my eight weeks Summer Training with full sincerity and devotion. To complete such a study required grasp information from the market. I have conducted a detailed market survey in the city of Cuttack, I had gone through several residential area and collected information regarding the Premium emulsion specially about Excel emulsion. The aim of the survey was to get through information regarding the product being in the market and as per that information how a newly and competitive product can be launched. The major objective of my study was to find out the Dealers‟ /Contractors‟ perception of fresher and walked out from Nerolac Paints. This survey is conducted to depict the market potential of the Dealer /Contractor /Builder in making investment. The study was based on primary data. In this context some of the major findings are stated below: The inflow under the Nerolac is yet to overtake the inflows in other paint company due to the low key investor awareness,. Low profit, Market Creditability, supply of goods and low margin rates make a deadly for the dealers for whom paints market offer a route out of the impasse. The investments in paints are not without risks because same forces such as frame works, government policies, margin rate structures, performance of companies, etc. that rattles the other construction market as well as paint market too. The project analysis of the Cuttack market is shown very clear picture that today Berger paints is the market leader of the Cuttack market for better market creditability in comparison to other paint company. So if Nerolac Paints want to shown their strong presence in Cuttack market. They should have better creditability system, better supply of good, best financial transaction, high margin growth. These are some factors which help to Nerolac paints in making leader of the Cuttack market. I want to point out a very important aspect of this training that is right from the stage of formulating the research problem to the stage of report writing, my 6

It is not a criticism rather than a humble approach of a student of Business Management to look into the various problems and may have deficiencies which have incurred due to my lack of technical knowledge. • 30. Chapter – 5 Conclusion & Recommendation CONCLUSION As it has been discussed, Today Paint Industry has a very high growth potential in market. Post liberalization, the industry has been growing at a rapid pace in terms of its assets under management. However, due to the low key investor awareness, the inflow under the Nerolac is yet to overtake the inflows in other paint company. These are some factor which help to Nerolac paints in making leader of the Cuttack market. It is the gospel of today's business. So, the study conducted by the researchers is so vital to the company as well as to the researcher to understand the problem and prospects of existing product in the existing market. From the analysis I found the following conclusion. The most important thing is to strengthen the chain of management. Since Brand cast media found out to be the most important source of information therefore nerolac should concentrate its promotional activities towards television advertisement. 30
  • 31. There is need to increase the sub dealers which could be done by motivating the probable consumer with competitive price, schemes etc. When the researcher asked which source of advertisement is more effective,70% said TV and Radio, 20% said poster or hoarding, 10% said company representative. Recommendation Company‟s Representative should go in every sector of the market to demonstrate their products & convince them by making them aware about the products price &quality according the socio -economic & environmental factors. Company should promote the advertisement. Company should take feedback from customers to analyze the quality of products and to judge the satisfaction level of customers. Company should enter in ruler areas. Company should try to pay attention on after sale service. 31

Painting tips Painting is definitely one of the least expensive ways to give the interior or exterior of your home a face-lift. However, painting your own house can be a tremendous chore that frequently ends in frustration. Here are some tips to help you do the best paint job possible. Use the Right Type of Paint The place to start; of course, is in choosing what tools and what paint to use. Cheaper paint will give you cheaper results. Period. The higher-quality paints are more durable and offer better coverage. This doesn't mean the "big name" paint companies are necessarily better; what you want to look for are middle and high grade paints because these contain more pigments and resins as well as less water. Higher grade paints are easier to touch up and take cleaning well. You will also want to consider the kind of job you are doing. Interiors and exteriors have different needs, although there are acceptable water-based paints for both. Water-based (latex) offers an easier clean-up, less odor and is more environmentally friendly; however, oil-based paints are often considered superior in durability and performance. With modern advances in paint technology, however, this is not necessarily true. Interior Paints when painting an interior room, choose your paint type by the amount and kind of use The room receives. Enamel paints are sturdier and less likely to be damaged by frequent cleaning. High traffic areas should definitely be painted with an enamel color as they 63

A flat finish can be quite durable in an acrylic, but should be reserved for locations that may not need as much cleaning Exterior Paints Exterior paint tends to come in water-based due to environmental regulations. However, while in the past these types of paints did not offer the same quality and durability, most paint companies offer formulators in a range of acrylic, water-based resins that have similar performance as oil-based paints. The added benefit is that water-based paints are always easier to clean up after and have very low odor. Consult with a paint specialist about the different features of the exterior paints, but be wary of the phrase "never paint again." Especially with exterior paint, you will have to paint again, but the quality and type of paint can impact how soon it will be before you have to repaint. Tips for Painting Before beginning, make sure you have thoroughly mixed your paint; otherwise you may get streaked and uneven color. In order to prevent your paint from drying, pour only the amount you intend to you in an hour or so into a roller tray or smaller container and cover your larger supply of paint. Cover all surfaces with a drop cloth or newspaper (be sure to secure the seams together to prevent leaks) and tape your woodwork. Choosing the Right Brushes and Rollers Make sure you have brushes and rollers that match the kind of paint you plan to use and the kind of painting job you are facing. Natural bristle brushes should never be used with latex paint, but a synthetic brush or roller will be fine for latex or oil-based paint. When choosing your tools, make sure the brush is half again as long as it is wide, and that the bristles are slightly longer toward the middle for smoother coverage. The bristles themselves should be split on the ends and be very flexible - otherwise you will get a spotty, uneven coverage, which will result in using more paint and dirtier walls. Smaller brushes are for cutting in work and finer work, and will waste paint, time and leave ridges on larger jobs. A brush that is too big will make cutting in your corners and painting along woodwork much more difficult. With rollers, a shorter nap is suitable for rougher texture, while a longer nap is best for smooth walls. Make sure 64
  • 65. your roller rebounds when squeezed and there are no visible seams. If you have pipes or other unusual outcroppings, you can find specialized rollers to help with these. Pipe rollers come with ridges to help ensure a smooth, even coverage, and woodwork sponges are excellent for keeping the woodwork paint where it belongs. Look for varieties with good sponginess and no loose fibers that are in the correct size (d) Competitors of the Organization Kansai Nerolac Paints Ltd. is a Company of 1320 crore turnover.
