- 2. While many personalised registrations are affordable luxury items, some are really rather expensive – perhaps even more costly than a new car! Here are six of the country’s most expensive registrations… INTRODUCTION
- 3. 25 O The priciest plate sold by the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency was 25 O, fetching a cool £400,000 in 2014 (£518,000 after VAT and buyer’s premium!). The proud owner, Mr John Collins, clearly thought it was perfect for his Ferrari 250.
- 4. F 1 F1 was purchased by entrepreneur Afzal Khan in 2008 for a princely sum of £440,625. The owner, who assigned it to his Mercedes SLR McLaren, later turned down an offer of £6 million! It is currently advertised for sale with some companies for over 12 million!
- 5. S 1 S1 is believed to be Scotland’s first number plate, which goes some way towards explaining its Skye-high price of £397,500 in 2008. The new owner declared it would be going on an old red Skoda!
- 6. VIP 1 The VIP 1 model was sold at a price of £285,000 and is owned by the Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich, the owner of Chelsea FC. It was initially intended to be placed on the Popemobile for John Paul II’s visit to Ireland but it was finally snapped up by Roman Abramovich in 2006.
- 7. 1 RH This registration was bought at auction by Robert Harverson in 2006 for £250,000 – almost 30 times more than its original price! It is currently assigned to a Mercedes SL63 sports car.
- 8. 1 0 This minimalistic plate was purchased in Northamptonshire in 2009 and had a price tag of £210,000. This plate really proved the fact that “less is indeed more.”
