Patriot Vs. Loyalist
In groups of three students will create a Venn Diagram comparing and
contrasting the beliefs and battle tactics of Loyalists and Patriots.

-Guerilla fighting tactics.
-rocks, trees and rifles” style of fighting.
-Hiding behind trees and in foliage, shooting at
British as they passed through caught British troops
off guard.
-Americans rejected the authority of Parliament
to tax them without elected representation.
-Believed all men are created equal.
-Government should be responsible to the will of
the people.
Loyalist

-Remained loyal to the British Empire and the British
monarchy during the Revolutionary War.
-Felt that rebellion against the Crown was morally wrong.
-They felt that being a part of the British Empire was crucial
in terms of commerce and military protection.
-Linear European style battle tactics
-British fighting style was rigid and
traditional.
-Bright red formal uniforms made the
Redcoats easy targets for the Patriots who
were more familiar with the landscape.
Both
-Loyalists were really of the same origins, speaking culturally and racially, as the
Patriots.
-Both believed in the rule of law.
-The right of white male property owners to have some say in their
governments.
-Both groups believed they had God on their side.
