The document discusses a magazine cover featuring actress Rachel McAdams. It summarizes that the cover promotes both McAdams and her 2004 film "The Notebook." It analyzes design elements of the magazine cover that portray McAdams as a rising celebrity and reinforce themes from "The Notebook," helping to advertise the film to the magazine's readership.
2. During my exploration of finding magazines
whereby the protagonist from ‘The Notebook’,
Rachel McAdams promotes her latest film, I came
across many magazine covers where she does not
immediately promote the film.
Yet, during the year in which the film was
released, she featured on magazine covers, which
reflects that due to this particular film release, has
promoted her as an actress.
This shows that because of the 2004-2005 release
of ‘The Notebook’ her career took a turn for the
best and quoted by Chicago tribune her ‘rise to
fame’. She was then about and advertised in
many magazines, and to be later casted for many
other films.

The New York Times praised the "spontaneous and combustible"
performances of the two leads[43] while Roger Ebert of the Chicago Sun-
Times was won over by the "beauty and clarity" of McAdams's
performance.[44] The Chicago Tribune declared her "a real discovery" who
"infuses young Allie with that radiant, breathlessly winning ingénue grace
and charm that breaks hearts"
3. It could be interpreted that by featuring on magazines
such as ‘Bride Allure’ Rachel McAdams is promoting ‘The
Notebook’ as it aims at young women, a common
audience for films within the Dramatic Romantic genre.
By her featuring to an audience within this magazine,
could intrigue the viewer to the actress herself, and be
interested in films she has participated in.
Within this particular magazine, Rachel McAdams is
been focalised as a beautiful image. Promoting makeup,
hair styles, and her own stories relating to the topic of
the magazine. Within ‘The Notebook’ she is seen as the
female protagonist, and in an elegant and subtle
manner, a desirable women to an audience of men. Yet
due to the genre of the film not particularly aimed at
men, by the magazine promoting her as this reinforced
image of beauty could be widening the audience range
for ‘The Notebook’ to the male gender.
4. The Main Image
By Rachel McAdams being the focal point of this
magazine states that she is a rising celebrity and
gaining a larger celebrity status as there is no
other celebrities or features on the cover.
However, due to the magazine being for Brides,
and aimed at the general public without gossip
and other typical magazine themes shows that she
is like other, normal women.
By her wearing minimal makeup, with a white top,
in regards of her possibly advertising ‘The
Notebook’ could reflect that it carries themes of
normal relationships. And the purity and
innocence the film entails, with the likability of her
character, all of which portrayed through her
‘normal’ created look on the cover of this
particular magazine.
5. The title of this magazine features multiple
paradigms. Firstly, the large, bold, italic font allows
the title to stand out, and act as a vehicle to
immediately state its target audience. Through the
size of the font, portrays the context of the
magazine, being pictures of big weddings targeting
to those who want this same outcome of big
everything, e.g. a big wedding, big hair styles etc..
By the use of the colour pink, again allows it to
stand out in contrast to the white background. But
also aims to the female buyer by the use of the
typical feminine, elegant colour.
By the use of differing fonts in words ‘Bride’ and
‘Allure’ represents that even though the magazine
relates to only women, by both being in pink, they
can relate to various types of women. The ‘Bride’
being perfect and in one colour, font and style,
aiming to those who want things neat and perfect.
Whereas also aiming to those who would like a
lower key wedding, subtler and more traditional
perhaps, all of which portrayed through the ‘allure’.
6. Cover Line
The cover lines are featured down the right hand
side of magazine covers and in this particular
magazine cover features the name of the main
image and focal point of the cover.
Where Rachel McAdams is advertised within this
magazine, she is referred and known by the reader
as the actress of the ‘The Notebook’. By the film
being released in the same year of this magazine
cover allows the reader to alline the actress with her
character simultaneously, and advertises The
Notebook through her interview within this
magazine. To those who have not yet seen ‘The
Notebook’ reading this magazine, shall see the
actress as herself in an interview, and by this be
influenced to watch the film.
Therefore, by the mere two words before her
names, states who she is, where she is known from,
and advertises her recently released film; ‘The
Notebook’.
